Rafter S Gunleather Review

Recommended Posts

Well after a very long and confusing wait, my Rafter S OWB holster arrived. I hope my experience was an anomally and from other reviews I think it is, but I gotta give a big thumbs down on customer service.:D

Before i get to that, let's talk leather, or in this case elephant skin! I ordered an Elephant skin with an alligator band to go with my FN Hi-Power. It is absolutely beautiful. You can get the skins in a variety of dies at no additional cost.

Workmanship is right up there with the others I have seen. The quality is also very good.

I don't have a lot of experience with custom holsters, but my K&D fit very nicely. This one is VERY snug, almost like it is too small. i am going to do all the stretching stuff and see how that goes.

The other thing I like about the Rafter S OWB is that it is a high ride. It should conceal very easily.

I'll add some more pics later, but here is a start.

As far as customer service goes, let's just say communication was poor (i'm being nice) and it took waaaaaay longer than quoted. In fairness some of that was my fault as I canceled it twice and then put it back online. However, that was mainly due to communication errors and what seemed to be disorganization on their part. But everyone else I know has had a different experience than me, so all in all now that I have my hands on one, I wouldn't hesitate ordering another someday.:D

My experience with Rafter service has been very good. However, the design leaves something to be desired for large pistols like a 1911. The one I have for a Glock 19 and Smith 3913 are spot on for comfort and concealibility. If the belt slots were just a half inch higher, the design would be O.K. for all steel 1911s.

I don't think much of their belts. They are too thick and get soft in a short time. Still, good folks to deal with.

By the way, you have a very good looking holster there. Did you consider the option for a sweat shield?
