I was digging through boxes recently and found an old knife. It was probably my first real knife as it is my Cub Scout knife. I think I got it somewhere around age 6 or 7.

When I found it in a box it was completely rusted over and stuck closed. All the brass was green with oxidation. I unfortunately forgot to take some before photos to show how bad it really was. There really was not much I could do with it so I soaked it an rust dissolver to get rid of what I could. I then ran it through a low pressure glass media blaster. The finish turned out rather nice. Not shiny and polished like a new knife but rather interesting. I put a new edge on it and am now putting it in my pocket every morning.

Not to bad of a resto job if I say so myself.

I still have a scar on my Thumb from that blade. It was the result of one of my first whittling experiments back at about age 7 or 8. Yes it has some memories attached.

Great story. Good to see a childhood memento still operational. Brings a tear to my eye.

I wish I hadn't sold that Swiss Army knife.

You lucky so-n-so. If we'd known then what the memories would be worth now... wish I could find my old cub scout knife. The resto looks good, I'm sure you could put a high polish back on it, but the glass bead blast looks pretty good as-is. You can tell this isn't some johnny-come-lately; this blade has experience!
