Most of what you hear about is getting stranded in your car without food & water for a day or 2.   Assuming you have a carry gun anyway, I would keep it small & light with ...

first aid kit, one of the better "glove compartment" types.

skin bonding superglue, because most first aid kits do not have it and I would much, much, much rather glue up a serious cut than try my hand at stitches.  It works great.

food and water.

a box of ammo for your carry gun.

an old cell phone that can be used to call 911 and a car power charger/supply for it.  It does not need a working contract, all phones can dial 911 as I understand it (?).

A tarp.  You can make a tent, or wrap up in it for warmth, or make a raincoat, or many other things.

A flashlight and unopened batterys that you replace at least yearly.

possibly, a GPS so you can tell 911 where you are exactly.

A good book.

IMHO--EDC needs to be on your person. A larger gun would be ideal for a go-bag.....unless your one of these guys that can conceal a G17 all day every day.

well not a 17. i have a 27 though that i carry
