Senate panel balks at federal gun enforcement ban

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Senate Judiciary Committee has narrowly decided to delay voting on a bill seeking to ban the federal enforcement of firearms laws in Tennessee in order to ask for an opinion from the state's attorney general about whether it would be constitutional.

Republican Sen. Mae Beavers of Mt. Juliet told the committee on Tuesday her bill would make it a felony for federal agents to enforce gun laws she considers unconstitutional.

Fellow Republican Judiciary Chairman Brian Kelsey of Germantown asked for the delay to determine whether the state has the power to nullify federal laws. The vote was 5-4 to await the opinion from Attorney General Bob Cooper by next week.

A similar measure sponsored by Rep. Joe Carr of Murfreesboro has yet to be scheduled for a House hearing.

I got a reply from Kelsey about the bill the other day and he seems to be for it so I'll wait and see what his reasoning is. He should have let it go on through, but maybe he knows something we don't.

He is not for it and frankly, seems to be trying to kill it.

Further, based on his "teaching moment" a day or so ago when he schooled the "less intelligent" about the supremacy clause I'd say he is a condescending idiot who needs to be replaced and believes that the supremacy clause trumps the Bill of Rights.
