Any 7.62x54r Reloaders?

Recommended Posts

I guess that's a silly question, I'm sure some of you are. I'm not real hip on rifle powders and was wondering what folk's favorite brews are. Even though I have a press, I'm thinking about the Lee whack-a-mole kit. I wouldn't want to pound out a 1000 handgun rounds with it. But for the relatively few rifle round I would make, it seems like neat all-in-one idea.

I used one back in '72 thru '74. They work. You get a little cup measure but you need to confirm it's the right measuring device for the type of powder used or you might have some high pressure. In others words, if the recipe calls for 30 grains and you scoop up a full cup it needs to measure 30 grains not 40 for a given size bullet. Keep the base clean of any foriegn matter, too. The last steps includes stuffing a primed, powder filled case into a holder (read chamber) then placing that on top of the base. Then you place the bullet on top of the case, stick the seater on top of that and give it a wack. The final seating wack always bothered me but it worked. I was always waiting for the day it would go bang but it didn't.

Personally I didn;t know anyone who reloaded for those nagants. The ammo was always so cheap no one bothered.

Hope this helps

If you already have a press, there's very little difference in cost (< $3 at Midway) between a Lee Loader and a set of Lee dies.

I haven't loaded any yet (got the stuff if necessary), but based on reloading book(s) BL-C(2) looks like a good candidate.

I've done a bit of reloading for the x54r and use Lee dies with cast bullets.  I have used H335 but currently using Trail Boss with the cast.  I bought a set of dies a number of years ago.
