  1. I played a gig in Wichita Falls, TX in '83 or 84. I was truly shocked how badly everyone treated the soldiers from Sheppard Air force.  The cliub owners were jerks to musicians too but not as bad as if we had been USAF.
  2. I had one of these, had to make a choice between this and my micro-compact 1911 or I would still have it.  I recommend a talon grip tape.  These things are little concealable powerhouses.
  3. the difference is how the attorney may twist the facts against you if you were ever forced to use either, just sayin
  4. a lot of these places do go the low tech low cost route of using opendns as a filter, if so you can use google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4 4) or another fast 4.2.2.2 & 4.2.2.3 as your Dns in network settings.
  5. one of the better new shows IMHO
  6. Well, I really really like my Caracal. I did return the first for a refund and now have amended my recall / replace for my QS to refund.  Every time I have called Caracal when I can get through they have been courteous and helpful.  I was told my second refund box was shipped today.  I hadn't shot my caracal since the recall in October but did take it to the range last week. It shoots so sweet, I had forgotten how much I like it, it will be missed.
  7. This will surely stir things up considering the source but still, after seeing this and having a good friend whose caracal slide locked back for no apparent reason I'm sending my remaining Caracal back for the refund too.    the good stuff starts at msg # 109   http://www.pakguns.com/showthread.php?10862-Catastrophic-Failure-ALL-CARACAL-OWNERS-PLEASE-READ-AND-BE-SAFE
  8. I had one for a while, nice little compact striker fired .45.  It left some serious indentations in my hand before I put the talon grip on it. The 7 round mags do extend the grip a bit as do the pearce +0 pinky plate for the 5 round mag.
  9. What about the Marlin XL7 ? They seem to be affordable and with a wood stock added have some weight.
  10. I like the caney below the dam or Lancaster or Betty's.  Take a 4wt out and lose track of time.  I've never tried the Elk, heard good things about it.  Our farrier keeps threatening to take me out smallie fishing on the Harpeth.
  11. Yes, well put. I feel like I gave them the chance when I got the WalMart-esque answer "Its Store Policy"
  12. Well, I appreciate and respect your advice, perhaps you are correct, thank you. I was shocked and not ready for this invasion of my personal information. There was no assumption, they DID scan my DL WITHOUT informing me.    The gentleman was not "Huffy" at all, nor was e forthcoming regarding his actions or the reasoning behind it or responsive to my inquiry.
  13. Like I said   Like I said but when I asked why,  I was told "Store Policy, we have had some situations" , the tone of this answer did not indicate any further dialog was welcome.
  14. I'm surrounded by helicopters and see the glint of blue helmets off in the woods, time to r
  15. I had well over $600 cash and a .45 concealed on my hip, the last thing I was looking for was any kind of altercation, the first thing I was looking for when the shotgun caught my eye was a sub-compact 9mm.    As far as the car analogy, you are driving a car, there is a huge liability there and you must be licensed to drive any car, theirs or yours.
  16. Wow, I stirred up a storm here. Here is my reasoning in a nutshell:   Holding my DL while I look at a gun as insurance =  No Problem.    Scanning the information off my DL without my permission and storing it while I look at a gun = invasion of expected privacy   Then again he may have just been scanning to ensure its validity but I already had the gun in my hands.  I should have pressed for more information after the brief explanation "Store Policy, we have had some situations"
  17. I ran through the first part of that yesterday, it had most of the basic info but was missing some data, I may try a higher resolution scan just for kicks, 4800dpi.
  18. When a phone number or email address is "asked" for its is possible to politely decline.   When I asked to see the firearm, the person behind the counter (owner I believe) said "I need to see your drivers license" I assumed he meant "see" not electronically harvest my info...
  19.   Good point, lesson learned, as well as a few others. However I didn't write the serial number of the gun down and take it with me either. :)
  20. I expect them to inform me if they are harvesting my name address DOB DL # eye color and other info and placing it in their own computer system without my specific consent. I have looked at many guns at many gun stores and never had to give them my person information up front, especially gathered my information without informing me what they were doing, only when a purchase is made.
  21. That makes sense, I'd be paranoid too if I had three attempted break ins. However, scrutinizing your customers after a break in doesn't make sense, it just alienates your customers.
  22. well I guess I'm well preserved for a 50 year old if they thought I was that young ;)
  23. It was a barcode scanner next to his POS computer / cash register.  I agree with monkeyman's statement and that's why I didn't mind him holding it but to scan it is above and beyond anything reasonable.   I didn't want to be a <insert anatomical reference here> so I just left and am letting the community know about my experience.   Not only no other customers but quite a few guns in the cases, a couple of 1911s,  Glocks, a few Taurus and quite a few EAA.
