Taking wife to the range for the first time.. tips?
PackinMama replied to TNTitan's topic in Women's Perspectives
That's awesome! Congrats! Just tell her to keep it on her body and out of her purse! Seriously, the holiday season is coming up and that's when the purse snatchers really start coming out of the woodwork. I have a feeling that with the economy the way it is, this year's going to be one of the worst for thievery. -
I'm extremely sorry for your and your family's loss. I have dealt with a similar situation in the past.....late 1995 to be exact. My home burned down and the only thing that saved me was my smoke alarms. The fire happened in the middle of the night around 2:30 a.m. and my smoke alarms woke me up. Which, by the way, the batteries had been dead in for a couple months and I had just replaced them about a week or two before the fire. My home was filled with heavy black smoke and the entire kitchen/living room area was ablaze. The only thing I had time to do was get out the door. I lost everything I owned, including two dogs, my cockatiel, and six guns. One gun was a Winchester model 94 .22 lever action that my dad taught me how to shoot with at four years old. Another was a Colt Woodsman (early 40's in mint condition) that my dad had also given me. The others were newer and had no sentimental value, so they were tossed. I saved the remains of those two guns for several years thinking I might eventually try to have them restored. My brother wound up taking the Woodsman frame to attempt to restore.....he said it was a lost cause. So I then threw the Winchester away. After seeing guns that went through a fire.....I don't think that they could ever be restored. Yours may be different since they were in a safe though. Mine were not. I hope that you can restore yours. I'd ask around, talk to some gunsmiths, and see what they say. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my prayers. To everyone on this forum: If you don't have at least a couple smoke alarms in your home, please go out today and get some. I would not be here typing this if it were not for a smoke alarm.

No, you don't. Trust me. We're all better off now.

My Colt King Cobra 4" in satin stainless that I bought new in '96 for $450 from Leo's Gun Shop in Morristown. (Heck, I miss Leo almost as much as I do that gun! He was a good guy and always treated me right.) It now belongs to a fellow TGO member that traded me his custom Yugo AK-47 for it.....which I sold to buy my Springfield Armory EMP. I'm keepin' the EMP!

Absolutely Gorgeous Gun!!! That's one to be proud of for sure. I have my dads old Colt .357 mag stainless revolver that he used in the 70's and 80's while he worked as an armed security gaurd in Chicago. I've always thought it was a Trooper....but all the Troopers I see actually say "Trooper" on the barrel. This one just says .357 magnum ctg., Colt, etc., but no model name. Someone on another forum dated it back to the mid to late 60's by it's serial #, and thought it was a Trooper.....but then wasn't sure when I told them it didn't say Trooper anywhere on it. I can tell you that of all the revolvers I've ever shot, including a Colt King Cobra that I used to have which was purchased new in '96.......this old Colt has the smoothest action and trigger of any of them by far. It's like running a hot knife through butter! I just wish I knew what model it is. I bet your Diamondback shoots like a dream! How can you help yourself from not shooting it?!

FFL is Federal Firearms License....transfering a gun to an FFL just means transferring it to a person/shop that has a Federal Firearms License. Now "FLF" I'm not quite sure about..... But as long as your a TN resident and you're shipping to another TN resident, you can ship it directly to them, following the methods I stated above. You don't have to go through a FFL to ship unless you're shipping to someone in another state. Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer or expert on the law by any means......make sure you ask UPS (for handguns and long guns) or the USPS (for long guns only) yourself about their rules concerning shipping firearms.
-
Please research this yourself by checking out the USPS and UPS websites, but here is what I found out: You can legally ship a long gun to anyone's private residence within the state of TN via the USPS or UPS ground. You just have to declare what it is. With handguns, same thing but you have to ship it via UPS Air and declare what it is. With either one, I would also insure it to cya. I've shipped a handgun using UPS Air to a private residence before, no problem. But....I also emailed them a copy of the form that TGO David mentioned and had them fill out their part and email it back to me along with a copy of their DL. That's not required, but better safe than sorry.

The Spikey - Non firearm defense tool
PackinMama replied to Trekbike's topic in Women's Perspectives
Oh, I don't know.....looks like it could definitely poke someone's eye out! I wouldn't want to be hit in the face with it. Now if they could just incorporate a stun gun into that design....so that when you hit it would also ZAP....that would make it AWESOME! I think the design is meant to cause as much pain as possible without a lot of force behind the hit. Most women don't have near as much physical strength as a man. Brass knuckles are nice if you have some good solid force behind them......but I really think this design would be better for women than brass knuckles. Of course we all know that a gun would be best, but anyplace where carrying a gun is not allowed, having this in your hand would be better than nothing. Personally, I'd rather have some good pepper spray and a collapsible baton if I can't have my gun. Thanks for posting Trekbike! -
Just for entertainment value right?! Dang! That is one ugly gun!!!

I think I was one of the last people to get an order in before Kevin shut the site down. I placed my order for a Thunderbird Defender for my EMP on 7-20, and with the estimated 14-16 week turnaround time, I should have it sometime in early to mid November. I originally ordered brown, but then had Kevin change it to black when I found a great deal on some black leather mag pouches and a black belt. I can't wait to get it!

I will PIF a Glock Speed Loader for the larger caliber Glocks.....I think it'll fit .45's & 10mm's. First pm gets it. I also have a paperback book entitled "Marine Sniper" for grabs. The cover says, "The explosive real true story of a vietnam hero - 93 confirmed kills" by Charles Henderson. First pm gets it.

You mean your mom or dad never gave you an AR? Man, you were neglected!
-
You and your family will be added to my prayer list. God Bless You.

I agree with Canebreaker. I'd say Rossi, Taurus, or S&W would be just about the same. I'd get the one you like the looks and especially feel of best. I have a Taurus 85 and an S&W 442.....both are lightweight .38 snubbies. The Taurus has an exposed hammer and the S&W has the shrouded hammer. If your planning to just carry it for self defense and not do a lot of target shooting, I'd get one with the shrouded hammer. It won't snag on your clothing and you can actually shoot it through your clothing if you have to.....like through your pocket or coat. A revolver with an exposed hammer can snag or hang up in these situations. Now if you want to do a lot of target shooting, I'd get one with an exposed hammer. That way, you can cock it for better accuracy and a nicer trigger pull. I got my mom some low recoil Federal Nyclad .38's for her snubby (shrouded hammer). They are nice if the recoil bothers you. My mom has arthritis in her hands and she is fairly weak, but I wanted her to have a decent caliber for self defense......so the low recoil loads work perfectly. Several different companies make low recoil loads in .38 special. Hope this helps. Good luck on your purchase! BTW, there's a great deal on an S&W 442 in the classifieds right now.
-
Sounds like you have a full plate.....but it also sounds like you are an extremely blessed man.
-
I'd like that collapsible stock if it's still available! Now that I have my first AR, I want to attempt (with my brother's help) to build one of my own. The one I build will be mine and I'll give the one I have right now to my son.

No kidding! You would think that everyone that teaches the permit classes would use the correct terminology.

9mm for Female, Small Hands, Suggestions Requested
PackinMama replied to StPatrick's topic in Handguns
Springfield Armory EMP or Kahr PM9 Or, since you don't want to be jealous , how about the new Taurus Slim Frame? I think taking her to a show and letting her handle a bunch of different guns is a great idea. I wouldn't rule out a revolver though. You can get a revolver in 9mm too....I believe Taurus makes one. I got my 79 year old mother an S&W 442 .38 and bought some Federal Nyclad Low Recoil ammo for it. She can shoot and handle it just fine and she's arthritic and only weighs about 110 lbs. Revolvers are the ultimate handgun for the inexperienced shooter that just wants a gun to keep beside the bed at night. You can't get any simpler...unless you go with a Glock!
