blackbeltchick, you're carrying the 1911 and the .410! That's just too cool! You know, we should meet in Morristown for coffee or lunch one day! We could talk about guns and maybe even go shooting sometime. I just have to wait until after August 24....that's when my little guy starts school!

Ok, time for the Pay it Forward part! Thanks to JHatmaker and Dralarms for their generosity! I have a like new Fobus Paddle Holster that I know for sure will fit a Glock 19, 23, 32, 26, 27, 33, and possibly others as well? First person to PM me with "I'll take it" gets it. Please include your name and address in the pm. ****Given to abailey362!****

Taking wife to the range for the first time.. tips?
PackinMama replied to TNTitan's topic in Women's Perspectives
Congrats TNTitan, and to Mrs.TNTitan! Sounds like you both had fun! It's always a pleasure to know another woman has taken on the responsibility of defending herself if the need arises! -
From what I've heard, Walmart won't be carrying Blazer anymore. I hope I heard wrong, because I love Blazer. It's good quality plinkin' ammo for those of us that don't reload.

Jhatmaker, I'll take the Glock mag loader if you still have it. I can always use an extra since I tend to misplace mine all the time!

Taking wife to the range for the first time.. tips?
PackinMama replied to TNTitan's topic in Women's Perspectives
Well, the guys have given you some great advice! I would suggest running down the safety basics before you go shooting.....and a BIG plus would be if you could find a good gun safety video that she could watch. Women definitely don't like being told what to do by their husbands/boyfriends, so the less instructing you actually do the better off you'll be. I'd try to start with a .22 and work your way up to the bigger calibers. Before you let her shoot, run down the basics of the gun....like the safety, mag/cylinder release, etc. Show her how to load it, you shoot the first mag/cylinder then let her have at it. Try to say as little as possible and just make sure she's handling the gun safely. Don't push her into a bigger caliber if she's not ready. Let her call the shots and you'll be a much happier man in the end! -
Those look pretty cool! Are they fairly lightweight? I'm wondering if they might work without a belt...just clipped onto my jeans or shorts? Also, do you know if he ever makes rigs for speedloaders or extra mags? Anyone else have any experience with these?

I got this email from Kevin this morning:
-
OS, who makes that holster in your avatar picture?

Wow. I just ordered and paid for my Thunderbird Defender for my EMP on 7-20. Looks like that was the day before he shut down the website. I sure hope that he's just shutting down for a while until he catches up on the orders. I was told it would be a 14-16 week wait.
-
Wow! That sounds like a great time! I haven't been up to anything near as interesting as that!
-
I know what you mean! I've been carrying for almost 15 years and I feel naked without my gun on me!

tnmom2amk, I was in a bit of a hurry when I posted a reply to your question today and I forgot to say, "Welcome to TGO!!!" Dizzielizzie had several great points in her post. I particularly liked and agree with this: Dizzie, you also said Go for it girl! I just ordered a fairly spendy IWB/OWB custom holster from K&D Holsters. Another member on here recommended them to me and I did a little research myself. They seem like they make some excellent quality stuff! I chose the Thuderbird Defender, which is convertible from IWB to OWB and it's IWB cant is adjustable, which I like a lot. Problem is there's a 14-16 week wait! I figure it will be my Christmas present to myself! Wow, I just looked at the K&D website and they're currently not taking any more orders! I guess I got my order in just in time!

I have the answer for you....a belly band. Get a 4" wide one, they're more comfy than the 5" or 6" versions. You can wear it in any position you like.....hips, waist, even above the waist....and you can have the gun at any position around the clock. These can be worn right against the skin, with any type of clothing. They usually have at least one extra pocket for a mag or two. Check on ebay...they usually have several different brands on there. Pro-tech outdoors is a good one and cheap too.

Wow! That is very cool! It's awesome that more women are choosing to "not be a victim!" Congrats on taking the class! Now it's time for the waiting game...... Absolutely!
-
LOL That's exactly what I was thinking when I read that!

Got a good link for that?

I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up yet......but I was told something interesting at the Morristown Walmart today. The lady behind the counter said that they would no longer be carrying any Blazer Brass ammo at Walmart. I asked if that was all Walmarts and she said "I think so." So has anyone else heard anything about Walmart not carrying Blazer Brass anymore?

I agree with the Wood Grip crowd. It's hard to beat Esmeralda's work......absolutely beautiful!!! Nothing looks better than wood IMO. Here's a pic of grips that were made by Esmeralda for my EMP, they're Cocobolo with a Celtic cross and Celtic checkering:

+1 Dizzielizzie! I'm one that has had my purse snatched.....with my gun in it. The police recovered my gun over a year ago (it was used in a shooting but no one was injured) but I still haven't gotten it back. Problem is that my insurance co. paid me for my losses (minus a $250 deductible) so if the police do return the gun, it actually now belongs to the insurance co. However, I was told by my agent that I would have the oppurtunity to buy it back if it was recovered.....but I haven't heard a word. When I contacted the detective (over a year ago) about the possibility of getting the gun back after it was no longer needed as evidence.....he was a jerk to me on the phone and said "in certain situations we never give the evidence back" and "didn't your insurance pay you for your loss?" I explained that the insurance had paid, but that I would be given the oppurtunity to buy it back from my ins. co. when they got it back. He was still a jerk and pretty much said they probably wouldn't be giving it back. I called my adjuster and told her......she said that she would call them herself.....but I've not heard anything from anyone. I don't think I'll ever see that gun again. So.....I'm definitely against purse carry....UNLESS you do exactly as dizzielizzie says.....get one that you carry across your body and NEVER SET IT DOWN! I would try to explore all the other options though before I decided to purse carry. I really feel that BELLY BANDS are the way to go for women that don't want to wear a belt. You can dress any way you like and combined with a nice lightweight gun, you'll forget it's there.

Yeah, I saw it too and not being familiar with the M&P's, I just thought it was part of the design. -

I always hear people say that a Glock doesn't point naturally......this is really strange to me because my Glocks point better naturally than my EMP does. I've been shooting Glocks for 20 years so maybe that has something to do with it......although they really always seemed to point naturally for me, even with my first gen. G17. I can draw and aim at something with my G23 or G27, hold it steady, then look though the sights and I'm always within 2-3" or less from POA. I tried this with my EMP when I first got it and I was like 6-8" off......I am getting better on the EMP now though.

I agree with Cruel Hand Luke and Gunsablazin. Most of us are not equipped to give a person of questionable ability, strength, fighting experience, and weapon posession a "beat down." Good Steward, That is pretty cool about "Lucky." I seriously would never have imagined an attack trained boxer. That would actually give you, or your wife and kids a major advantage if he had to go on attack.....no BG would ever expect it!
