Thinking about taking the plunge....
samson7x replied to a topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
The new version is the IID (D stands for disassemble) and I believe the only difference is that it is now user serviceable, but someone correct me if Im wrong. I am currently waiting on my paperwork for a IID so I can give more insight in about 3mo when I get it, haha. -
Look at what Tim Calhoun gunsmithing did to my M & P!

Latest Class III: Guesses on Wait Time

How is the TiRant? Im waiting on one in .45 also...should be here by Sept. What is your host weapon? -
I found this browsing another forum and thought you guys might be interested to hear what these guys are doing. I personally had no idea the ASA existed. Forgive me if it has been posted before.

I used a YHM A3 upper on my 300blk build and the quality and fit is good with the DPMS lower that I used. However, the finish is slightly different than that particular lower so it doesn't look as uniform as I would have liked. I don't doubt that it would match perfectly with a YHM lower though. I'll try to post pictures later today.

Ok, thanks. Thanks, I'll check into AA5 Any other suggestions?

Can anyone recommend a good subsonic powder? To the OP: Apologies for the thread jack. If you are offended I will start a new thread.
-
Will you be using H110 for supersonic and subsonic loads? It seems like I read somewhere that H110 wasn't a subsonic-friendly powder? I could be wrong. I probably read it on 300blktalk.com.

There are definitely 1911's that are better made than Kimbers but my plain stainless II with 5" barrel is the most accurate handgun I've owned. I did do some trigger work to it and a clean, crisp, light trigger has a lot to do with hitting your target IMO.
-
What length barrel are they using though? Is using pistol length gas on a 16" barrel illadvised? I believe I can order a Wilson Combat 16" with pistol gas for a decent price if not.

That is all that is needed. 300 uses the same BCG and mags. My only concern is using subsonic rounds both suppressed and unsuppressed.
-
Thanks for all the info. It will be carbine length...that ok for both super and subs? So this should suffice? http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Bolt-Carrier-Group-MPI-Auto-M16-p/bcm%20bolt%20carrier%20group%20auto%20mp.htm

Well I have about decided to just build a 300blk upper and looking for parts recommendations. In particular, I need suggestions on an adjustable gas block. Ill be using supersonic and subs through it so I need the flexibility the adj block will provide. I found a Yankee Hill upper - $95 Core15 16" barrel 1:8 - $235 Rifle length free float tube - $45 used (not sure brand) Adjustable gas block - ???? BCG - ?????? Suggestions for BCG? What advantage does chrome provide? Nitride? Are they worth the $100 extra?

I see your point, but Im not particularly interested in hunting with this cartridge. It will almost exclusively be used for subsonic suppressed plinking. If I do decide to take a deer with it, I would likely use a supersonic round unsuppressed. If I was using it for hog hunting, I would think about the 240gn Sierra round that seems to be getting a great deal of hype. It appears that it's performance is more than sufficient for hogs, but sadly I do not have a place to hog hunt back home (in AR.)
-
Of course, I have no intention of using it with my cheap red dot. In the (near?) future I plan on buying an Eotech and would reserve its use for that.
-
Yes, the use of supersonic rifle rounds could damage the blast baffle in a pistol suppressor. Subsonic, on the other hand, is safe to use given that you are using a quality can. The TiRant is a quality can and AAC supports the use of subsonic 300 blk through it. Obviously performance will be greater with a 30 caliber can, but that is another 6-7mo wait so this will suffice for now.
-
Thanks a lot for the info. What 9mm can are you using? Side question: Can you give me more info on the 3x magnifier? Im not versed on optics. I just put a cheap red dot on my 5.56.
-
Anyone have experience with this round? Particularly with subsonic rounds and suppressor? I plan on either building an upper or buying one to run with my TiRant 45 until I can afford a more appropriate suppressor. I was wondering what you all may have and if it runs well with subsonic rounds. What should I look out for? I was looking at a core15 barrel for ~250 with 1:8 twist for a build. This will be a 16" barrel as I don't want to mess with the SBR process at this time.

How to improve trigger of M&P 45c?
samson7x replied to lshel's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Yes, I installed the competition kit on my 9mm and if you look at the Burwell PDF, the sears are very similar. I did take the angle on the rear of the sear a bit further than the conservative recommendation by Burwell. IMO that has the most profound effect on the trigger pull. -
How to improve trigger of M&P 45c?
samson7x replied to lshel's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
If you have basic 'smithing skills and a few tools you can essentially get the same result that an Apex gives you. Google 'Burwell trigger job' and you can find his PDF file that explains it all. I did this to my .45 fullsize and the trigger is drastically different (for the better of course.)
