Drove up to On-Target today to break in the new XDM and a used but new to me AR M4. I had been there shooting with a few friends when a gentleman approached me pointing to my head. I was bewildered at first, wondering if I had forgot to take my hat off but turns out it was TGO David (Tungsten) and bnagashima also sporting his TGO hat. Nice to meet you guys. I have never been along on a group shoot, but still seems like I run into a lot of good people from here in gun stores and ranges. Now that I am getting pretty stocked up on guns, guess I am going to have to make it to one of the group get togethers.

Welcome to the forum. What kind of other forum do you post to? One of my favorite outdoor forums has a thread entitled "how many guns you got?" and the response is about the same as you related. So I spend a lot more time over here now; they don't make fun of my obsession so much over here:)

Oh Shoot, I was serious about missing Knoxville; just not that part of it I guess. For towns that size I can't think of anywhere I would rather be, with its proximity to the mountains. I just learned to keep my head up and pay a little better attention to my surroundings there. I was there from 90-95 and 98-01; I think that job corp brought a lot of undersirables close to campus. Maybe one day I can afford to retire back to East TN.

I miss Knoxville when I hear of things like this. I just feel sorry for the first time college students that don't realize or have not been educated yet to the fact that Knoxville is a wonderful place; but when you least expect it, things can turn ugly in a hurry. Maybe only witnessed 4 to 5 times over the course of 7 years...but made me learn to keep my guard up against mal-intentioned evil doers.

I have the same holster for my Taurus PT-745. It will produce slight holster wear on the slide, but guess this is par for the course with this type holster. Can't beat the price though.

NRA is 1000$ coverage now I think. Thought that this was automatic; but when I last signed up with them on the EPL plan, they sent me something to fill out so now I am not sure. (general form, no serial # required)

+ 1 on the Wilson Combat Magazines. I am about 375 rounds into my Kimber Stainless II and it just keeps getting smoother.

That is funny.

+1 It is a rule change by the Department of Interior. So they would have to go through the same lengthy process of seeking public input, etc to change it back as I understand it.

Yes you don't have to be faster than the bear; just faster than your slowest friend. I do intend to exercise our new right to carry in the Smokies when I go, but mostly only for the reason that a right that is not exercised tends to go away. Very few attacks over the lifetime of the park (by bears that is)...think that I would just pack for two legged variety; but I still think of that as a rare problem in the backcountry......of course around trailheads/portions of trails near roads, etc...the problem is more prevalent.

I picked up this little version a couple of years ago by Vargo...weighs just an ounce and has the pot supports built in...made of titanium. http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/vargo_triad_alcohol_stove_review.html

I am in the database.....maybe now that everyone knows my address and my birthday, I might get a present:)

Nothing wrong with car camping:) I still do that a lot myself when troutfishing in Cherokee National Forest. They even have a walk-in campsite there; kind of bridges the gap between car camping and backpacking. After the initial equipment purchase, I find I spend less money on backpacking trips than car camping ones; guess the fact you have to carry it on your back adds a bit of sanity to the amount of stuff you think you need:)

Congratulations on your decision to get into camping. I camp and backpack as often as I can still. I picked up the habit in college at UT...was always easier to go hiking than to go to class for some reason:) Not sure what your options in West TN are; I know that backpacking options are a bit limited that way if you like mountains, but am sure that you should be able to find something that direction. From fellow backpackers, I hear that the Ozarks over in Arkansas are really nice....maybe if not for a first trip, it might be something for you to explore later on. There are quite a few opportunites here in Middle TN, but I still find myself driving east to the Smokies and NC often as well. Good luck on your decision; I am sure that it will be rewarding for you. Need any input on equipment or anything drop me a line; might have some info or can point you in the right direction.....lots of discounted stuff online if you know what to look for. Bill

Haven't had any problems with hollowpoints in my full size Stainless. Would like to get a Crimson Carry one in the Ultra 3inch size eventually. What did you feed it at the range?

Toliver's Pawn in Manchester if you can't find anything closer; call and confirm, but the last one they did for me was 10$ + 10$ background.

I let my yearly membership expire 12/31/08 and now 24 days later I finally got around to doing something about it. I decided to go ahead and sign up for the Easy Pay Life plan. So in around 120 months I will be a full fledged life long member:)

Congratulations. Haven't been to Stones River to shoot, but now that we have a man on the inside.....I will put it on my to do list.
-
Glad you guys had a good time. I didn't see this thread until now; but I was busy Saturday anyway. A buddy and myself made the trip to On Target Friday. I would consider a yearly membership if I lived a bit closer. Put another 150 rounds through my Kimber Stainless II while there; I would have enjoyed checking out some your Kimbers though; have been thinking about getting a Pro or Ultra model eventually.
-
Glad to hear you got one. Three hundred rounds should give you a good idea about it. I still have my pt-745 that I qualified for my HCP with; I don't carry it often anymore, but I take it to the range when I go, and keep it under the pillow at night. Pretty good quality for the money; virtually no problems with it. And for some reason I like having a gun with an actual safety for under pillow duty.

last year about this time it took right at 6 weeks and 3 days for me....not sure if their workload is more this year but I would assume so.

Thanks eyebedam for the btt. Had just about forgotten about this offer. Just got back with my new P-32. Thanks for taking care of me once again Joe.

A guy at work thinks he has a Smith and Wesson Glock; I tried to straighten him out but I guess on the purchase paperwork the holster is a S&W/Glock model; so I finally gave up...polymer is polymer I guess.

Not worried too much about the deer poop, human poop is what to really watch out for. Of course the less poop in the water the better:) I use the MSR Sweetwater Guardian on the backpacking trips, but a nice gravity fed system would be the stuff for a SHTF system. The Guardian comes with an anti-viral solution for use when you are really worried about the source..(i.e. 3rd world/disaster)
