  1. Welcome from Franklin County. Enjoy your stay.
  2. Thanks for the link. I can also recommend campmor as a good place to shop. Have ordered several hundred dollars of camping stuff in the past and had good customer service and turnaround time. They even offered to match a price on a sleeping bag that was out of stock at another online retailer. And not mentioned above but they have a compact firebowl accessory for true leave no trace use.
  3. It is called the Grilliput. You can google it and find it in many places under that name. REI used to have them but are sold out at the moment. I have had one of these on my list for canoeing/kayaking for a couple of years...when I checked on them then, they were only sold through one website (guess it was the inventor); now apparently they are everywhere. Used to be available in two sizes on that old site...but now I only see one size. Darn nifty invention.
  4. Thanks guys, I will let you know how she does. Paletiger this is the one that I was telling you about a few months ago that a guy at work got. He is selling a few things to fund a FNH 5.7 purchase.
  5. I just picked this up used from a guy I work with. It has been on my list of guns for awhile and thought I would grab it while I had the opportunity. Stated round count is 30; there were two owners so it could be a bit more, but not a lot. It is the USG double action/single action model with a safety, so it can be carried in either double action mode for the first shot, single thereafter, or can be carried "cocked and locked" for single action only. It came packaged with 3 magazines : one 15 round and two 14 round with the 15 round having a bit of an extension on the bottom. I am not sure I am in love with the OD green color, but can't really pick colors when you happen along on a decent deal. I also got a Don Hume belt slide holster and 100 rounds of target ammo in the deal. It has a 4.5 inch barrel and comes with 2 interchangeable backstraps. I think I am going to like the white 3 dot sights; seems really easy to see. It is really about the same size as the XDM-9. Definitely not a small gun but but having that many 45 rounds in a handgun is pretty impressive. I will post a range report when I get a chance to take it for a drive. Am going to try to make it to the Guns and Leather shoot this month if anyone wants to shoot it. Have a couple of cell phone pics; may try to post some better ones later. Bill With the XDM
  6. Welcome from Franklin County. Enjoy your stay.
  7. Nice purchase. I have the Stainless II and have been very pleased with it.
  8. Yes I am not sure what their policy is for layaway. The sign on the outside just went up last week I think (big outside sign). Had heard of people doing things on layaway there before but have not had an opportunity to try it out. Not to derail the thread, but with that name are you a fellow kayaker?
  9. The sign outside of Hero Gear now says "Layaway Now For Christmas". Have been resisting stopping, but not sure how much longer I can hold out.
  10. Welcome from Franklin County. We are starting to get a good crowd from this area. Maybe when the Hoselton range is up and running, an area meet and shoot is in order.
  11. I might not be able to make it every month due to the drive, but would definitely be back as often as possible. I really like the range set up, with the little sitting room/TV/vending machines; makes for a very sociable place.
  12. Casa de Mexico is in the old Steeple Chase Motel. At one point they were the only Mexican Restaurant to have a patio, but now Camino does as well. I noticed the one in Winchester was not posted....I am assuming the one in Tullahoma has not posted either? The only other feature of Casa is that they do have a bar area with booths and stools, but I guess Camino it is from now on.
  13. Welcome. Thank you for your service. Make sure you make it home safe.
  14. No problem; anyone is welcome to shoot my Kimber to help with the first 1000 rounds break in period Thanks for letting me shoot your Sig...first one I ever shot and I have to say that double action on the first shot was pretty darn good. Have to add another to my wish list. Also the compact 1911 that you have for sale shot really well and I like those Hogue grips...that will be a good deal for someone. The .410/45LC revolver you were referring to is a Taurus (The Judge). No problem. But I have to say that your 1911 that I shot felt oh so good. It was an Ed Brown right? another to my wish list. Thanks for the pointers as well and for the 50 yd targets you sent home with me. Great chatting with you guys and everyone else as well.....hopefully we can all get together again soon and do it again.
  15. Thanks Daniel and everyone else at G and L. Thanks for getting this thing together. Was definitely good to meet everyone and get some range time in. The MP5 was pretty darn cool.
  16. In apartment living I could see how less penetration would be a good thing for the neighbors. Actually is one of the reasons I got the Judge, but I have two walls that I can worry a bit less about what is behind my target. So maybe with any luck I can get the bad guy to stand where I need:) Actually tactically the two walls are probably where an encounter would occur anyway....i.e. entrance way. Am still experimenting with different ammo with the Judge, but usually leave whatever I am carrying for the day on the bedside table.
  17. For an all around defense weapon the XD may be better for you. Even though you say that mostly the weapon will be in the car or at home, you might find it nice to carry with you from time to time. I convinced myself of the same thing, but now find myself carrying on my person about 98% of the time that I can carry. If I were you I would look for maybe a compact XD or one with different magazine sizes to go from full size capacity to compact carry size to open your options up even more. I get to Knoxville maybe once a month or a bit less. If I am up that way anytime soon you are welcome to shoot my Judge or XDM.
  18. It is still punishable by law to carry where alcohol is served. The new law just provided an exception for carry permit holders. I know that it makes for a confusing situation, but I think that those signs might still be required by ABC. Maybe someone here knows. Even confusing for us; probably even more confusing for those with English as a secondary language. I just had to explain to my gf the other day while going to the state park that those NO FIREARMS signs didn't apply to me:)
  19. From what I have heard the "It is a Felony Punishable" sign is still required by ABC. It is still a valid sign for non-permit holders. I think the signs even still say "where beverages are sold or served". Don't think that they apply to us. Have been walking past those signs into liquor stores for some time; and think that the same would go for restaurants now. Maybe Fallguy or someone that knows more will chime in.
  20. I have heard the same thing from several people from the area. Also I spent a night at Raven Point in South Cumberland Recreation Area and heard something circling sounding to be in heat or in distress before turning in. Awoke to the same thing circling even closer about 4am....never ever heard anything like it before or since....quite convinced it was a mountain lion. On a side note; I got an e-mail the other day that bears are now confirmed in South Cumberland Recreation Area. Apparently someone caught a picture of one not too far from Collins Gulf. The rangers had been seeing signs for awhile. Another example of things "not here" that eventually we find out they might have been here all along.
  21. Looking forward to this. You said in the first thread that there might be some full auto opportunities there? If so what caliber would these be? I have a bit of ammo but am planning on purchasing some there as well. I guess I am bringing my handguns. See below. Anyone is welcome to try any of these out.
  22. Yeah I need to renew my Benefactor status sometime soon too. Was that P-32 deal of Joe's that got me on board last time. Been putting it off; waiting on another deal;) Made sure to tell some of the gun nuts at work about this upcoming event. So far looks like everyone is excited about having something like this so close. Thanks for all the work trying to make this happen guys.
  23. I don't work for free But with a bit of swag (shirt or hat), I'm in too Let me know guys. I am just a few miles away as well.
  24. I am going to try to make it to this...sounds like a good time and meeting a few more people from TGO is always a plus.
