WWII P-38 bring back refinish
austin7.62 replied to 10-Ring's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
It’s yours to do what you want with, but I’d leave it alone. Being a late war gun, they were rough by German standards from the factory, and the fit and finish was nowhere near pre war or early war standards. I have a family member whose father brought back a P38 from WW2 in a holster and it stayed in there for a long time and was never oiled or cleaned and the finish was absolutely wiped out. It’s possible someone tried to strip the finish, or maybe the firearm got wet and stayed wet for an extended time in the field, or maybe sitting in a holster for 80 years has also contributed to how it looks. It’s a damn cool piece though, and I am jealous! -

some of you have asked about the bore. It could certainly use a cleaning. I just ran a patch down it and the bore snake a few times. It has defined rifling, and I think it will clean up with a soak and shooting it some. (I know pics aren’t great)

Looking to sell my eddystone M1917 (1,098,xxx, 11/18 barrel). I bought this a couple of years ago from RTI, and it has certainly seen better days. I took this rifle down and cleaned all of the grease and dirt out of it, and got it put back together. It’s not a very pretty rifle. A lot of the finish is gone, it is crusty in spots, and the stock has a crack in it on the right side by the receiver and hand guard. I have not attempted to repair the crack, and I have lost interest in this firearm and have a nicer example now. The rifle does have some positives, such as: a decent to good bore, with some wear and pitting throughout. It is complete, and the sights work and are not frozen or anything like that. I have not fired this weapon, but function tested it, and it seems to work fine. Restock the rifle, or repair the cracked stock, and you have what is probably a good shooter. $400, obo. Prefer Lenoir city/maryville/west Knox meet. You can PM me and I can text/email you more pictures.

I’m not sure, I’m not very knowledgeable about G3s or HK91s. I do know it has an HK bolt, not sure if that’s what you’re talking about or not -
Looking to sell or trade my G3 rifle. These are built by PTR with Portuguese FMP kits that are brought in by Century. The rifle comes with a surplus German sling that has seen better days, and 12 mixed steel and aluminum magazines. I put 40 rounds through this rifle with no issues. Looking to sell for $900 for everything, or trade for a Zastava M77, or M1A (plus boot on my end), or milsurp that catches my eye. Knoxville area meet. Reduced to $850.
