  1. As I read the law, you may legally carry there if it is not posted, but the Attorney General can't understand Tennessee code and has an opinion that says that you can not carry in an unposted municipal park. He is clearly wrong but that doesn't mean the cops will be able to understand that.
  2. I won't debate the point, but I have five holsters I used silicone on and they haven't been ruined after years of faithful service.
  3. Municipal ownership of the property does not make it off limits to carry. Municipalities still have to post unless it is a prohibited property under state law, such as a school, courtroom while court is in session, or place that serves alcohol for consumption. I was library board chairman in Sullivan county up until a few months ago. The only county library in this county where you can not carry is Sullivan Gardens and that is because that one sits on school property. Bristol, Tennessee does legally .post. Last time I checked, Kingsport posts, but not according to Tennessee Code. In Tennessee, libraries must post. The problem is that people think you can not carry in municipally owned buildings. That's just incorrect. Except for the few places mentioned in state code, you can carry in publicly owned buildings, unless they are posted.
  4. And the sane from the insane.
  5. Libraries are definitely not prohibited locations. But some do post signs.
  6. It's legal unless the building is posted, or it's in some place like a school.
  7. But to add a bit, I think government should prevent companies from not allowing guns in their employee's vehicles as a condition of employment.
  8. Do they have a mailbox for your wife to go to on Beale?
  9. Absolutely.... But Tungsten doesn't ask for my advice.
  10. That's what I was going to say.
  11. Just helps it break in faster and provides a smoother draw.
  12. Good god Dave. I knew there was a reason to hate you. Modifying a Garand? M1 Carbines (United States Carbine, Caliber .30, M1) are a lot of fun, but I wouldn't want to trust my life in combat to one.
  13. I like the silicone spray too.
  14. That ain't nothin'. Guns R Us in Bristol has Lorcins and Ravens.
  15. I don't think I've ever done BP cleanup un the sink. Then again I shoot cap-lock rifles. But I did do cleanup for one of those in a motel bathtub once. Recommendation: Don't do that.

If it's in Kingsport, the area code is 423. I've never heard of them.
  17. Not much, if any.
  18. I'd never heard of him either. Another child star burns up, I guess.
  19. The Tennessean would be opposed to sensible gun law change? I am shocked --- truly shocked.
  20. The BATFE has been known to embellish and use it's imagination on occasion to create a MG out of stuff like a piece of string, but it sounds like this may be a good case. You can make a gun for yourself (not a MG) and help someone else put the parts they bough together. But you can't make and sell one without a license. I think Olofson's clear problem is possession of a NFA rifle. Whether he sold a rifle to Kiernicki, or anyone else is another matter, although Kiernicki says he ordered a rifle from Olofson. Olofson was not licensed to manufacture or sell firearms. I just find Olofson's story to not be believable.
  21. So the guy has an unmodified AR-15 that happens to allow the selector to go into the burst mode position and a weird wear pattern on the bolt that makes that mode somehow work except if it jams. Yeah...right.... I'm asking for an investigative report on how that can happen from the tooth fairy. Here are a few pictures of trigger groups that may give you some idea of what has to be done to make an AR-15/M16 fire in burst mode. I'll throw in the full auto group too. AR-15 Standard trigger group M16 full auto group M16 tri-burst group I'd even be slightly more likely to believe his story if it was full auto rather than burst mode with the selector in fire position. Nah, I just can't buy this story.
  22. A similar bill got through the Senate before. The problem is in the House and it's biggest problem sits in the Speaker's chair. I'm still very doubtful of passage in that chamber. Canynracer, I agree about the baby steps. Lyndon Johnson called it getting half a loaf now and the rest later.
  23. Actually, I think that open carry on Beale Street would be legally defensible. I think the city is enforcing laws they are not permitted to make under Tennessee Code. If I ever win the lottery, I might have the money to challenge it. This is the kind of thing publicized and fought by gun rights groups in other states. Meantime, I'm glad I live about as far away from Memphis as I can and still be in Tennessee.
  24. BSA makes these Sweet series scopes that are designed for calibers up through 30-06. I can't imagine that they won't hold up on rifles they were designed for.
  25. FlyboyLDB, I somewhat keep up with Georgia. My parents grew up there and my brother was born there. I still have lots of relatives there between Atlanta and Telfair county. I understand your point. But my view is that property rights are less important than the individual right to protect yourself. The right of self-preservation is considerably more important than being able to tell someone they can't do so because they are on private property. Some "rights" are more important than others, and self-preservation tops the list. Do you support Weyerhaeuser's actions in Oklahoma? I think Governor Perry, in Texas, has the right idea. If you have a permit, you should be able to carry a handgun anywhere you want - no exceptions. That includes your car at work. I'm familiar with HB 89, and personally I'd support it as a business owner. But I think you have a good point that it is unlikely to pass. That bill should also include elimination of liability for the property owners for crimes and accidents on their property from the use of employees handguns. I hadn't heard of HB 915 until yesterday and haven't gotten up to speed on it. At first glance, it looks good. But it seems to me it should supplement the individual right to have a firearm in your car at your place of employment.
