  1. I did the same thing Mikey. I thought I'd see how the "new" show looked and heard that. I changed the channel about five seconds later.
  2. Yeah, we've kept up with that. I'm not sure of the anniversary date of the board, but the earliest post I could find was 16 January, 2007. So we went from zero to over a thousand in only a year. I think that's remarkable for a small focus board - Gun owners in Tennessee.

    Coffee maker

I know what you mean Mikey. My old Black & Decker under cupboard coffee maker gave up the ghost and I replaced it with one with the thermal pot rather a pot heater. If you are there when it stops brewing, you can get out one cup of hot coffee. After that it's microwave reheat time. Yeah, they still make the brewers with the heating element, but I like the hang up makers for space reasons.

Mike, you might as well drop it. This has been discussed and evidence cited numerous times in other threads. But if you don't repeat that evidence every time it is requested in every thread, it doesn't exist for some reason. There is plenty of evidence. Just Google Glock Kaboom. You get over 22,000 hits.
  5. Thanks for that link. As they say about Ranger ammo: This ammo is typically restricted to law enforcement sales only through Winchester. That is a Winchester rule, NOT a law, so you can legally purchase and posess this ammo. I remember the hysteria about the "cop killer" Black Talon ammunition, that had a Teflon coating and thus would penetrate protective vests. "There will be cop blood flowing in the streets!" Only problem is that it wouldn't penetrate vests. The Teflon gave it a slightly higher velocity. It was never there to somehow magically part the fibers in Kevlar vests. Laws were stupidly passed on local and state levels banning it. Winchester did a slight revision of the "talon" design and eliminated the Teflon coating. They re-named it Ranger. When you look at ballistics data, Rangers are good carry ammo, but so are a number of other rounds including Hydra-Shoks and Gold Dots. I generally use Rangers in 40 S&W but Hydras in 9mm. It really isn't a big deal. I think there is a lot of "LE carries it" mystique in people lusting so much over Rangers.

Hasn't been a really exciting game today....

    what would you buy

Actually, I was just answering the question. I get to do that too. My answer was I wouldn't buy either, but I'd pick the XD over the Glock because it's safer. Then we started with the standard, Glocks are god's gift to humanity posts. Yep we all have opinions. I've backed my "conclusions" up in many threads before, with supporting arguments. I haven't seen any of the Glock deists do that.

    Boy, ain't that the truth.

    You need to think more.
  10. And the lithium grease from the automotive department works just as well as the lithium grease from sporting goods.
  11. I also only use factory loads for my duty/carry weapons. Unfortunately, I really don't have time to do plinking rounds. I just shop around for the best deals. But yeah, bullet seating depths are adjustable when reloading. Just keep twisting the knob until it gets right, then lock it down.
  12. I think we are getting some confusion as to case length and OAL. According to my Sierra manual, case length should be 1.250" and Maximum OAL is 1.590. For all the rounds they show, COAL should be 1.585. Once the bullets get moving and are part way down the barrel, the pressures aren't that much of a concern, as you have more volume (area) to dissipate that pressure. BTW, I find that the Sierra accuracy or hunting load is normally the right one for a given powder. Only thing I've changed for the Remington is the OAL to compensate for the long Remington chamber. If you don't have a Sierra Reloading Manual, buy one.
  13. Yeah, the denim tends to clog up the hole in the HPs and prevent expansion.
  14. Yeah, it can be dangerous seating the bullet too deeply in the case. That tends to lead to higher pressure, which can be dangerous. I load my 308s longer than the max OAL. That's because I load them specifically for my Remington 700 and get greater accuracy that way. But you have to be careful loading that way or you can also get dangerous pressure spikes.
  15. Nah, you can panic and shoot yourself with any handgun. Of course some guns do seem to go off more when you aren't in a panic....

So does the continuous Glock proselytizing.
  17. Check out http://www.dtvanswers.com/ for info about picking up digital signals with a regular antenna. You will need a DTV converter box. The (we're hear to help you) government will give you up to two $40 coupons to apply toward the converters. See http://www.ntia.doc.gov/. Converter prices are expected to be in th $50-70 range. But you will need the converter box by 17 February 2009. Wouldn't hurt to go ahead and get the box unless you plan to get a DTV ready set. I think they will send out the coupons beginning 17 February of this year. You have 90 days from issuance to use them.

No..... I won't say it. I've been over it too many times.

    I want one!

Wayne stayed in Hollywood 4-F, as I recall, because of his feet So did Roy Rogers. I'll take Gene Autry who went to war and especially Jimmy Stewart who fought to get into the Army Air Corps and finally Stewart flew as command pilot in the lead B-24 on numerous missions deep into Nazi-occupied Europe.. John Wayne.... Pew. I'll take James Stewart every time. He was a real hero. Wayne was just an actor.

Yes there is! They are just stupid affectations. John Wayne gold plated NRA M16. Just idiotic.
  21. And it becomes sticky gunk that will kill primers. My rule is to keep WD-40 at least 20 yards from any ammo.

    Campaign trail

Damn Rabbi, you are smarter than I thought (well - not really). Most educated people aren't that smart. I was destined to be a professor, but also was too smart to do that too.
  23. Oh yeah, sizing dies.... Neck sizing does have use where you will be shooting the same gun. In a sense, the detonation sizes the brass for your particular weapon and that can mean more accuracy if you only use a neck sizing die. Might want to do a case trim though. If you use several weapons in that caliber then the full sizing die is the way to go.
  24. Candle wax? I guess it might work. The lube is for the dies to work properly. But some dies don't need it. Normally chromium plated dies. It really is worth buying top-of-the-line dies. Regardless, please keep all oils, including especially WD-40 away from any ammo. It will kill the primers unless you take steps to prevent it.

Krylon sticks pretty well to gold. I'd just use that.
