  2. Well, if they treat you right and pay you properly, you don't look to go somewhere else. I never understand why companies don't figure that out. I couldn't do your job, Tower. I'm not afraid of heights. In fact I enjoy standing on the edge of a cliff half a mile above the valley or sitting in the open door of a chopper heading down country. But I get nervous on the upper section of an extension ladder. Something about that climbing part....
  3. ..........
  4. Actually, that is pretty much the approved technique.
  5. That's pretty much the way I think too. I'm not a bigot. Far from it. I have absolutely no use for bigots or other fools. If you do act like a fool around me, you will probably find out quickly that I think you are one and you may not be happy with the outcome. I'm basically a very nice guy, as long as you don't oppose me. If you fight fair, I'm probably going to be a nice guy even if we are on different sides. But I treat idiots like idiots, both verbally and if necessary physically. I am a master at being impolite in a very polite way. You get more done that way. It is also stupid to go out of your way to needlessly push folk's buttons. You don't have to tell someone that they are a fool. You just demonstrate the point and everyone figures it out.
  6. I had something similar happen with me some years ago. I was between "government jobs" and working for a technical sales rep in Kingsport. People I'd known since I was literally in diapers. At one point they decided their staff should sign agreements to not leave them and set up a competing company for whatever length of time. While I had no intention of becoming their competition, I also had no intention of limiting my options. They backed down (hard to find people with my experience?) and a few months later I did resign to do more more government stuff. Funny thing was that three of the companies they represented called me to see if I was starting my own company and, if so, would I take on their equipment to represent.
  7. I doubt this will change. The Texas Governor has the right idea. No place should be allowed to prevent carry to protect yourself. Only a tragedy like someone's family getting killed in a posted location because a licensed packer left his gun outside to obey the law, coupled with a major legal settlement because the business proactively prevented him from protecting them, is likely to spur any action.
  8. Total waste of your time. They have to see the dog in your yard - yeah...right.
  9. Can you take a lunch box?
  10. I love dogs. I rescue dogs.I think Michael Vick should have been given life with Bubba. Now.... If it's a dog I think is "vicious" and it's in my yard - it's a dead dog. Tennessee code makes it illegal for you to let your uncontrolled dog get off of your property. I'd shoot the dog and then make it's owner pay for having someone drag it back to their yard.
  11. Yeah, no place is really safe. Even out in the boonies where I live we had a bunch of car break ins a couple of years ago. My vehicles have a motion light looking over them and a few dogs who would hopefully bark, but valuable stuff comes into the house at night. I do not lock the car. That isn't an option in most urban places. And yes, I'd have a gun in the car when I went to work. Unless they have metal detectors, it would be in my briefcase in a zip-up Daytimer case in the office with me. And I would tell ----- no one.
  12. Hey!!! That's my job!!!!!!!
  13. Phantom6 covered my thoughts about trigger pull and such. Again, your wife needs to pick out the gun, with your assistance. Here's the Tomcat with the barrel flipped up. Note that you can cock the hammer for an easier SA first shot or in a panic just pull the trigger in DA. One more thought. In my view, it's a good idea to stick to "standard" ammunition. My rule of thumb for that is - if I can't buy ammo for it at Wal-Mart, I don't want the gun. That doesn't mean that the ammo you want for defense is at Wal-Mart, just that you should be able to find practice ammo there.
  14. Looks like the bad weather will hold off long enough to get in some good shooting. Y'all have fun now - ya heeeer? And don't sue each other or run with scissors.
  15. If you feel comfortable with a 32 Auto caliber, you might look at the Beretta Tomcat. You don't have to rack the slide to put a round into the chamber. Most people here think the 32 is a bit weak, but I know several law enforcement folks who carry them as back-up-guns and some women who carry them as primaries. It's a far better choice than having nothing. I'll agree that some revolvers are also a reasonable choice but they must cock easily. Pistols have the advantage of not having to re-cock the gun for a second shot. Fibromyalgia can be a severely limiting factor in the choice. Above all, don't buy her a gun that she hasn't had a chance to hold and at least dry fire. She needs to make the choice. Sock drawers are just full of unloaded guns bought for wives who didn't care for the weapon.
  16. I can certainly attest to the fact that both rifles and handguns can do just fine in the rain. But I'd leave the flintlock at home.

    Kel-Tec .40?

I once saw a long-time constable have that problem with a new G23. Once we explained what he was doing wrong, he was able to correct the problem.
  18. My goodness, that was a good shot.
  19. OK, are we back in Kingsport on the 19th?
  20. Actually, what I'm seeing about the weather looks OK for tomorrow. Sunday is another matter. Still, I'm going to wuss out on this one too. Too much going on to make the trip. Maybe I can go to the top of my ridge and take out someone on the interstate.
  21. Yeah, true. But some places are more safe than others.
  22. Yep, it is pretty up there. Somewhere I have a bunch of photos I shot there when putting together a virtual Melungeon tour some years ago.
  23. Hell Frank. I don't generally call homosexuals by those terms. I have people I work with who are gay and it's none of my damn business. I might use the terms if I got mad at them. But lets be honest, not using those terms is being PC. Whether it is good for our cause or not is another matter. And, BTW I despise board software that sensors words. I remember we had to disable one of the dumb things in a chatroom because it wouldn't let you type in about "cock"ing a gun hammer.
  24. How about "queer", "closet queen", "fairies", "fruits", "nance", "nelly", "pansy" or "swish"? We don't have to be PC, but please don't use "fag"? Give me a break. That was a plea for PC-ness.
  25. Howdee. What lead you to Hancock county?
