  1. If I have a problem with the grip safety on the XD, it's that is too easy to disengage. If I want a manual safety, then that's what I want. When I had the XD, I learned to put my thumb on the slide as I re-holstered the weapon, which makes you take your hand off of the grip safety. That way, if something should hit the trigger, the gun will not fire.
  2. Yeah, the brass deflector was added when the M16A2 came out. I've cleaned the brass marks off of it many times.
  3. What thumb safety? You lost me.
  4. Somehow I missed this until now. Guess my luck is running out. It was certainly.........different.....
  5. My G26 became an XD-9 subcompact, but eventually I wanted something easily cockable and de-cockable for IWB, so I went to a P7M8. Still carry that one.
  6. For me, it depends on the situation. If I'm just running to Wal-Mart, I don't feel a need for any additional magazines. For general carry in a place I feel less comfortable (like a convenience store after dark), one spare is fine. I add more as the perceived threat potential increases. On occasion, I carry four extra magazines.
  7. Maybe busy-body is a better term than do-gooder.

    Computer Guys

I could have done without the last few posts.
  9. I think every generation becomes a bit more gutless than the last. I don't know that it is cowardice so much as a desire to have government do things for you that you could do for yourself. People want Social Security and Medicare, even if it means they actually pay for it themselves in taxes and also in loss of freedom. I think we have to be really gutless to allow our legislature to pass do-gooder laws like the seatbelt laws and not vote the slime out of office.
  10. I'm pretty sure this is the group I remember some acquaintances joining some years ago. http://tennesseeencyclopedia.net/imagegallery.php?EntryID=T061 has some information. They would have been the Tennessee Defense Force back then. They had patches that were very bright. I always thought they would make a great aim point. Now, since they changed their name, they may have become a more professionally acting force. What I remember from the old days was that they had a bunch of guys who I wouldn't want around me in a real fight. But again, that may not be fair to them now.
  11. Filet mignon would be good.
  12. What's a Golf? Do they taste like chicken?
  13. Keep it positive folks. We can do other topics about why we like XDs and stuff if we want.
  14. I had made a conscious decision to not ask about that. But I'm glad you did.
  15. I'm going to try to keep myself on topic in this thread but would like to continue one part of this in another topic. So I created http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?p=41588 that asks Why do you carry a Glock? I'm interested in the positives in that topic, not why someone shouldn't carry one, if that is your view. I'd like to know why you chose to buy and carry a Glock. As far as the Siderlock is concerned, I think it takes away one of the better features of Glocks - the lack of a manual safety you have to remember to deal with in a crisis situation.
  16. OK, a serious question and not intended to produce another flame-war topic. This isn't a thread asking should you carry a Glock, but one about why you do carry a Glock. I keep asking myself why people choose Glocks as a personal handgun. I ask the same question about other guns too. Why a H&K. Why a S&W, or Beretta or Ruger. I know why LE carries them. Cost, reliability, no manual safety to interfere with operation, etc. I understand why recreational shooters like IDPA participants use them. I understand why I tried them. I was doing more LE-type stuff at the time than military-type stuff and Glocks were recommended by some LE friends. Even when it became apparent to me that a G26 wasn't what I personally wanted in a concealed carry handgun, I was willing to try a G23 as a side carry weapon. But why does average Joe packer or plinker buy a Glock?
  17. Most Glocks can get by pretty well with the unsupported chamber problem. The cartridge either has lower pressure, like the 45 ACP, or the surface area exposed in that unsupported area is small enough to not be a problem, as in 9mm. The biggest problem is in the 40 S&W, that has fairly high pressure combined with a fairly large surface area in the unsupported part of the chamber. But with normal loads, all you likely will ever get is a bit of a bulge. There just is very little safety factor in the chamber design. Too little for me to feel comfortable. As to NDs, as molonlabetn pointed out, "the problem is that they are very unforgiving of incompetence". I think that's a pretty good summation. If you do everything right, you won't get a ND in a Glock. But other guns that you can get away with having a brain fart without it becoming a big incident may be a serious problem in a Glock. My thinking is that while you can't make a gun foolproof, you can make more nearly foolproof with better design.
  18. Well I've never been very bashful.
  19. Phanton6 recently sent me a copy of the video they still show to carry permit classes. It was done in 1999 or 2000 and says you can not carry where alcohol is sold. It's pretty outrageous that the state hasn't done a new video in the six years that this information has been incorrect.
  20. That's alright sometimes people get forgetful.
  21. As far as I'm concerned, the first picture was for the guys.
  22. I'm not concentrating much on the injured guy's legal status. Doesn't seem relevant. What we have is someone who showed up early to a job and then grabbed the dog's master. If he had come when scheduled, the dogs would have been up. If he hadn't grabbed the dog's master, he probably would have had few or superficial wounds. I just don't see that the dog deserves to be put down because this guy provoked an attack.
