  1. Oh goody, yet another chance at a flame-war! I do open carry when I think it is appropriate. I just don't think it is a good idea for most general carry. Only a fool would open carry!
  2. For years I have operated with one foot in the military world and the other in the law enforcement world. Guns that are good for LE use are not necessarily good for military use and vice versa. Some guns, like SIGs, H&Ks, and some Berettas work well in either world. I have to disagree about the Beretta 92 being "short by a large margin of the 226." Having used a 92SB for about two decades, I find it every bit as capable and trustworthy as any of my other handguns. I still carry it in the field.
  3. I think we have gotten out of the realm of conclusion and into the realm of opinion on this. My view is that the level of competence demonstrated by the firearms qualification part of the carry permit course is so low as to be meaningless. Whether a jury would see it that way is a matter of speculation. I suspect you would be in a better legal situation if you could demonstrate that you could qualify to the level of a law enforcement officer.
  4. You are thinking of No Second Place Winner by Bill Jordan. Excellent book.

    Do you .22?

You gotta have a .22 to wind down at a shoot. Mine's a Buckmark Camper.
  6. Boy, that's a convoluted post. You have to know about another topic for the humor in that to become obvious.
  7. I guess some of us just have a sense of humor.
  8. About the only negative thing I could say about the XD vs. the Glock, in my personal experience, was the slide rusting problem in the early models. I fixed that by having the slide Duracoated. Since the finish has now been improved, even that reason is gone.
  9. They are probably counting the immune globulin shots that they administer around the site of the bites. After that, there are five doses of rabies vaccine injected into your arm over 28 days, including the first one when they do the immune globulin shot/shots.
  10. The mall in Bristol, just barely on the Virginia side, posted for a short time. A number of packers, who regularly shopped there, went to the mall office and complained. The signs came down. Malls tend to be owned by large corporations who try to make one rule fit all their properties, but if you yell loudly enough they may change their policies. This might be a good time to write the mall management and explain that considering the recent rash of mall shootings that you won't shop there until you can carry a gun for your own protection, and the protection of your family on their property.

    Computer Guys

    Compu$erve, Delphi, GEnie, Plodogy.
  12. I alternate uranium and tungsten rounds.
  13. Personally, I prefer to open carry a Glock in 380 Auto.
  14. I talked again yesterday with someone who carries a G21 SF. I don't think he'll change handguns. He's a big Glock fan, but he says he can shoot the M&P better. You might want to try the M&P too. Also, the XD series Springfields are doing really well in comparisons with the M&P and Glock.
  15. As I've mentioned, I was carrying a G26 for casual street use and traded it the same day I got to shoot an XD-9 sub. I preferred the safety (both grip and supported chamber type), natural pointing, and trigger, plus a few other things.
  16. I think I've mentioned the guy who is a Glock nut and carries a G21 SF but says he likes the way the M&P shoots better than his Glock. I'd probably have to set up a logic matrix if the XD was thrown into the mix.
  17. I've been a member of a few juries. I'm betting that it is more likely that one of the jury panel says something like, "Sounds to me like this defendant wanted to have as many ways to kill someone as he could pay for training to do. He even took extra classes to be able to be more likely to kill someone."
  18. Again, I haven't shot an M&P. I gotta do that. I found that the XD feels "crisp", if that makes any sense. Another reason I traded my G26 for an XD-9 sub. The XD wasn't just repeatable, if just had a feeling of being repeatable. No nonsense. Kinda' a touchy-feely thing. It felt more Germanic than French.
  19. Thinking back, I can see that. Interesting point.
  20. But that's the legislature's call.
  21. I love the ham one.
  22. I don't think I've ever tried to rack a slide without my hand in position on the backstrap. I'll have to think about it.
  23. But you don't have to push either to make the gun chamber a round with a full magazine. Just pull the slide to the rear and release. I could understand if you are releasing the slide with an empty magazine, but that's not a time critical matter.
