  1. We've had a lot more response here than I expected. I mentioned my buddy Curtis. This is from his first tour. In one of Saddam's palaces.
  2. Good question. I've worked gun shows for other organizations. I'd be glad to help if NRA set up a booth at our local shows.
  3. I'm sure Tower will post the pics.
  4. My buddy Curtis trained at Knox when he was an E-5. Then the Army sent him back to college to get his degree. He's a Captain over in Iraq right now.
  5. OK, time for a report from the range - if any of you survived and didn't shoot each other.
  6. Tower, no super deals yet, but I did pick up a Remington Dehumidifier for my safe. Model 365 Mini-Dehumidifier You recharge it by just plugging it in for 8-12 hours. The stuff I'm using now has to be baked in the oven for hours. Big pain and it keeps me from making cookies all day long. Got it for about 20% off - $19.50 which seems to be a good price. With a month to go, I don't think the deals will be super for a while. Mike is job hunting, of course. If you know of a place that needs an old hippie.... Busy shop yesterday. One guy was doing 15 shotgun transfers. Talked a lot to an old vet who did Marshall Plan stuff in Europe, was at Chosin Reservoir in Korea and worked for MAAG in Vietnam. He says the prostitutes in Pigalle (Pig Alley) were the best.
  7. I'll have to miss this one. I have to be in JC at noon. I talked to Mike at Top Notch Guns and he'll miss it too. Has to be in Bristol about then. BTW, Top Notch is closing. The property was bought by someone who doesn't want a gun shop. They will close around the end of August. I suggest that for September, we get the schedule set really early as to what we will do when. Tower, how does lunch look this next week?
  8. I doubt I'll make this one but we'll see. Did we ever set up whether we'll meet first for lunch or just meet at the range? Last time we met at Pratt's at 1100. If just going to the range, someone had better post driving instructions again. And Tower, you need to get a phone with a local area code.
  9. OK, are we back in Oak Ridge for this one? Saturday, August 18 I assume.
  10. Well yes...grease is sometimes made from paraffinic oil but a lot of oil is dewaxed in the process of refining. I'm not saying that the wax is bad, just that I'd like to know more about the wax in this product before deciding it would be good for gun use.
  11. I have to throw in that IMHO laws should punish behavior that actually harms others, not that just potentially might do so. To me this is the standard. But admittedly, this is not the definition most people want to use for harmful. I want to punish the guy who harms someone by recklessness in driving their car too fast or drunk. I'm not interested in arresting or fining people for going 45 MPH in a 30 MPH zone or who may have had one more drink than is arbitrarily considered acceptable if they don't actually harm someone.
  12. I've never heard of it, but the Teflon and molybdenum (disulfide?) sounds OK. Not sure about the polymerized wax part though.
  13. Most of these laws are probably ostensibly passed to enhance the penalty for illegal behavior. Unfortunately, keeping good people from packing makes thuggery more likely and harder to control and decreases public safety. It just creates defenseless good citizen zones.
  14. I installed them on the G23 when I had it. No Loctite needed.
  15. Actually, I've never heard of a Hi-Point kabooming. Nothing wrong with a 380 for personal defense. Something with more power is better, but it's hard to find a good pistol in 50 BMG. My carry class had several people using a .22 to qualify. It's legal to use a .22 as a carry weapon. Sounds like some instructors are a bit anal retentive.
  16. Lots of brain-dead folks in big cities think it is real and will work.
  17. Now you know you are going to get some ribbing about this purchase - don't you? Fact is I have a retired police chief friend who uses a Hi-Point 380 as his car gun.
  18. While I don't like Fobus, or other thermoplastic holsters, I never heard of them bonding to the handgun from heat. The holster will deform with enough heat. For Kydex, this starts around 175 degrees F. Certainly a barrel might exceed this temperature but to melt enough to bond? But plastic holsters can be ripped off of the body pretty easily. 19. You keep your spare mags up front above your business? Absolutely true.
  20. Man, we already have more responses than I expected. No one from Operation Just Cause or Operation Urgent Fury yet.
  21. Well being a Vietnam era vet does date you. A lot of employers want someone they can use for a few years and get rid of when they turn 50 or so. But if you fool them into giving an interview because they don't know your age you probably just wasted the gas money doing the interview.
  22. It's a double-edged sword. Sometimes military experience helps and sometimes it hurts.
  23. Well said. But some warriors may talk to each other about what they did. More therapy than information in some ways. However, I've seldom heard real warriors boasting about it unless they are of advanced rank from brown-nosing. A lot of combat vets never talk about what they did. The standard phrase is, "I did my job." That's particularly true of WWII vets. Unfortunately by Vietnam, it became fashionable in some circles to tell how bad we had it. “War is not healthy for children and other living things" and all that whining.
