  1. If it's not a Glock, it doesn't matter.
  2. I don't even know if I can get to a shoot. Only place I know is the forest service range that I could suggest. Guess we wore out our welcome at Tower's brother's place? I've tried to get hold of one of my neighbors who has a big farm. Problem is, I'm sure he would want me there, if he said yes. He's had so many problems with people shooting up his silos and all that he is reluctant to let people shoot on his property. It would be a big help if we could get an official TFO group started up here. Lots of the shooters I know don't do Internet or much other computer stuff. I've been wanting to start a Tri-Cities gun group for several years, but until my schedule settles down, that is pretty much impossible.
  3. Somehow I had missed this topic until now. Damn you fury2neon!
  4. Well...yes indeed. That will be what happens.... There is a pretty clear trend here though. Right now 59% of our voters say that $20 is as much as they are willing to pay for a transfer. Only 2.27% say they would pay more than $25. The gun dealers can make as much or as little of that as they wish.
  5. I dropped by Top Notch today and talked to Mike. I think what he really wants to do is go down to Oak Ridge the next time to see Phantom6's range. Mike said you two had a good talk.... BTW, Phantom6, Mike wanted to know if you teach RSO classes. He would be interested in taking one from you. PM me if you want more details.

    Carry Pistol

And if you are buying a new bed with your girlfriend.... Well, never mind.
  7. We went through this carry permit not being linked to your tags before. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showpost.php?p=13944&postcount=64 Under the current circumstances, and considering you do not have to volunteer your carry status to an officer in Tennessee, I just wouldn't mention it. It might possibly come up when they run your DL, but that apparently is normally by officer request. You guys need to learn to be friendly and smile at officers. A little banter and friendliness can keep you out of a lot or trouble. Works in dealing with drunks who want to fight you too.
  8. I don't know of any officers in my area who will take your gun for just a normal traffic stop, but I can see that as valid in some cases. The law says, "The officer shall return the handgun to the permit holder before discharging the permit holder from the scene". Basically, the intent of the law is that if you are being discharged from the scene, you get your gun back. Otherwise, you are being arrested.
  9. Is there a problem with that? It lets an officer disarm you while he determines if you will be arrested for something. He returns the handgun if you aren't arrested and are determined not likely to harm someone when you get it back. At that point you are released from the scene. Yes, it's the officer's judgment call. That's part of what we pay them to do.
  10. Guys, we need to end the personal attacks and name calling. One way or another we will do so. Debate the issues, not the character of the person posting. We want vigorous debate on issues. Have at it! We don't want personal attacks. Please think about and re-read your post before you hit the "Submit Reply" button.
  11. Yeah, then you'd look like a coal miner out on strike.
  12. Does Nashville still have that bagel place out near Vanderbilt? I used to bring a couple of dozen home with me every time I got there.
  13. Just remember that Virginia State Parks are concealed only with a permit.
  14. You shoot the Bass with a handgun?

    Death Penalty

Sometimes the evidence is clear and not circumstantial, DNA testing just helps the prosecution. If both the jury concluded there was no doubt of guilt and the judge agreed, there is no need for extensive appeals. I mentioned the Bristol Cop killing case. There is no doubt about the guilt of this guy. None. The murderer should be breathing dirt by now.
  16. I have mixed feelings on avoiding open carry. Of course open carry is pretty normal for me, either fully open or IWB but with the grip clearly visible. But I dress like someone who would carry, frequently with a military T-shirt and LE or Homeland Security cap. I'd like to see open carry become common so the non-carrying public would get used to it and maybe want to pack themselves. This is from the Virginia Citizens Defense League newsletter. Do remember that Virginia laws are different than ours and anyone may open carry.

    Death Penalty

It doesn't have to be that way.
  18. I'd think much more highly of someone who just told me they don't do transfers than someone who said it would cost $100.
  19. I really can't recommend any of them. They tend to not bite the hand that feeds them, which means that if a company advertises with them, they don't say nasty stuff about the gun. See this from a bio of Dean Spier, who was fired for his views of Glocks. As I understand it, Gaston made it clear that if Spier wrote for a magazine, their advertising dollars would be pulled. Dean Speir, who once wrote in the gunzines as "Waldo Lydecker," and has also been assigned such bylines as "John D. McGee," "M.R. Tibbs," "Floyd Thursby" and sundry others by an Editor terrified of the wrath of Glock, Galco and SigArms, has authored over 600 articles in periodicals such as Guns Magazine, Combat Handguns, Petersen's Handguns, American Handgunner, The New Gun Week, Gun & Shooter, Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement, Shooting Industry, American Firearms Industry, Machine Gun News, Practical Shooting International, Law Enforcement Technology, Police Product News, the late lamented The American Guardian, The Shotgun News, Germany's Visier, various DBI Books, and, in a misguided moment, even Women & Guns. He is a multiple graduate of John Farnam's Defensive Training International, plus courses by Ken Hackathorn and Pat Rogers' E.A.G. Tactical, as well as Gunsite, and Mas Ayoob's Lethal Force Institute. He is a Life Member of the National Rifle Association, with which organization he has been unsuccessfully engaged in battle for the past dozen years. In August 2001, in what must rank as one of the great ironies of the 21st Century, he was awarded a Lifetime Membership in the Glock Shooting Sports Foundation! I would recommend Gun Tests, which accepts no advertising, but some of their "tests" are just plain flaky and wacko. So, I get a lot of information online or from knowledgeable friends and generally pass on the magazines.
  20. I think it's entirely up to the business owner to set the hours. Small business owners have to have some time off too. Many don't even have another employee. But I think it makes more sense to be open on Saturday and off on Sunday and Monday, or off Friday and Saturday but be open on Sunday. A couple of nights of evening hours are a plus too.
  21. We've discussed the tax thing in another topic. See http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showpost.php?p=18895&postcount=17. At one time, dealers were being pressured to collect the use tax. Somewhere along the line that stopped and most dealers do not do that anymore. I wonder if some dealers collect the tax as sales technique to encourage gun buyers to not buy from a mail order company.
  22. No, when I want free legal advice I call a friend who used to be a prosecutor and is now a judge.

    Hi

BTW, congratulations to you and best wishes and condolences to Julie. I'd love to meet your friend. Just drop me a note and we'll see where I am at the time.
  24. I'd rather SCOTUS rule on it after we replace another justice or two. What makes anyone think the current court would rule in accordance with the Constitution? Alito is the only solid constitutionalist on the court right now. I suspect that SCOTUS may not even take the case if asked to do so. Fortunately, no one outside of the gun community has even heard of GOA.
