  1. With the budget crunch, it probably won't get better.
  2. I don't know when they will stop counting, but so far they have about 6.8 million downloads in 24 hours. Almost 6,000 downloads per minute.Considering that they wasted about 1-1/2 hours getting the site up yesterday, that's pretty amazing. http://downloadcounter.sj.mozilla.com/ for the current count. edit: Cutoff is apparently 11:16 a.m. PDT today
  3. Nah, just having some fun. Some of the geeks over at the nsane forum were going crazy because they couldn't get to the site to get the certificate. I think that's hilarious.
  4. I think they look pretty good. They are small enough that it doesn't require a lot of scrolling to get to the meat of the page, like on one board I frequent.
  5. Don't forget to get your download certificate at http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/certificate_form if you are into those things.
  6. You can do a download normally now at http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/.
  7. Yeah, they are having a bit of a problem right now. Thought that might happen. Maybe that's because a million folks or so are trying to download at the same time? I couldn't get to the add-ons page either. Maybe in a day or so?
  8. I went ahead and did an install. The installer said it was RC3 but the program says it is just 3.0 and that there are no updates. Apparently the RCs just don't report themselves with the RC status, at least in Windows. Love the bookmark search feature!
  9. Looks like it will work. It's one utility I can't live without.
  10. Eddie, were you running RC3?
  11. The same file (I think) has been available as RC3 at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-rc.html for some time. Actually, for Windows it was available as RC2, but they had to make a few changes recently on the Mac version because of some quirky bug (?) in the Mac OS. They did a work-around. My Firefox, on Windows, has not updated automatically nor is 3.0 final available via the update feature. I've been holding off to let the add-ons catch up with the application. I'm still not sure if RoboForm will work with 3.0. I'll find out later today. I know that adblock works.
  12. For those of you who have been waiting for the new version of Firefox, it will be available today at 1000 hours (10 a,m,) PDT from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/. See the countdown clock at http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?month=6&day=17&year=2008&hour=10&min=00&sec=00&p0=224. There is a nice video with some information at http://people.mozilla.com/~beltzner/overview-of-firefox3.swf.
  13. DATE CHANGE!!! We are back in Kingsport for this one at the range of Mark@Sea. But we need to change the date to Saturday July 26 - one week later than usual. Mark has an obligation for the previous Saturday. Here are directions for how to get there: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showpost.php?p=73999&postcount=57. I'm working on better directions for the Kingsport and Oak Ridge shoots. Coming soon to your favorite gun board!
  14. OK, I'll post the shoot as the 26th.
  15. And A-10 Warthogs, etc. are mightier than anything the revolutionaries will have. I don't care if they have 100 million people.
  16. Firefox 3 will be released this Tuesday. Firefox 3 Release Candidate 3 (apparently actually the final) is available now at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-rc.html. Please read the known issues at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0rc3/releasenotes/#issues. See this video for a quick overview of some of the changes: http://people.mozilla.com/~beltzner/overview-of-firefox3.swf It would probably be a good idea to backup your data. I suggest the free utility MozBackup at http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/
  17. Thanks for that reference. I had not read that one.
  18. Marty Fackler also says it is garbage. Their stuff is pure hokum. Even worse than Extreme Shock. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6940&postcount=54 Here is a comment I made on another board at http://www.hk94.com/hk/index.php?s=&showtopic=2141&view=findpost&p=17574 BTW, I'm not sure those links in the quote are good now.
  19. Actually, I have thought of this myself. More in terms that it is now impossible to defend ourselves from a tyrannical government as the founding fathers wanted than that being bad. But 2A doesn't say that is the only purpose of the amendment. Another purpose is let us train ourselves for military service. I would argue that letting us protect ourselves from those who would do us harm is also implied in the amendment. What they are doing is a fallacy of omission.
  20. Hey, that sounds good. I may have to change my luncheon plans. I was going to have hot dogs stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon, but this is tempting my palate. I'll have to do some calculations to see which will increase my cholesterol count and blood pressure more. A side story about Texas steaks. I have a friend who is stocky but really short. Maybe 5'2" or so. He went on vacation with his (first) wife and whey ended up somewhere in Texas at a hole in the wall restaurant. He ordered a steak, thinking it would be 10 ounces or so. They brought out the steak and it was hanging over the sides of the plate. So he asked the waitress if they had any A1 sauce for it. She looked at him and said in a deep Texas drawl, "Little feller', if we had steak sauce it would be on the table."
  21. Good deal. I caught some TV program yesterday by the NRA. Basically a TV version of their Armed Citizen stuff.
  22. I'll make one last off-topic comment about LEO practice. If we want to continue that, I guess we had better start another topic. I don't think LEOs in general are going to practice until their departments supply them with ammunition to do it and require X amount of training and practice time per quarter for them to keep their badge. But I don't think that will happen until departments are required to do that to maintain their certification.

I'm certainly not saying anything bad about the P3AT. I carry one daily as a hip pocket gun. A bunch of people have bought one at least partially on my recommendation. But I know people who simply can't pull the trigger on it and carry Bersas.
  24. I don't think the problem is that the user doesn't know how to handle the gun. I'd say that in most cases the NDer knows very well how to handle the gun. They just get careless. I still suspect it is because they know the gun so well, they go into "autopilot" mode instead of focusing on what they are doing. It would be interesting to interview the ND shooters and find out what they were thinking about. I think I know the answer. In the one case I witnessed a ND, the shooter was ex-military and ex-LEO. He had an XD that he had carried for quite a while. Glock before that. He was in a gun shop with the XD and decided to field strip it to show someone something about the gun. He dropped the magazine, then "dry-fired".... Oops, forgot to clear the chamber first. His explanation? "I just wasn't thinking." But his training was such that it was pointed in a safe direction. I've never seen him with a gun in his hand when that wasn't true. That could be worked on in training for a lot of people. I learned that from Roy Rogers as a kid. "Never point a gun at someone unless you intend to use it." As far as training goes, most LEOs I I know are pretty close to minimum standards on duty weapon practice. The departments won't spend the money on ammunition and the LEOs are so underpaid they won't buy ammunition to practice for the job. They would rather get the kids something for fun. I don't blame them.
