1. I dont think metal will be an issue. I have several rasp, files for knives round and bar mild steel for household stuff etc. I can also bring some leaf springs if anyone wants go home sore and blistered from to much heavy beating.
  2. Dang.... I never liked how cocky he was, but he was a damn good shot, and extremely fast. He will be missed by the shooting world
  3. Just so you guys no, bringing an anvil is not a must, it would just help. Im bringing some big rail, because my old man would die if I hauled the Kholswa across the state.
  4. And now you have two knives, ready for guards, handles, and final grind/sharpening
  5. So after we get it cut to length, in this case 13 3/4", we need to draw out a nice long hidden tang Then you gotta start pushing the tip out into a clip point And after hammering in the bevels, you have this to start you grind work One knife rough ground
  6. Im gonna do this thread so people can see a very small part of what goes into a hand forged knife. I done quiet a bit of work today. Thanks guys Ok so your gonna need a fire, which means you need fuel. Our fuel of choice is coal And your gonna need a forge to build the fire in And your need steel. My steel of choice for these is 1084 bar stock 1.5" x 1/4" 4 ft long So first thing to do is hot cut it using a hardy cutter and hammer
  7.
What type of event do you have in mind? A class, or just general forging? One day, or multiple?
Classes and a general hammer in. Sharing techniques and a beer, not really set classes, just showing each other a few different things, and getting some new people time with a hammer in hand. I was thinking either sat. or sat. and sun. But if I did two days I'd have to save the cash up for a hotel room or find a camp site, don't wanna drive 6 hours each day lol. Also it would have to be after the holidays so I have time to get the money saved for fuel.
  8. So, I promised everyone that came out here that I will eventually make my way out for a forging weekend out towards Nashville. BUt its gonna require everyones participation. We will need someones place to set up at, with either a gas or coal forge, or both, especially if one or two of you guys with small portables could bring them. I can bring a piece of rail, but the more anvils, the better. I can bring some hammers and tongs, but again the more, the better. So if you have any of the above available, please post here. And let me know if your interested.
  9. So Unclejak is making me a wool capote. I can't wait to get this thing, it looks like it'll be super warm. These are the pics he has sent me so far, and I'll be posting a full review in this thread once it is in hand. I'll let him give ya some specifics on building it, I just know I'm gonna enjoy the crap out of it. Keep in mind Unclejak is about 2-3" shorter than me, and probably 60-80 lbs lighter. Rough sewn Starting to really take shape. Let me know what you think, and hopefully Unclejak will be along to tell us more about assembly
  10.
I think warm weather and humidity are indicative of one another here.
You have never been to Arizona or New Mexico. I was in Yuma, AZ and it was 130 degreea with 50% humidity or something like that. Hot, but you could breath. Unlike the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Djibouti. It was 135 there and 98% humidity.....
  11.
LMAO!! Glad I could inspire.
Yeah I'm definetly stealing that idea. Start hunting flea markets and pawn shops for.brick hammers to turn into breaching hawks.
  12.
Something to make a really awesome knife with???

samurai sword? or at least the materials to make one! (since thats what you do and all)

Guess #1: A donut stick Guess #2: Some sort of cool steel

I would say that cool steel, also.

This was my first thought, too.
You guys got it. Its a 4 ft piece of 1/4" x 1.5" 1084 steel from New Jersey Steel baron. Half of it is going into a set of bowies for a member here, and the other half is going into 3-4 smaller tacticool projects with to much paracord. This is actually order number to, this project has been set back by several things, including a wrong order that ended up being 1/8th thick steel, not heavy enough for what I needed. Ah well, the build will continue on time
  13. UPS just dropped a package I've been waiting on. I'll post what it is here in a bit, just wanna here some guesses first
  14.
wow a bit harsh man....is everyone on this site going to be like this?? or is it just you? like it or not, this is just me...i am always cutting jokes and making people smile. guess that doesn't translate well over the net. my bad. ill stop
Probably just me. And I wasn't really trying to be harsh, it just seems like every time ya post something it comes from a "walkers" point of view. I'm not much of a joker, so thats my bad. It just got old after a few post
  15.
if i had feelings i would be very sad that so many of friends were dead.....so thanks for that. that Rick............................
The walker thing was funny the first few post. Now and its just getting old.....
  16. Shipped this morning. Very lil info to go off so I hope I did well
  17.
Looking great! That paracord on the second one looks familiar....
Well you did say to practice my wraps with iy. Lol
  18. If the neighbors can't tie him up and stop the harassment, they would bury that dog. I won't take a dog terriozing my stock. The owners get one warning. They should have consderied the containment issue before getting him.
  19.
Those look great. I really like bottom one. I like a smaller sturdy knife.
Thanks man, I'm trying to go to smaller blades instead of those big monsters.
  20. You've heard my opinion on the sharpening through PM. As far as the oils I don't use anything special on mine, usually a very small amount of 3 in 1 oil and keep it clean
  21.
Everyone should have a pic of a knife cut!
Its even better when its your blades ain't man? I know several of mine have tasted blood before they ever left my hands.
  22. These are two smaller ones that I made over the weekend, and my first work with the new grinder from Broomhead Medium size tanto, razor sharp 5.5" blade, 5" paracord wrapped handle, hand sanded to 600 grit. Let me know what you think Small everyday carry knife, 3.75" blade, 3.5" handle, handle Cobra braid wrapped, full convex grind, hand sanded to 600 grit

Thanks for being awesome friends and students gentleman.
