  1. For camping gear, just whatever is comfy for you guys. If you want a tent, then by all means, but it isn't a requirement, I'll be sleeping on the ground. Please bring some food with you, there are a few restaurants, but they are 5-10 miles away. As far as shooting, some shooting would be ok, but I'd rather not have a ton of shooting going on, as I do rent the land, and the owner lives on site. I just don't wanna disturb him to much. Also, any shooters will have to pick up there brass. I really hope you can make it, I look forward to meeting you guys.
  2. If you for any reason need to get ahold me on the 29th or 30th for directions or whatever, feel free to call or text me at 850-776-8205. I'd rather you pm or email me if its any day before then, but I'll be at home both days, so I can answer my cell immediately if I hear it. Thanks and hope to see lots of people there
  3. Events thread is up. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/forum/21-events-and-gatherings/
  4. Pellet gun would be my preferred option, I use .22 shorts off my back porch, but I live in a very rural neighborhood, and that is completely ok here. I'd love to have one of these for rabbit and squirrel suppers on the sly. http://www.airgundepot.com/benjamin-marauder-pcp-air-rifle--22-cal-repeater-1000-fps.html
  5. This is my home defense shotgun. I was goofing off at home with my wife showing her how our flak jackets worked, and she told me to grab the shotgun for a picture. After that I tried moving from room to room with it, something I have trained to do in MOUT towns with a full length M16A4, and let me tell you, it was a real bear to keep the gun up, proper sight picture, in a 1200 sq ft apartment. After that I started training with some guys out at the range, practicing until I was a lot more proficent, but taking the time to do that was the biggest eye opener every. I guess what I'm saying is, no matter what you end up with, practice, practice, practice, then practice some more, until every move with the weapon, including reloads, is as natural as breathing. See, this is what happens when the government gives Marines $1,000's in military gear, and to much down time between deployments to play with it.
  6. Yeah I use an 18" on my HD shotgun as well. Any classes you can take help, its a lot harder to move trhough tight quarters with any kid of long arm than people think.
  7. Meh the ka-chunk thing is overrated. I prefer not to give any potential threat a loud audible signal to zero in on. Mine stays loaded with one in the chamber and safety on. Like you said, everyone has their own opinon on what works best for them.
  8. It really depends on the layout of the house. As far as the shot spreading, from my testing and patterning, even at what would be long range self defense ranges of 20-30 yds 00 buck did not spread enough to worry about a wide spray pattern out of my 500 with a 18.5 barrel and IC choke. My personal opinon, there is no fight stopper in the world like a short barrelled shotgun loaded with reduceded recoil 00 buckshot. A handgun is to give me a fighting chance at getting to a long gun, not a primary self defense weapon given any other choice.
  9. My suggestions on the gun would be this. If you are refering to the pistol grip only, I would highly advise against it. It is very very hard to be accurate with a pistol grip only. Buy a pistol grip/shoulder stock combo. More control, better accuracy, more comfort. A shotgun isn't m as point and shoot as its made out to be. You still need to practice and pattern different loads to learn what works best for you. For carrying, your allowed to carry an unloaded long gun in the car with no case. Just make sure the ammo is seperated. Like shotgun in the trunk, ammo in the glove box, something like that. Anyways, welcome to the addiction of gun ownership, I hope you get the answers your needing here.
  10. Coors light and Appalachian Apple pie for me, if you get my drift
  11. Fried pork chops, Tomato corn and okra mix, green beans, mashed taters, and homemade baked cheese sticks. Working on beer number 3 for dessert.
  12. We are having a primitive survival camp/class/get together at my place this month. I'll be starting up the campfire around 6:00 pm Fri. June 29th, and we will be camping that night, and having class the next day. I know Timestepper is gonna bring some hawks and knives to show how to throw, and WD-40 is gonna teach hide-tanning, and both will be teaching a lot of cool frontier living style stuff. So anyways, Heres the important stuff. What: Primitive living class When: 6:00 pm June 29th - Late afternoon/early evening June 30th Where: My place, 225 George Jones Rd Oliver Springs, TN 37840 Rules #1 Take out anything you bring in. I'll have trash bags onsite, but please don't trash the field #2 No shooting after 10:00 pm or before 8:00 am. I do have neighbors a lil ways away, and don't want to be a nuisance. #3 Close any gate you have to open on the way to camp. There will be cows around, so make sure gates stay closed #4 Have a good time. Its an enjoyable event. Get tired of classes? Throw a fishing line in. Keep it fun What to bring #1 Bag lunch for sat. I'm gonna bring sardines, and crackers. I would suggest something similar. #2 Comfy old clothes. It is camping, you will get dirty lol #3 Breakfast foods to throw in the pile for sat. morning. (See list started in post 15) #4 Camping gear. I'll be in a sleeping bag, but tents are welcome too. #5 A fishing pole if you'd like. We are right on the creek bank. Hope to see you there, please let us know if your attending.
  13. Getting excited for this to go down. I can't wait to sit around the camp fire with you guys and swap lies, and I might even be able to dig up a jug from somewhere. If your reading this, and haven't made up your mind about coming, then let me personally send out an invitation to you. We promise its gonna be a good time, and you might even learn a thing or two.
  14. Yourselves!!! i thought it would be interesting to be able to put a face with a screen name. So if your up to it, post a recent picture of your mug for the world to see. This should be interesting to see what everyone looks like.... This is me, and my big buddy Cooper about a month ago
  15. I open carry pretty often, but it really depends on where I am. I live in a rural community, and open carry is pretty normal around my area. Now if I was in the middle of Nashville, I probably wouldn't open carry a .44 magnum, but I wouldn't have an issue if my Taurus popped out from under my shirt.
  16. Where abouts in Harriman do you live? I live over off Old Harriman highway behind Jonesville methodist, I do believe we might live fairly close to each other. And welcome this is a great site.
  17. As someone who has been in a bad situation, sending rounds down range, I still have no idea how I would react. The billy badasses are fine and dandy, but I've been stacked on a door, heart thumping, and knowing whats coming, and its still hard to put accurate rounds down range and know when to stop. If I am laying in bed, and get woken up at 3:00 am by my dogs flipping out, sounds of an intruder, there will be no warning, verbal or otherwise. I hope I can focus enough to handle the situation appropriately. I can tell you right now the bravado won't help you and the cool, calculated failure to stop drills, etc are 10 million times harder when faced with an immediate threat. Just my two cents, I truely hope no one on this forum ever has to find out first hand how they would react.
  18. Well ita getting close so we have to set a date. I'm gonna go forward with the 30th. So we will be meeting anytime after 5:00 pm Fri. June 29th for those that would like to camp. If your coming to the event saturday lets say show up at 8:00 am sat. morning June 30th. Please bring fishing gear if youd like to fish the creek we are staying next too. Also bring camping gear (bedroll, sleeping bag, tent if thats your thing , food for the camp fire, and a good attitude. We will be having knife and hawk throwing, hide tanning, and other stuff. I hope to see everyone who can make it there. The address is 225 George jones rd oliver springs tn 37840. If you get lost or need directions pm me on here or call 850-776-8205. Send me a text first if possible, i dont usually answer numbers I dont know if Im at all busy. Thanks
  19. I feel your pain. I started with glasses at 4, and my last eye appointment my vision was 20/1200 or -8.75 in both eyes. I can't read a book farther than 3 inches from my face without contacts. And my dad has glacoma so thats something else I get to worry about as I age.
  20. I wanna go out the same way I came in. Kicking, screaming, and covered in someone elses blood.
  21. He can fish right off the bank of the creek we will be camping by.
  22. I love tapatio. Ive eaten some hot stuff before, especially in Thailand and Japan. That said i refrain from stuff that burns that bad anymore because it usually gives me heartburn like a mother. I got tired of not being able to sleep at night at the age of 23 and decided to make some cuisne changes. I do understand the rush though
  23. I love the sackett books the best. Probably since they are from the mountains of TN so I feel I can relate better. Im honestly more of a william johnstone mountain man series person, preferring the first mountain man Preacher books.
  24. Ok I'll keep it in mind. I don't need an exact count, just a decent idea.
  25. Yes, please get your votes in as soon as you can. No later than June 15th to give everyone time to make plans please. We will go with the date that has the highest number of votes plain and simple. So if you plan to attend, please vote soon, and start getting your supplies ready for a hellasish shindig
