  1. Dang! I only found out that you could even do it a couple years ago! I just paid for my license and hunted, never looked into all the options we have. Do you have a better understanding of the points? So if you put in for hunts and don’t get drawn, then you get preference points. But if you happen to get drawn then you don’t get any preference points wether you go on the hunt you’re awarded or not right? I’m mainly asking because for Presidents Island you apparently have to have 10 or so to even get drawn for antlered hunt from what I hear. So I guess you’d just have to keep applying for PI and wait until your points add up because if you put in for other hunts and get drawn then you’re not collecting points?
  2. I got drawn for Cheatham gun and muzzleloader. I’ve never even been there although I know where it is. I’m pretty excited to hunt a new place. Must have four points on one side or minimum 15” spread so it should be a good buck or none. It’ll be nice to have a change of scenery. Anyone get drawn for anything? Also anyone hunted Cheatham before? Figure I’m gonna have to walk a ways to get away from the crowd.
  3. Well it appears deer season began and I didn’t remember to post pics like I said I would. I have to sign up with Imgur and I’ll get some on here. I ended up buying another set of Hawk Helium sticks last year. Glad I did because they’re manufactured seasonally! This year I bought a Hawk Helium XL hang on stand, a Lone Wolf Alpha II and a set of Lone Wolf climbing sticks. I’m really liking the hang on/sticks setups!
  4. Yeah I wouldn’t mind doing it myself if it was cooler and my garage was setup for the process. But since it’s not I definitely don’t want to be trying to do it outside or just inside the door of the garage if it’s 95 degrees. I’ve about got myself convinced that it’s okay to miss the velvet opportunity. Since I still have yet to get a buck with a bow, I’d like to make sure I have every advantage for success. I do wish everyone who does go the best of luck and I’ll be rooting for good harvests! I’m just as excited as every year to get out opening day of archery with my Mathews!!
  5. Well boys and girls I believe I’ll be passing on the velvet hunt as bad as it pains me to do so. I’ve yet to find a processor that will be open for that weekend. Too many possibilities that could lead to ruining deer meat and/or the velvet rack being damaged while trying to get the deer taken care of. If I had a cooler in the garage I may risk it, but even then I’m worried about how hot it may be and the time it may possibly take to get the harvest back home. I know it sounds pessimistic but i think I’d rather wait until bow opens and not have to worry about it. I was really surprised that nobody is open to do processing. I guess because it’s last minute?
  6. I’ve always wanted to hunt Big Southfork. I used to hike and camp up there back in my early 20’s.
  7. Sorry to hear that! I want to try to hunt some public land this year for a couple of reasons. One, different scenery and chances at new deer. Two, practice with my new run and gun setups and figure out what I like and don’t like. I don’t like having people walk in on me so I’ll have to do some hiking for sure!
  8. I’m wearing my snake boots when I go out and definitely watching when I move my hand to the ground to grab straps and such. Haven’t come up on any yet but I know they’re out there. Glad you didn’t step on that dang cotton mouth!
  9. Thanks, I’m not a turkey hunter, however I like seeing them as well. I believe he’s a 3 1/2 as well. If he makes it another year he’ll be a stud!
  10. Hey everyone! Here's this weeks footage highlights. The cooler weather sure had them moving!
  11. Never thought to try green beans, may see if Roman likes them.
  12. Thank you! Good luck with Darby’s diet. We don’t have a dog that has a problem with dry dog food so we got it easy I think. I’d say the sweet potato would probably be a welcome item for Darby, let us know how it turns out.
  13. Thank you! He is feeling close to normal this evening I think. He is definitely very much improved over the last 24 hours. Matter of fact he just brought his tennis ball (the small one) over here and laid at my feet while I’m typing this
  14. Indeed they do! It hurts when they hurt for sure. He’s my shadow anywhere I go. My wife stopped at PetSmart a few minutes ago and picked him up a tennis ball that’s the size of a cantaloupe almost. He can barely carry it but he’s loving that thing. Sure am happier watching him tonight.
  15. Thanks Prag! I think the meds are helping already. Just got home a little while ago and he seems to have a little more spunk thank today at lunch. Really wish I knew what happened so I could keep it from m happening again though. Going to keep him on all the meds just to be sure he fully recovers. Last night was scary for sure!
  16. I haven’t kept this thread up to date like I’d planned on doing but please keep my big feller Roman in your thoughts and prayers. He was really sick last night when my wife got home. Vet gave him fluids last night and has him on meds and boiled chicken and rice diet until he gets better. Sure do love this big guy, he has been attached at me or the wife’s hip even more than usual. Hoping that he has more energy when we get home tonight.
  17. Disclaimer: Sorry for the typos in the 2nd video. I was paying way more attention to music and editing clips and forgot to watch for my fast typing errors. Here's a couple videos from this week. One is some highlights of the mean doe that keeps all the young bucks in line. It's common for her to fend them off for close to a dang hour just to keep them from eating while she is. Heck, if she shared she'd be full in 10 minutes and on her way, but OH NO! Can't do that! Lol The other video also stars the mean doe a few times but is a bit of everything this week. There is another surprise guest (guests) this week. I know y'all will enjoy seeing that part for sure. P.S. it's not the nasty coyote either Anyway, I hope y'all enjoy it.
  18. Yeah I wasn’t sure if it was just the picture or if it was really that dark colored. Looks like he’s eating good. I have not had near as many turkey, coon, or crows in my cams this year since I haven’t put any corn out. I’m sure if I had, there’d be tons of each on there again. I wonder what all I missed out on all those years I wouldn’t run cameras. I had no idea how fun and informative they were.
  19. It’s not bad at all. As far as benefit of running big old flashlights? I guess that would be up to the individual. I hate to trash anything so I want to convert mine as well even if just to use in the garage or backup light to my truck light. ABN Maglite Flashlight Replacement Conversion Kit Upgrade Bulb, LED D and C 2-3 Cell 220 Lumens of Bright White Light https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0195I3XA6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Pz-sBbZ0BHTMF
  20. I haven’t done it yet but here’s a video with comparison after putting LED in.
  21. Thank you! I guess the tomato dinner was the price of admission for you getting to see them lol. Cool pictures, but hate they got your plants.
  22. First time seeing them this year but I think that 8 may be one I let walk last year before his left side fell off. If it is, I'm sure glad I passed on him. I was after a big 8 last year but I don't think he's shown up yet because he was ridiculously tall, just needed more width. As hard as it was passing everything last year, I think it was well worth the agony lol.
  23. Man it was a great week to check cameras! Check it out and hope y'all are getting some good pictures as well. A little over a month and I'll be up in a lock on hoping a velvet monster strolls through. I hung another Millennium m100u this morning and have a Hawk Helium XL stand on the way for the backside of the property.
  24. Thanks! I am always excited on the drive out to check them. Never know what you’re going I see.
