  1. Blatantly obvious. "Militia being necessary to the security of a free state" is only reason mentioned, so it obviously was reason they felt the need to mention firearms at all. It's fortunate that this is what has also allowed us (to a certain degree) to keep and bear arms for other purposes. But they would have seen that as an unalienable right, simply part of life and liberty. - OS
  2. Actually (and and certainly not alone) disagree that the 2nd had anything to do with normal self defense, hunting, sport shooting or the like. It is only there so that the populace can band together collectively to overthrow enemies from without or tyranny from within. Fortunately it has also (sort of) guaranteed that (some) individuals may own (some types) of firearms (under certain conditions) and that (some, under certain conditions) may also bear them. But the founders didn't put that in there so you can defend yourself against a robber, or shoot deer, or go to a turkey shoot for prizes, or plink in your back yard. They didn't conceive of the future need for such a declaration for those purposes, anymore than they would have made an amendment protecting hoes, axes, knives, or fishing poles. (wish they had also mentioned knives, though). - OS
  3. Yeah, everything is a trade off still in this regard. When you "push" film you increase "grain". Same with digital increases "noise". Somewhat I guess related to the Heisenberg thing is the "circle of confusion" and how it relates to perception of sharp/blur in depth of field. Btw, the "blur" or "fuzz" itself created by depth of field has its own characteristics and look, collectively referred to as "bokeh". Wiki is down for protest, but here's a decent synopsis: Bokeh - OS
  4. Well, that's true too, but with equal focal lengths and f/stops, most all digicams will still give more depth of field than a 35mm film cam. (Actually, I haven't kept up with higher end ones in regard to sensor sizes, may not be true with the better SLR digicams now?) This can be quite helpful in some situations (macro extreme closeups) but quite frustrating in others (blurring out beyond just the pretty lady sitting on fence). - OS
  5. Always true, but in vast majority of digital cams, for tech reasons related to the senor size, the depth of field is greater at any given f/stop than with a 35mm film camera. Matter of fact, even shooting wide open (lowest f/stop, widest aperture), you often can't fuzz out the background as much as you'd like. But that's why there's Photoshop. - OS
  6. If you must shoot at lower shutter speeds (like under 1/100 sec) get a monopod to at least take away most of the camera movement that YOU create. Action will still blur but at least stable objects will be sharp. - OS
  7. Yeah, GOP is gonna nominate the man who lost to the man who lost to Obama in '08. Sure makes me feel all optimistic and all about both the election, and the future. Then again, that's about where the electorate is, just slightly right of center. Prob is the center is way left of where it used to be. - OS
  8. Sad fact is the overall electorate of this country is a helluva lot closer to Obama than Paul. If GOP somehow circumvented all their rules and handed nomination of RP, he wouldn't carry a handful of states in the general election, if that. Even the nationwide ABO sentiment isn't that strong. Of course, the GOP is gonna nominate a man who lost to the man who lost to Obama in '08. So it has got that going for it. - OS
  9. See Bkelm's response. You shouldn't have mentioned firearm in the case of sending a slide, it is not a firearm. Actually could have sent it USPS, cheaper for something of that weight. UPS will generally tell you that you must ship an actual firearm through their main hub. However, if you can generate your own UPS label (can open account through PayPal as seller or find someone else with one), you can dump it at any UPS store, no questions asked. According to UPS terms of service, handguns must be sent overnight, long guns may be sent ground. Note this is not a law, only UPS rules. - OS
  10. Yeah, but I must admit, I've never hear of internal primer failure before. - OS

    New XDS

Funny how in a way we've come full circle back to a .45 six shooter. - OS
  12. NM, went on a tangent
  13. If you'll print label and pay online ('Click 'n Ship), you just dump the thing on the end of the counter and out the door, no interaction required. You can do Priority with it, but not some other classes. If you have eBay seller account you can use PayPal to generate and pay any USPS class online and print the label. Again, notification to any carrier is only required if you are sending to a NON LICENSE HOLDER. - OS
  14. I couldn't afford to shoot .22 Mag like I can 22LR , that pistola has little attraction for me. - OS
  15. No, you don't. Only have to notify via federal law if it is going to a non license holder. BATF "faq" on site has always been dead wrong. - OS
  16. Ring ring, hey thar Mabel, this is China, can ye connect me with Jeb? - OS
  17. Only reason RussP first came to TGO. Very first post was re Kwik, shortly after K was banned on opencarry, and most since have been. RussP has perhaps been Kwik's most frequent nemesis on any number of forums. - OS
  18. Ah, but accurarcy difference -- with the no true butt stock ala the Kwik approach you're just another spray and pray terrorist rather than a precision patriot commando. - OS
  19. Just a note: "inox" is a general term (mostly European) for stainless steel. Actually comes from the French "acier inoxydable". - OS
  20. Sounds as though RP is getting all the coverage he wants tonight in Myrtle Beach..sounds like more boos than yeas from his foreign policy comments. - OS

    TEBOWIE

Me too. You can kill most anyone under OT justice. Fortunately, misspelling Old Testament isn't among them AFAIK. - OS
  22. With folding stock, you can stash it in a back pack or computer bag and carry it every day. Illegally, but what the hey. - OS
  23. Except that you can now carry in bars and not just restaurants. You know, those places that serve booze but not food. - OS

This is so sacrilegious, Jimmy Fallon will burn in hell and Rick Sanctitorum will make this against the law when he's president. - OS
