  1. Not if you have the cellular backup installed. Alarm companies have this as an option.
  2. If you really want to get into the subject. There is a thread in the Legal Section on AR15.com that is 23 pages long. A lot of spirited debate in it. The funny thing is, there are even some manufacturers/dealers that posted in the thread that don't know the law. Of course, the ATF is very good in keeping everybody guessing, as they can't seem to give a definitive answer to anybody's question. The fact remains that a M16 carrier (by itself) is not going to cause any problems in the workings of the rifle, and there is no law that prohibits their installation in AR15s. As noted in the M4Carbine thread, some AR15 manufacturers ship their rifles from the factory with M16 carriers. My LMT came that way.
  3. It will not cause a double, and it is perfectly legal to use. I run M16 carriers in both my ARs. Just stay away from M16 FCGs.
  4. Thanks. I have been thinking about doing that when my current laptop gives up the ghost. Right now, I would rather spend less than $100 to get my older laptop running than spending $1K+ on a MacBook.
  5. Thanks to everybody for the suggestions. I have not made up my mind about the dual OS yet, but I will probably bump up the storage capacity, as things are pretty inexpensive these days. I have another question: I did a Google search of my old hard drive's model number, and it was listed as being a Ultra ATA (ATA-100) drive. I see drives listed as ATA and SATA. Are these compatable? I don't want to order a new drive, and it have a different set of pin connectors.
  6. I don't believe that is correct. ATF Ruling 85-10 clearly states that C&R status is only extended to firearms "in their original military configuration." Frames and receivers alone do not carry the C&R status, but the firearm as a whole does; as long as it is in it's original configuration. Example: if you swap the original wood stock of a C&R SKS with a synthetic stock, the SKS would lose it's C&R status, even though the frame/receiver is still the same. From what I have read, adding a scope to a C&R weapon does not seem to affect it's status. The problem seems to arise when you remove something from the original configuration, and replace it with something unlike the original.
  7. The hard drive on my older laptop (Dell Inspiron 8200) is acting up. It is making some weird clicking noises that last a few seconds, and the computer freezes up during this, but returns to normal after the clicking stops. This happens a couple of times per minute. I have no idea what is going on. Anyway, this is my older laptop, and I only use it for internet access and some general computing. No gaming. So, I thought about getting a new hard drive and installing the Ubuntu OS everyone is raving about, and maybe partitioning the drive with XP. The old drive is a Toshiba 2.5", 40GB, Ultra ATA, 5400rpm. Any suggestions for a decent hard drive in those specs? Should I stick with Toshiba? Any opinions on Western Digital or Seagate drives? Any help is appreciated.
  8. I get those FredPAC emails. I just delete them. :-\
  9. I am with you on Thompson. I had a lot of hope when announced his candidacy. Then, once he got out on the campaign trail, he acted like he did not want to campaign. He acted like he did not even want to be President. He acted completely indifferent to the whole process. I have no idea why he even got in the race. It was sad. I don't think he was paid off, blackmailed or threatened. I think he was just a dud to begin with.
  10. CProducts makes good mags, and the AIM price is excellent for mags w/Magpul followers. Also, you may check 44Mag.com. They have an great selection of AR mags, and they have good prices.
  11. McCain is certainly doing better than in the first debate. I think I like this "town hall" style better than standing at a podium.
  12. I would be in for 2 or 3 of the patches of each kind (velcro/non-velcro). Subdued patches would be nice as well.
  13. Well, I never got a response to my email that I sent to one of those companies. I still have no idea why some companies restrict shipping, or what law or regulation they are basing this on.
  14. AOW transfers on a Form 4 only require a $5 tax stamp. If your are building an AOW on a Form 1, then I believe you have to pay for the $200 tax stamp. AOW = Any Other Weapon. It is just another class of NFA weapons that do not readily fit in the other catagories. Examples or AOW: pen gun, cane gun, pistols with vertical foregrip, an SBS without a shoulder stock (smooth-bore handgun), wallet guns, etc...
  15. Yes, it will work with EOTechs. I have them on my AR w/EOTech 552. Works just fine. I don't see anything on webpage for the LMT rear sight that says it is for Aimpoint.
  16. I like that idea. All the more reason to be prepared.
  17. I am glad his last wishes were able to be carried out. RIP.
  18. The law on NFA weapons in TN is really messed up. Technically, the law reads that NFA weapons (SBR, SBS, machineguns, etc...) are illegal in TN. The fact that they are legally registered in ATF's NFRTR is only a defense to prosecution. The law really needs to be rewritten. Most everybody seems to understand the true meaning of the law, but I guess TWRA interprets the law in it's literal sense.
  19. Especially the one standing on the left.
