  1. My gun would be less than about 5 feet away from me. If there is a suspicious looking car or someone suspicious even near my house, my dog would let me know. By that time, i would already have one in my hand. And if someone wanted to act crazy and do a drive by because i do live in memphis, they better be ready to go to battle because they will get shot at 2 blocks away both ways outside my cove. I am grateful i live in a cove because its one way in and one way out .
  2. To the original question, i would personally keep hunting that stand unless there is a lot of hunting pressure that deer are aware of. We have three stands located on our property and they are all permanent stands. Midway into gun season i've seen deer come out of the woods and look into the stand first before they cross. I have harvested 6 deer from only one of the stand this season already. Now i wouldn't field dress a deer too close to a stand because i wouldn't want coyotes to be around there scaring away the deer. And to the person who posted that deer are dumb, i have seen a deer watching me and a smaller deer around my stand before believe it or not. Alot of the mature bucks know when hunters leave the woods and when they enter. Hell i have even seen mature bucks bedded right beside a house off in the thicket before. I saw him on my way out of the woods when i was walking along a logging road. But every deer is different. I have shot 3 does at one time before. After i hit the first one, he fell instantly and the other two took a few steps back near the edge of the woods to watch the fallen one which gave me a chance to dropped another one. And then after the second fell the third one bounced off closer into the woods and was watching his comrade kicking on the ground right before i shot the third one too.
  3. Thanks to everyone for the input. I have come to the conclusion that i was simply just irritated that morning. It is indeed the holidays and if people and their family want to get together and shoot then so be it . It is their property and they have every right to shoot just as I have every right to hunt on my property. After all this is America . Happy Holidays
  4. I do apologize for ranting y'all. Anyone else have this kind of problem?
  5. I was out hunting on my family's property this morning and around 10:30 a.m I hear these people on the adjacent property riding ATV and shooting like they're crazy. It sounded like an Ar-15. The kids must have fired off 200-300 rounds, not to mention rapid firing and bump firing. But them shooting is not the problem. Them shooting the way they were DURING deer season is a HUGE problem! I mean it is common sense and courteous to know that you should not be making that kind of ruckus during season. So that ended my morning early and pissed me off! I talked to the neighbor across the street and she told me that the people's property where the noise was coming from were having people over for the holiday season.
  6. I would use a cage trap or bait and shoot them if they are that much of a nuisance. The problem with using a cage trap is that they do not die after they get trapped in. I used to trap the ones around my house when i was younger. Or you could trap and release them elsewhere but that would be too trouble some. You said that there are nuts and stuff around your yard so getting them to come wouldn't be a problem. I would wait for them patiently in the morning to come out and then pop them. Oh yeah and city squirrels are fine to eat. I've had them before . The majority of them eat most of the same things as squirrels in the country.
  7. Wow i can't believe the secret service didn't powerdrive or slam the guy for throwing the shoes. Bush does have amazing reactions though hahaha. They should have at least shot the perpetrator with a taser.
  8. Well i live in Memphis and i can tell you first and forehand that there is ALOT of racism from black people here. Ooops excuse me I meant Afircan-Americans.....yeah that's right because it would be offensive to describe them as black . But for alot of blacks to call that man white or yellow or some other adjective to describe his or her color is totally fine. This is . But anywho lets not focus on name calling here. But c'mon i mean really. I reside in Memphis and it doesn't take that far of a drive to some parts of mid-town or other parts of town to see some of the most ghetto and rundown, illiterate, incompetent, ignorant crack infested poeple living in what used to be decent neighborhoods until they moved in. And man are some of the people just the dumbest in the world. Hell i bet No matter of fact i know that these folks do not have jobs and are dealing and smoking drugs. Okay i will now. But by no means am i a racist......i just hate really really dumb people who are good for nothing to society:drama:
  9. Well....i didn't go this morning. I figured with the way the storm was in town that i should wait until it blows over. It was really rough last night. Oh well.... there is one bright side and that is the forecast for this weekend should be nice . I am loading the truck tonight and heading out friday morning! Good luck to all
  10. What do y'all think about hunting thursday morning after this system blows through? Do y'all reckon the deer will move or stay bunkered down. I heard the winds near my hunting area is gonna be blowing at about 11mph on and off. But the wind direction is pretty stable. Scattered showers here and there. Or do you think it might be a better idea to wait until Friday morning? The thing is, i would like to get a start to go back into the woods before the weekend when the pressure increases.
  11. Personally i have never shot the Sig P6 so i couldn't give you my opinion there. However i do have a Ruger p95dc. Very very reliable gun. Eats almost everything i shoot. In terms of aesthetics, the Ruger is kinda bulky but don't over analyze that. A little on the large for conceal carry. But It's a good weapon. Way better than a lowpoint or keltec
  12. I thought this post was old but oh well since it's resurrected i might as well add. Here's my deer rifle. SigArms SHR970 30-06 With a winchester scope and luminated crosshair....not that i ever use it
  13. In case you get jumped by some deer and they pull acorns on you
  14. A friend of mine's son who's hunting at the same property i'm hunting in uses a Ruger mini 14 to hunt. The rifle shoots .223 ammo. I believe he's using it for the light recoil and he was able to get a doe wednesday evening. If you do hunt with your AR, be sure you have proper optics for a humane kill. And DO NOT use FMJ
  15. I put both no trespassing and no hunting sign out on the property. But i still hunt there. I would assume that no trespassing should cover it.
  16. I placed some signs up on the private property that i hunt on in Mcnairy County. But it seems that after a few years or so the sign will fade. I need to put some more up. But i haven't had any real problems with trespassers near there. You did the right thing with contacting TWRA. Getting a sign like this one might help too.
  17. I got into the woods before the break of dawn Saturday morning around 6 a.m. It sure was freezing. I was dragging a doe-in-estrus scent drag to the stand, and walked along around my stand. Not long after i got situated, i heard something running up behind me. Didn't get a chance to see it. Later on, i saw a big body spike come out near a creek about 80 yards away. Allowed it to pass. Not much action after that. Heard gumshots to the distance all around me between 7 to 10 a.m. Stayed in the stand until noon. Went back into the woods around 2 p.m. Saw a couple of does 100 yards or so along the edge of the woods and watched them a bit before sunset. Hunted this morning and didn't see anything. Too much pressure. I might go to Weakly County and hunt with my cousin during the weekdays.
