  1. Those of you who carry a Ruger SP101...what holster do you carry it in? I will be getting one soon. (BTW...I am more apt to carry OWB than IWB. Might carry IWB, too)
  2. That's my reasoning. That and pretty much everyone (even Wal Mart) carry .357 bullets. I can shoot .38s for plinking. I've actually shot a box of 125 gr .357 bullets with a rental SP101, and didn't do too bad. I know I will need to practice, but that will be the fun part.
  3. Anyone have any experience with it? I noticed the Ruger SP101 is available in .357, .327 Federal and .38. I know about the .357 and the .38, and their ammo is pretty common anywhere you go. Is .327 ammo readily available? I've never seen it at Bass Pro, Wal Mart, etc (then again, I've never paid attention to it, either)...but I've seen .357 and .38 ammo there. I've looked at the ballistics...it looks like it's close to a .357, and it's more powerful than a .38. Interesting.
  4. I like Buck, Case and Benchmade knives. For my hunting, I have a Case Light Hunter, and two Buck Lite Max (one small, one large) For carry, I like my Benchmade Pika II...I have one serrated, one plain blade. I also have a Buck BLW I carry from time to time. And a case Texas Jack pocketknife I carry occasionally.
  5. First of all, a deer, seeing as how I didn't kill one last year. Otherwise, black bear, wild hog, elk and moose are on the list...as well as a coyote.
  6. I like hunting, but I like fishing more. I'm not picky, I'll fish for anything that swims. Having said that, I like fishing for trout, crappie and bass the most.
  7. I don't practice as near as much as I should.

    Ruger SP101 Review

Congrats on the SP101. I qualified for my HCP with the SP101, shooting .38 bullets. I did a lot better than I thought I would! The SP101 will be my next handgun purchase.
  10. I am going to the Smoky Mountains in a few weeks. I suppose that after reading this I should leave the gun at home.
  11. I qualified for my handgun permit with a SP101. I shot .38s through it and it wasn't that bad, considering I hadn't shot handguns that much. I was actually going to get one until I shot the XDSC9. The SP101 will definitely be my next handgun purchase.
  12. My wife gets annoyed when I carry and we decide to go out to get something to eat. When we start going over our options, I have to name places that DON'T serve alcohol....and she starts naming off places that DO. I refuse to leave my gun in the car, so we either go somewhere else, go home, or drop my gun off and take chances.
  13. Another vote for the Ruger SP101; I used one to qualify for my handgun permit and liked it!. I don't have one yet, but that will be my next handgun purchase.
  14. I carry either my Benchmade Pika II, My Buck Bantam BLW, or my Gerber EZ out. They are comfortable for me to carry and use. I don't usually carry a flashlight, but I have 3 of the Coleman LED flashlights that I keep around. One of them is 115 lumens, the other two are 75 lumens. They are small enough to keep around without being bulky, and they are bright.
  15. I use the Don Humes JIT slide holster. I like it, it fits close to my body. My first newbie holster was a Blackhawk Serpa. Didn't know any better, and was told that was what the cops used. I liked the retention feature on it, so I got it. After wearing a few times, I decided it was too bulky. It was too late to take it back, so I'll keep it and rig it up somewhere.
  16. Never open, unless I'm at home. I carry OWB covered by an untucked shirt.
  17. On a chain around my neck, in one of those ID holders. Acutally, I carry it in my wallet.
  18. I like mine. It's easy and comfortable to shoot. It conceals easily. The XD SC was my first handgun purchase since the Clinton Administration...think how long ago THAT was. And I hadn't shot handguns in several months. I rented the XD at a local range and liked it so much, that I changed my mind from getting another handgun to getting the XD.
  19. Render aid on a BG who tried to harm me? Not gonna happen.
  20. +1 for the XD. It was my first serious handgun purchase, and that was a year ago. I'm glad I tried one out, I did well enough that I HAD to get the XD. If I had gotten something else, it'd be like settling for something, and wondering "what if" I had gotten the XD.
  21. Only 5? My bare minimum battery would be: 1. 12 gauge shotgun (Mossberg 500) 2. Semi Auto handgun (XDSC 9) 3. Revolver (Ruger SP101 357 mag) 4. Bolt action rifle (I have Remington 700 in 7 mag...but 270 or 30.06 would also work) 5. 22LR The only ones I don't have are the .22 and the revolver. I'm building my collection slowly but surely.
  22. Anyone know what the status for carrying is there? Is it posted?
  23. I guess I will be carrying a copy of the TCA with me. I will not leave my gun in the truck, no need in leaving something lying around waiting to get stolen. If the place isn't posted properly, I might enter anyways and hope I don't get found out. If I do, I'll just leave, simple as that. Looks like I might be eating at home more. I'm no Chef Boyardee, but I don't go hungy, either. There's nothing that the restraunts serve that I can't find a recipe online and make myself (while carrying open)!
  24. My family and I went to a local catfish restraunt. As we were leaving, my brother asked the cashier if we were going to be able to bring our guns in on July 14th. The cashier didn't look like she had a clue, and I spoke up, saying he was just kidding and got him out of there. I noticed on the way out that it was NOT posted. I asked him what he was thinking and why he did that...no sense in drawing attention to the fact the one of us might carry a gun in the place (we weren't, they serve alcohol). He stated that he WANTED them to post and prohibit guns in the restraunt. Funny thing is, he has a carry permit! I love my brother, but he can be a bonehead sometimes!
