  1.   The fact is the people who need the training most are likely the people who will find the cheapest course offered that meets the requires.  The fact is people who are most likely to take the full blown course would have taken the full blown course required or not.  When I decided that firing a gun looked like fun watching some TV show the first thing I did was sign up for an optional course to make sure I didn't shot myself in the foot or someone else.  Was I required to no.  Did I take a course yes.  I think those required course if anything have the opposite effect when I got my Utah out of state permit I attended a basic class that covered just what had to be covered.  What It covered things like were you couldn't carry and that you should check the local laws of your state.  A lot of "common sense stuff".  The only interesting stuff was about carrying but that was done after getting all the state wide stuff done and there was still some time left before the min hours were meet.  Did that class really make anyone safer when they are caring not really.   Thanks Robert
  2.   New Hampshir and Arizona both have CC carry and how many people have been shot in the back of the head because someone carried that didn't know how to shot and killed someone.  Lets see there was questionable shot in Florida and it made national headlines for weeks.  A case like that would be talked about for years upon years in the media yet I haven't even seen a blip on something like that.  In theory I could get hit in the head with a toilet seat falling from a space station but I don't think it will happen to anyone in the near future.   Thanks Robert
  3.   As an MD resident Maryland transport laws are actually about the same as the feds.  Keep the guns and Ammo apart.  I have been pulled over for a ticket for a few times and have never been asked if I had a weapon in the vehicle despite MD state knowing I have several Handguns and from what I can tell our NFA rules are actually better then TN.  There are Asshole Cops everywhere just remember MD doesn't allow CCW based on any permit other then there own permit.
  4.   I live in Maryland and over the last few years the gun shops have all reported a large number of first time buyers.  Huge numbers.   Thanks Robert

    Glock Teaser

I wonder if this means they are revamping or changing the spring on the G4 or if they are going to a G5 design. Thanks Robert
  6.   Yea another 9 vs .45 battle.  In the end the best one is the one you can shot well with.  If you can't hit the broad side of a Barn with a .40 but you can shot pretty well with a 9 then stick with the 9 because a hit with a 9 will do a lot more damage then a miss with a .40 or .45 ever will.   Thanks Robert
  7.   That isn't a bad thing in my option.  Maybe I have spent too much time in crackpot states like Maryland but I could easy see a business ran but Anti that calls the cops and have someone arrested with a tiny little clear sign that no one can see but meets the current requirement of the law.  This sounds like a compromise bill were someone is tiring to address the issue were people could find themselves in trouble because the sign is small and hidden and force business to make it clear where they stand well still getting it past the anti as it wont prevent business from still posting a signs.
  8.   Personally I only go into the office around once a week but my wife is going to have to find a job and commute so I guess I need to map out some of these area to see how far out we are talking about.   No kids going to public schools so that isn't a factor in where we choose.   Thanks Robert
  9.   My company has offices in both the Nashville and Chattanooga areas so I am limited to within around 45 mins of those 2 city's.  My wife current job has decided to close her office at the end of this month so she will be looking for work were ever we end up moving.  So jobs are a concern but not the only factor were we end up it will largely be based on what suits our taste.   Because my wife is losing her job we are looking to stay under 150k for our next home.  Based on some Real Estate website that looks doable but we will get a better feel when we are down in TN in a few weeks looking at actual places.  I am open to suggested area's but have only been in the area a few times so still learning the area.   In the Nashville area: I have been warned to avoid the area's north of Nashville and much of the southern parts are tied up with Franklin and Brentwood.  Those look like nice area's but not what I am looking for.  So east and west of the city looks to be the best areas but it looks like West is still part of Davidson County and I have my concerns about living in that county and it sounds like I should have my concerns and should avoid Davidson County.   In the Chattanooga area: I have been told that Soddy Daisy is some nice area and not heavily regulated.  Not sure about the rest of the area.  The prices in the area look to be lower but my main concern is the number of jobs in the area for my wife.   Thanks Robert
  10.   I will likely go to a local range for the bigger stuff.  Just looking to mostly shoot .22lr and 9m/.45 handguns to keep myself sharp going to a local range for the long guns and shotguns.  Was looking more for hints on area's to watch out for.  In the State of Maryland there is one county were the process for doing a personal range doesn't look hard.  Sensible requirements on paper but one of these requirements is to get a permit from the county.  There has been only 1 said permit issues in the last 10 years and that was for the police range.  So on paper it looks pretty straight forward doing a personal range on your property until you actually try and build one.  The locals know this someone thinking about moving there from out of state wouldn't know this.  That is kind of information is what I am looking for.     For a local example is Davidson County overall friendly to guns and personal property rights or not?  Davidson County includes Nashville and some of the surrounding area.  From my reading Nashville isn't really a gun friendly city.  Does that mean that all of Davidson County isn't gun friendly or is that limited to just within the city limits?  Larger city's seems to control the county they are part of.  If so I would bet doing something like a personal range might be hard inside Davidson County no mater what the local ordinances say and moving into that area wouldn't be a good idea for me.  These are things local would know and someone 1000 miles away wouldn't know.   Thanks Robert
  11. I am in the process of moving to the state of TN from the state of Maryland.  At the begin of May we are heading to both Nashville and Chattanooga to look at housing.  I really want to have a small personal range to shot small caliber (.22lr, 9m, .45, and maybe .223/5.56) weapons at.  we are looking at property outside city limits so hopefully local ordinances wont be an issue.  Any county's or area's I should watch out for?  Anything I need to know or should know about building my own *personal range?  Such as min size of property.  Warning such as not within so many feet of building or a neighbors building etc?  Any hints from someone who has built there own personal ranges.   Thanks Robert   *By personal range we are talking about 25 yards that 2 people can shot at mostly for handgun training.
  12.   I am getting ready to move from Maryland to the Nashville area and was planing to test both and see witch one works better.  Our current phones are several years old so I am likely going to get a cheap GSM phone for testing and see witch one works better.   Thanks Robert

    Buds

Witch is total BS.  The reason that don't want you using outside ammo is because people would use the cheapest crappiest ammo they could get there hands since it isn't there gun they don't care about it.  Ranges just don't want to have to deal with all the headaches that would bring and to be honest I don't blame them.   Thanks Robert
  14.   I have been using Ting for some time.  It saves me a lot but the sprint network sucks and data is only done on the sprint network.  They are starting trial to also support tmobile.  Looking forward to try that as well.   Thanks Robert
  15.   I own a Ruger SR-45 and it is a great gun.  However I think it is a bit big and heavy for CC.  I also own a Glock 19 as well.  I prefer 9 over 45 simple because I want more shots.  If I ever have to use my gun under stress I want to improve my odds of hit something.  I have shot the MP9 and it is even lighter then the Glock 19 but it doesn't seem to be built as well as the Glocks.  A friend of mine owned one and within a year it needed to be repaired.  When I was thinking about buying one I went to check it out and the one in the store was having issues it didn't seem to want to lock when putting in a new mag it was taking me two or three tries to get the mag in.  That would be bad in a self defense moment.  I don't own any RIA Tactical so I can't really comment on those.   Thanks Robert
  16.   I believer Irland has a flat tax or at least did a few years ago before the big govt guys took over.   From what I have read a 10% flat tax would work in the US because close to half the people do not actually pay income taxes and some actually get more back then they put in.  The fact is many people would see an increase if the did a flat 10% tax.  If you use something like Turbo Tax it will tell you the actual percentage you paid.  I wouldn't be surprised to find out a large amount of us already pay in the 10% range already.  We might need a higher base depending on the variants we would actually go with.  The two most common variants I have seen is a) All income is taxes at 10% weather you make a dollar or 1 billion dollars everyone pays 10%.  b) The first X dollars Generally around 20K are free then everything after that is billed at X% generally around 12% but the key to a working flat tax is no deductions and no tiering.  Personally I favor a National Sales Tax and do away with the income tax all together.  That promotes savings and investment.  The key to a National sales tax is you have to kill the National Income tax 100% at the same time or the Government being the monster it is will keep increasing the number of people covered until we have both.   Thanks Robert
  17.   It has taken me 2 years to get to this point.  I have been working on getting out of MD since SB281 past.  For those outside Maryland that bill requires us to get finger printed apply for an ID just to buy a handgun upto of all the BS we already had to go though.  They also ban'd dangerous looking guns like the AR15, M1A, and AK47 but didn't band guns like AR10's.  The did this completely ignoring the largest outcry ever to show up in Annapolis.  Maryland sucks in so many ways it is hard to count.   Thanks Robert
  18.   What part of Maryland?   Update: Duh I missed you were from Pasadena, MD.  You are from the same area as me.
  19.   How I pronounce Maryland (Mar-Land Long A silent Y).  However very few people seem to actual be from Maryland.  Most of the people in the state are from other states.  Maryland has a huge Military population and more then a 1/3 of the states population are suburbs of Washington DC.  There was also a huge influx of people from PA when the Steel mills closed down in the 70's and a huge percentage of the Union jobs fled south to get away from the Union wages.  I am no exception to that rule.  I spent half my life in CA and PA before ending up in Maryland.  Something like a 1/3 of the states workforce works in some form of Government job not counting government contractors.  That explains a lot about our messed up state and local government.
  20.   My company has offices in Nashville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.  I have heard bad things about Memphis so that wasn't an option.  I actually preferred the Chattanooga area but my wife is going to need to find a Job and Chattanooga Unemployment levels are just too high.  Nashville numbers aren't too bad so that area made the most since.    Thanks Robert
  21. CA might be the land of Fruits and Nut but Maryland really wants be like them.  We copy every stupid idea they have.  I have had enough some time ago and have been working on getting out.  There is a good change I can get out this year.  In fact come May we have plans to come down to the Nashville area to look at housing.  We might and try and come down sooner but we are talking about 10 hours in a Car and Flying isn't cheap.   Outside of a little Hunting I did 20 years ago it has only been the last 2 years I have had any dealing with firearms.  Although I picked up the bug and did a fair amount of buying the first year.  Due to the fact I were glasses and my hands are only so stable I will never been anything more that someone who goes out shooting for fun.   Thanks Robert
