    Sig 226 or?

Yea--me too! Actually only $130, though. My price was 1169 pre tax. Unless I wouldn't have paid tax? Which I DO love (not paying taxes). I once bought a barrel of Jack Daniels and we got to go pick out the barrell. We got a bottle the day we selected the barrel that has stamped ALL over it "No taxes paid on this bottle". I don't even drink, but it is one of my prize possessions. (I gave away the bottles from the barrel as business gifts.) Kept the no taxes bottle, though!

@jphillips63 $1278, BUT I am not out the door yet. I still have to pay background check when it gets here. $1299-$130 (NRA discount) + $108 tax=$1278 (ish left off change)
  3. I am NOT referring to that or any ramification of the "18-20" law itself. I am referring to my processes. I have one permit. That permit was good in nearly every place that a permit COULD be good in. Now there has been a change. In my mind, that makes my process and thinking flawed. I have now determined that for me, one permit is not good enough. I feel I need to change my process. I am not operating in a reactionary fashion as many of you seem to be implying. I really do not care about Minnesota or Washington. I care that my previous mentality of having a Tennessee permit only may not meet my future needs. I want to prepare for that possibility BEFORE something else happens (unrelated to the 18-20 year old issue) that could make my permit invalid in a state that I DO wish to visit. Whenever I have a plan that I THINK is a valid plan, that then FAILS, I change my processes.
  4. I am not necessarily concerned about the loss of the 2 states. I am FAR more concerned about the "what ifs". In my mind we did not "only" lose 2 states, instead we saw the law of unintended consequences. 49 other states change their laws ALL the time. I am concerned with what happens if some other state or states makes changes and then it is too late. I am trying to figure out what is the path of least resistance of getting a 2nd permit as a back up ins policy for when things LIKE losing 2 states happens AGAIN.
  5. My bigger fear is that as laws and political climates change, that I could lose states (as occurred) by seemingly innocent laws being passed. Not necessarily concerned about Washington St. I do travel to Minnesota ON OCCASION but not very often. More concerned with a backup for FUTURE law changes. I guess my real question is, "What is the easiest, cheapest, most effective 2nd permit (as a backup) for Tennessee permit holders?"
  6. I travel quite a bit and have never really considered this, but am now thinking about getting a 2nd permit (nonresident, in addition to Tennessee) to help fill in some of the gaps that have been created by Tennessee allowing 18 year olds to get permits (when they are Military). Can anyone guide me towards which state is the most bang for the buck and or cheapest and or easiest. I would love to get one by mail and not have to actually travel there? Advice?
  7. Thanks @JoeCorrado I did not know about the free shipping if purchased in store. I drove down to my local Gander and placed my order and saved $25 on my shiny new Sig Legion 226 .40 over if I had bought from my sofa. I am now going to be a member of the Sig "Secret Decoder" Legion Club!

    Sig 226 or?

SOOO--I checked the Gander site about 400 times today IN CASE someone had a 226 Legion .40 in their cart, which somehow got released after a period of time. Guess what? It happened. so I WAS able to get it ordered. Now 3-5 days of waiting and I will be a member of the Sig Secret Decoder club! I saved $130 from the NRA code (NRA10) and they waived the $25 shipping fee, so ACTUALLY I saved $155. Now the excruciating 3-5 day wait!

    Sig 226 or?

I REALLY am not, @res308. I wish I was the only guy who loves them. More for me. I HATE the Sig DAK trigger and it seems every used and trade in Sig I see in stores has that configuration. I wish I loved that one?
  10. Expires 2/5/2017. Only temporary. Since Gander is frequently around 10% (at least) higher than most places--it does not SAVE much, but may allow someone who has their eye on something that they DO have in stock to justify "pulling the trigger" (pun intended). Also they frequently have the largest stock of weapons in my area (Mt Juliet-Nashville east). In addition since the discount is also good online, if someone is looking for something hard to find, they only charge $25 to ship it to local Gander or LGS for transfer. Also they have a pretty decent online AND in store USED trade in stock.

I think if your goal is to be able to fire ANY weapon that you pick up very proficiently, the sweep trigger method is CLEARLY better, as described above. Also for DAO weapons (or different names for DAO like Glock (which I like) or DAK on sigs--which I hate), and for revolvers it is clearly better. Just not my thing. I think everyone who shoots has something that draws them to a specific weapon, SRT is mine.

    Sig 226 or?

I cannot explain my fascination with the reset. It may be that it gives me something to fixate on when I am attempting rapid fire or double taps. I do not fire (necessarily) worse when shooting a weapon with longer reset, I just prefer shorter reset. Maybe it it something about making the trigger shorrer that causes manufacturers to ensure it is a good all around trigger? I cannot explain it and shoot about the same (mediocre in competetions. Win some, lose most) without it, but seem to prefer it? Since we are not discussing some PROHIBITIVELY expensive upgrade, to me it is as good of a reason as any to pick one fine weapon over a different equally fine brand or model. I discovered the SRT by accident and did not know what it was or what it was called. I traded a Sig 229 .357 for a Sig 229 .40 Elite (with SRT). I did not know what "Elite" meant in Sig Language. (I subsequently found out it means beavertail and SRT--2 features that I really prefer.) After firing it a few times I told a knowledgeable friend--I really love this thing. I don't know what it is about the trigger but I love it. HE is the one who explained it to me. Since then I have not looked back. I have spoken and competed with guys who insist that they slam their trigger finger up against the front of the trigger guard after every shot. That is fine for them. Not for me. (as an analogy, I also play golf. Gary Player is one of the greatest golfers of all time. In lieu of shifting his weight like a tradional golf swing, he literally starts walking forward as he hits the ball, shifting his weight with forward motion. That has worked great for Gary Player. I would NOT recommend anyone else try it.)
  13. I am sure most of you know this but entering the code NRA10 at checkout at Gander Mountain gets you 10% off on the website.

@zybysco--that is EXACLTY why I want the Legion. That is what I meant by the SRT listed above. I am for some reason practically addicted to it and it is a must have on any pistol that I shoot (in DA/SA which I prefer). On SA triggers, I am not as demanding of the new SA SRT. It is nice, but I have no problem shooting a "plain" SA trigger. I almost can't stand shooting a DA/SA pistol (and will not carry one) without the SRT and the Legion SRT is seemingly better than my Elite and Extreme SRTs that I already have (may be in my head though, I have not fired the Legion yet). I am guessing if you are not a "Sig Guy", this likely makes no sense, but anyone who is likely is nodding their heads. For me (for some unknown to me reason) the trigger pull and especially reset is EVERYTHING. (also important to me as stated above is the Elite Bevertail--but not as important as the trigger)

    Sig 226 or?

My desire for the Legion is NOT for any hype or for the Secret Decoder Ring. I like the Beavertail (because I have fat hands and I get the web pinched between the thumb and index finger of my shooting hand), I DEMAND the SRT, and I like the sights. Other than that, I really do not care about the Legion club--it has NOTHING do do with my decision to buy one. I just thought that the $130 off of new weapons at Gander was too good to pass up, and they HAD one on the website. I have not shot many CZs. I have read enough to know that many "Sig Guys" are also CZ guys. Wilson Combat 92G's that I can find are around 2K. Also I am a .40 guy (I have a really good reason) and I already have the 229 and 224 so the 226 gives me a trifecta of the double stack .40. In addition, once I get my 226--I will move my 229 from my go-to bedside gun with mounted light to my daily carry rotation where it belongs. I will likely move on to trying CZs next. Apparently, the number of handguns that I "need" is not finite.

I was all set to join the Sig "Cool Kid" club and everything! (I already have a 229, 224, 220 in 10 mm, 238, and a Sig AR--but no "Cool Kid Secred Decoder Club" Legions.

    Sig 226 or?

I had a Sig 226 Legion in .40 in my cart on the Gander website. 10% off with NRA discount code. Went to the bank to move some money around at lunch and came back to hit "buy" and it is GONE. Not in my cart and disappeared from Website. Gander Chat site advised they will not be getting in any more before the NRA coupon expires. I am bummed!
  18. Massad Ayoob teaches that. Since he writes for most of the gun magazines that we all read, I suspect that you read his quote. He sells and teaches classes on what to to AFTER a shooting and he constantly preaches this. He says that on the witness stand (which he does for free if you take his class) that he can easily debunk that you were "out to kill and mame" if you use the exact same ammo as your local cops. He has very concrete, real world examples of people who have lost in court after justified shootings due to using the "wrong" caliber/brand ammo. Most notably Harold Fish. (briefly--Fish was a schooteacher who was attacked by a deranged man and justifiably shot the attacker with a 10 mm that he was carrying for bear/mountain lion protection in Arizona. Fish was convicted of 2nd degree murder (based on the prosecution successfully proving that 10mm is SO hyped up that even the FBI couldn't handle it) and spent the rest of his life and several million dollars getting the case overturned, which he did after around 15 years mostly in jail and (I think) 5 million dollars. He died right after he was exonerated, broke and having spend his last decade in and out of jail. Ayoob says not to be like him. Carry what your local cops carry and this will not happen.) Fish's story https://www.buckeyefirearms.org/terrifying-and-true-harold-fish-story DISCLAIMER--I was just answering @Parrothead's question. These are not my opinions, they are Massad Ayoob's and I am just reporting them. Yes, i think we should all be able to carry cannons if we choose to. Yes I would have shot the deranged attacker with whatever I had on me. No it is not fair. But I also have no desire to spend 15 years in and out of jail and 15 million dollars!
  19. It strikes me that human nature is to reject change, and in the case of weapons--this is clearly evident. I am old enough to remember Vietnam Vets hating m-16's (AND the 5.56) active duty military absolutely despising Beretta M9 9mm 92's (AND the 9mm in general), cops FURIOUS about the change from wheelguns to Glocks, etc etc. But when we look back, those become the MOST popular weapons of a generation. I had a conversation with a NYC cop who told me that his usual "MO" was to carry a Glock 17 as his sidearm, and his old S&W duty revolver on his ankle. When in a confrontation, he said he would draw his revolver, if necessary empty it, THEN draw his Glock, tossing his revolver on the ground. He referred to it as a "New York Reload". He said he never trusted his Glock and still does not. Fast forward one Generation and the Glock is considered (arguably) by many as one of the most reliable weapons ever invented. I am saying all this to refer to the change to the Sig 320 as announced by the US Military. I can recall VERY few that were happy about going to the Baretta M9 (92). Now people are upset about the change to Sig with MANY MANY ex-Military guys exalting the Beretta (and curiously several versions of the Beretta selling for CRAZY prices). I predict that in a Generation, the Sig 320 will be considered "up there" with the 1911, the Barettta 92, and the Glock 17 as an all time favorite. Any input? (this is intended to be a post about "human nature" and rejection to change--not saying that one is "better" or trying to get into a senseless caliber war)
  20. I had a Taurus Millineum Pro. Took it to the range and it literally fell apart in my hand on the 19th shot (slide cap and firing pin assembly fell out in my hand). I called Taurus got a recording that said, "we are closed for a few weeks, call back in a month." I thought, "ok" so I waited a few weeks and called back. They said, "Sorry. Mail it back." Mailed it back. Immediately got a tracking number (email) to track my pistol through the repairs. I checked it every day. Never showed me any updates. Not one single word. Finally 6 months later, it showed up in my mailbox with no paperwork or explanation. I immediately took it in and traded it for a Glock 27 .40 caliber that I am very happy with. I have no idea what was wrong with the Taurus, what they did to fix it, and never fired the repaired pistol. Likely to never buy a Taurus again, though.
  21. @MacGyver--I believe it is just a matter of practice. I always say that EVERY pistol is a trade off of size, caliber, weight, capacity but ALSO carry style and draw are clearly on the list. The ability to carry in the pocket is a huge positive but the trade offs DO include size, caliber, weight, capacity AND of course draw. I just practice a tiny bit every day. Fortunately I have never had to draw under duress but I am pretty sure (pretty sure being the key word) that I could. I insert my hand in my pocket and kind of loosen my Sig p238 from its pocket holster (Desantis Superfly) and draw with finger off the trigger and thumb riding the safety. For me the key is to take the final grip before I begin to draw it, which is also part of what I meant when I said "fit in MY pocket". I think I have it down but the part that makes me uneasy (hence my presence on this particular thread) is the safety. I am not a "1911 Guy" and my Sig 238 is the only pistol that I carry (ever) that has one. That said I have carried it since around 2009 and practiced drawing it and presenting it roughly every day so hopefully I about have it down. I still have that little "tug" in the back of my brain that it is not "perfect" for me, hence the list of others that I have tried to carry and again the reason I am on this thread. I had a P290 rs in my basked on Gunbroker last night about midnight, but since I have never even seen or held one, I was able to talk myself out of buying one sight unseen (rare moment of using some sense from me and controlling an impulse buy on a weapon. I am BAD about it).
  22. Above is my current 'Little Buddy" pocket pistol. Sig p238 with custom Sig medallion grips. I think he is kind of handsome.
  23. Thanks for posting this. I had no idea I needed one till today around 5 pm. Now I have read nearly every article that exists and am pretty sure I do. The only deciding factor will be to see if it fits in my pocket. That is my differentiating factor for a pocket pistol--it has to fit in MY pocket. If it does not fit in my pocket, then I would have to holster it on my belt. If I have to holster it on my belt, I have no need for a TINY weapon. So that has become my litmus test. Do I like the weapon, configuration, and caliber? If so does it fit in my pocket? Many times the answer is no to one of those 2 questions. So far I am still carrying a Sig p238 daily. I also have a Diamondback .380 which I want to like better, but it has the tiny little drawback of not going bang every time I pull the trigger (which is also a disqualifier.) I keep meaning to mail it back but have not gotten around to it. I have an SCCY that i have not fired yet (was a gift). Anticipating NOT liking, it but occasionally get surprised. Had a Kel Tec .32 (before the .380 revolution0 that i was very partial to that was stolen out of my car (still not sure wHere the security breakdown was there. Thinking I must have left door unlocked, but not totally sure). Had a Ruger LCP that I hated. May give the new version 2 another shot Would go back to the Diamondback if it were more reliable, so that NEEDS to be my next move, mail it back. But the Sig p290 RS is now singing to me.......
