  1. Dont think this one will pass Constitutional muster.  I think this one will go away.   This aint an equal rights thing; its a deeply held religious objection (...per the photographer...).   I predict the "pro bono" legal groups will pick this one up and win it on appeal.   Heres hopin. leroy
  2. I like these guys;  http://www.topgunsupply.com/   Gettin ready to order a few glock 27 mags myself.   leroy
  3. RE:  This question:   My guess is that its a deal made with the Haslams to let Bill finish up a "sucessful" governorship of tennesse with a "successful record of fiscal responsibility and job growth" (...remember, governors are very likely to become presidential candidates...) and pave the way for a senate run.  I think the "grand deal" is to have the Haslams back Ramsey for governor at the appropriate time and ole Bill can "move up" (...so to speak...) to the national scene ALA the senate seat.     After another 7 years; lamar will be 80 years old.  Old enough (...in his mind, i'm sure...) to enter "honored retirement" as another "great political figure" from tennessee ALA Howard Baker; and allow his "mantle" to fall on the "Snozz" ALA the Baker/Alexander thing.   My guess is that Alexander's bank account will get fatter in "consulting fees" if all this works out.  The good news is that he aint gettin any younger.   As an aside; you've got to remember that lamar is in the enviable position of having a very diversified political base (...ALA Howard Baker....).  He has everybody; from treehuggers, to teachers, to college professors, to businessmen in his camp.  That is how he can afford to offend us "delightful rustic" conservatives with impunity.    Lamar is far closer to a "new deal democrat" and a "fat-cat blue nose republican" than he is anything else; everything is a "deal" to him; and, after all, he knows best (...ALA the old "Whats good for General Bullmose is good to the USA" thing...).  He is politically smart, utterly ruthless, and terribly vindictive.  That scares a bunch of the political class where everything is a "deal" and survival depends on "back door deals".   It'll take some real backbone, integrity, intellect, and grassroots support to beat him.  He (...if nothin else...) is a very formidable adversary on any level ya want to operate on.   wonderin leroy
  4. I've been noticing some interestin stuff in the Kansas/Oklahoma territories.  Kansas City (...Kansas...) seems to be a hotbed of racial trouble (...about 29% black...).   Google a bit and you will be surprized (...and dismayed...).    I think it's very interesting that this sort of thing is popping up in unusual places.  The current bunch of politicos has done a lot to raise "racial tensions"; which i think, for the most part, is just a pretext to do heinous things to whitey under the pretext of "outrage and striking back" ALA the muslum brotherhood and south africa model.   This sort of thing is very dangerous.   I wonder if anyone in the political class at any level has the backbone to call it what it really could be??!... . Time will tell.   Be watchful and keep your powder dry. leroy
  5. I think that the "...its worse than ya think financially thing..." is what they are hidin too.  As others have opined; there are lots of folks from the sourlands that went to work up there, believed the union, and lived their working lives up there that are (...sadly...) in for a big shock.   I fear they are in big trouble; and bein a retired geezer myself, i can sympathize with their coming problem; which i think is too horrific for lots of them to contemplate.   Time will tell how this one will play out....  I fear the worst.   leroy
  6. I use the one that is on sale; whether it is grease (...pivots and locks...) or a moisture displacing lube (...wipe down blade and bolsters...).   All of them seem to be very good.   leroy
  7. I doubt that anyone can "unseat" Alexander in a primary (...sadly...); but i do believe it's a good thing to send a message about the unhappiness of lots of us tennesseeans have for this voting record in congress; especially toading up to the dammed democrats on several of obama's appointees; and essentially nullifying several tennessee senatorial votes splitting "yeas" and "nays" with corker.   I can tell ya all that his August/September newsletter highlites this "conservative" positions; and i think that is a good thing.  Could it be that this little "dust up" with the more conservative wing of the libertarians, Tea Party, and Republican party factions have  anything to do with this?.... Yes, i think it, indeed, does; and that's a good thing.   leroy, radical isolationist libertarian
  8. I love the great "log skidder"... .   The lady who kept me as a small boy wuz married to an old time logger.  Mr Bohanan and his son ran a little two man logging operation back in the late forties and early fifties.  I well remember when he put his team into honored retirement and started using a small John Deer crawler to do the skidding.     Thanks for posting these great pictures!!. leroy
  9. This story illustrates two truths... The first is that there is a heinous double standard in the media and in society RE:  Black on white crime and it's reporting.  The second is that you had better be armed.    This whole sorry thing did more to arm real people in knoxville and the surrounding area than anything ive ever seen; and i fully understand why. It also emptied the "cup of kindness" for the black community for their silence on this heinous crime.   leroy
  10. Here are a few ya might not have thought about:   ---- John Sevier, Revolutionary War commander that fought with the over mountain men at Kings Mountain and Cowpens.  These two battles effectively ended the Revolutionary War in the south and paved the way for the British surrender at Yorktown.  A real "Three Percenter" who made a difference when it counted.  Sevier County is named for him. --- Davey Crockett,  Need i say more. --- Harvey Marion LaFollette, Founder of Lafollette, TN and father of the coal and iron boom in upper east tennessee in the 1890 - 1900s. --- James P. Carter, Upper East Tennessee businessman.   Builder of the Clinchfield Railroad, founder of the feast for East Tennessee State University, Kingsport, TN and Irwin, TN. He essentially opened turned the upper east tennessee area into a business hub single-handedly with the railroad that connected the midwest and the southeast.  He also ran a huge coal mine operation in West Virginia. --- Cas Walker, Grocery magnate, businessman, entrepreneur, public servant, and all round great character.  He made it all the way to Life Magazine by way of a famous picture of a fight between him and another knoxville city councilman during a knoxville city council meeting when politics was great.   leroy
  11.   Good heavens!!  I had no idea....   leroy
  12. I want to thank all of you who have taken the time to call mayor Taylor out along with the Maryville Times.   I'm aghast that a town in east tennessee could elect such a man as Taylor; but it's happening in lots of places.  Taylor is a typical "elitist" jackass who knows what's best for us "delightful rustics".  He knows better than the Founding Fathers and the pioneers who settled this country what should be done.   He is truly disgusting.    Thanks again for all your work. leroy
  13. Sam:  RE: The "flat nose" truncated cone bullet thing:  I think you are right.  In the "old days" hornady introduced two bullets, one in 45 (...230 grain...) and a 9 mm (...124 grain...) flat nose truncated cone type bullet.  I've got several boxes of the 9 mm from the old days for loading into 38 super.  They are probably 25 years old.  My current stash of 45 acp wuz loaded with the 230 grain flat nose hardball of about the same vintage.  I did a quick look on the hornady site; they still do the flat nose 45 acp; but not the 9 mm.    When ya look at the bullet selections; ya can see that the hollow point designs have taken most everything in the handgun bullet department.   There is no doubt that the bullet nose design is very important.  I aint sure that the copper plated lead flat nose bullets aint the real low cost answer for both the 45 and the nine.   leroy
  14. RE:  Smith's post above (...#18...).  I think what is hurting the rep of the 9mm is the bullet design thing.  The bullet engineers have fixated on the hollow point in an attempt to fix the "over penetration" thing (...which aint necessarily a bad thing in crowded locations....) to the point that sometimes there are spectacular failures of the bullet (... shedding a jacket, not expanding, whatever...).  I think that plus the low bullet weight (...115 to 125 grain...) hurts the 9mm somewhat.     I think the nine is much closer to a good 38 special than lots of people want to believe; especially when fired in short barreled pistols (...less than 4 inches...).    We've got a baby glock (33...) in 357 sig that will generate a genuine 1250 to 1300 fps with handloads and a 125 grain hornady hollowpoint (...357 sig design...) out of a 3 inch barrel.  That's with a case plum full of AA #9.  I aint sure a 9 mm will do that out of the usual defense handgun. By way of contrast, a good medium framed 357 mag with a 4 inch barrel will probably reliably do 1450 fps... Thats pretty fast, and is (...i think...) the root of why the 357 works so well.   I aint beatin up the 9 mm ---- i think all calibers are lethal in the right hands ----- but i think what we are talkin about here is part of the problem.   A 4 inch or longer 357 revolver loaded with 125 grain hot loads is lots more powerful than a 9 or 357 sig across the board.   Faster the bullet, the more reliable the "kill factor".  It shoots thru something vital or hits a bone, shatters it, and the bone fragments do the job.  I think that is what our man is tryin to say in a backhanded way.   leroy
  15. Ted:  Thanks for posting the link, it's a great read. Some things to think about.  The problem in lots of places RE: weapons effectivness is that we are short on old time gun men and hunters and long on "scientific and analytical opinions".  I'm kinda like the great Jeff Cooper on this stuff.  He wuz rather dismissive of those who weren't in gunfights.  He preferred the wisdom of those who were in gunfights and lived to tell the tale to those who gave opinions on them.    Havin said all that; here are some things to consider that the guy who did the posting wuz right on (...at least i think he is...); and where his observations square with the opinions of old time gunmen:   --- Shot placement is the king of stopping the trouble.   Old time hunters say the same thing.  No contest here.   --- Deep penetration is the most important aspect of wounding what you are shooting at.   Old time hunters say the same thing.  Especially when goin after big, dangerous game.     --- The bigger the caliber, the greater the bullet mass.  The more likely it is to stay together and do more damage by shattering protective bone structures.   Old time hunters say the same thing.   Havin said that, the high velocity stuff that stays together does the same thing at the expense of mass.  It's long on velocity and short on mass.  Think 357 mag and 357 sig here.   --- The "hierarchy of killin effectivenes" shows up here too.  Shotgun, rifle, handgun.  Again, agreement with old time hunters and "security professionals".   Notice the caliber and mass thing here too.   The fact of the matter is (...i believe, anyway...) that the old time gunmen have been vindicated here.  Heavy caliber revolvers of 357 magnum up are very reliable manstoppers; as is the 1911.   They have just fell out of favor in modern times.   The plastic pistol revolution gave us greater firepower (...round count...), but less desirable calibers.   It cost some lives in gunfights and that's why ya see certain segments of those who need to have all the edge they can get in a potential gunfight encounter are goin back to the old time 1911 in an ancient caliber... The 45 ACP.     Regardless of the opinions of opiners, "experts", and "caliber jhadists"; the best gun to have in any gunfight is the one you are carryin; and you better know how to shoot it more than once.   I'm thinkin about findin another government model myself.   They are just a bit heavy.   leroy
  16. The whole lot of them (...parents and judge...) are ignorant.  Who cares?   leroy
  17. Mike:  I'm gonna do a real bad thing.  You REALLY NEED a military to go with your paramilitary.  I've been carryin one for the last few weeks in place of my ZT 200.   I bought mine from knifecenter (...i think...) its a left handed one and they had 'em on sale.  Remember, you really need one.  Think of 'em as an upgraded endura (...4 inch blade....).    They are still on sale... Here's the link: http://www2.knifecenter.com/item/SP36GPLE/Spyderco-Left-Hand-Military-4-inch-S30V-Satin-Plain-Blade-G10-Handles?&utm_source=website&utm_medium=search-as-you-type&utm_campaign=spyderco%20military   enjoy!! leroy   PS -- I really like the paramilitary too!!
  18. I think the dress code is just fine.  As others have wisely opined.  If ya dont like the dress code; dont go in and quit whining and implying that everything is racist and the deck is stacked against you because ya wear your ball cap backwards, a hoodie that is 4 sizes too large, a 4xl tee shirt and your dungarees pulled down to the crack of your azz.  I dont happen to like that style of dress myself, but that's just me.   Remember, stereotypes are "stereotypical" because they typically represent a sizable population who exhibit those particular "stereotypical" behaviors or characteristics.. ..   leroy, commentator on the thug fashion scene
  19. I tend to like what we would call "plane jayne" government models myself.  I think its a "older generation" thing for some of us who remember when 45ACP actually meant 45 Automatic COLT pistol.  As others have opined, i like the looks and handling of a 45 that has the "old timey" look ,,,, round dust cover, spur hammer, low sights.... .    We recently re-did a light weight commander (...colt of course...).  Lowered and flaired the ejection port, low adjustable nite sights (...old eyes...), ambidextrous safety (...im a lefty...), long trigger and a bit of trigger touch up... .      I really like it; but i cant bring myself to carry it.   I keep the glocks handy.  They are excellent pistols; but are like a hammer or a handsaw.  The re-done colt commander is like a valued member of the family.  So the little sayin: ...." i show my colt to my friends and my glock to the heathen"... .   Remember, the colt government model wuz the only fitting replacement for the great single action army.  It wuz issued to the calvary for delivering firepower and mayhem on the gallop.  That alone is reason enough for every finished pistol man or woman to own one.  I say "...collect em all....".   I'm thinkin about pickin up an STI spartan myself.   Maybe i could bear to part with it.  I simply cant stand the thought of loosin a colt to a police locker for several years.   leroy
  20. The endura is a great pocket knife.  Just the right size and good and light.    Keep up the good work! leroy
  21. almost the weekend.  Will push this back up to the top.  Any upper east tennessee members know about this?   thanks, leroy
  22. I wonder how long the citizens of Florida are gonna put up with this.  Florida (...and some other places...) are lookin a bit like south africa to me lately.  Thanks for posting this interestin and sad news.   leroy
  23. Dear brother and sister opiners; i'm interested in this little story found on the wbir news website:   http://www.wbir.com/news/article/283620/2/Charges-dropped-against-former-sheriff   I did a bit of quick searching and found several articles about what this guy was charged with; but i'm interested in the politics, background and motivation for the charges and resulting trial (...there has to be some...).  It's interesting to me that this guy has had this happen to him and seems to be innocent (...at least the juries and the judge seems to think so...).    My interest, as you all can guess, is the political background and issues that drove this case.  There are those who believe that the TBI became a political lapdog and tool for the Bredesen administration due to a bunch of purges on his watch.  Please let me know what ya all think.   Thanks a bunch, leroy
  24. Ole charlie is the classic race baiter.  He can say these outlandish things because he represents a district that overwhelmingly believes this stuff.  That, alone, should sober up some of the "open minded" are "reasonable" among us.  If ole charlie had his way; us "crackers" would be mistreated far more than we are today.  The good news is that ole charlie aint getting any younger.  It will be a great day when the grisly reaper pays him a visit.   The problem is that there are those in the black community who are younger and more militant who will take his sorry place.   They have been mentored and trained by the likes of those like the great Jeremiah Wright, Eric Holder, and Barak Obama.   The good news is that they are, in fact, a minority.   We need to defeat them politically and keep them a minority.   leroy the east tennessee "cracker"
