  1. How does a name get tied to a gun in the computer? If I’m running DL’s and then I run a gun serial number, how does the computer tie it to a person? Who maintains this mysterious “Database” and for how long do they maintain it?
  2. I guess stupidity shouldn’t surprise me, but sometimes it still does. I find it hard to believe that someone contemplating open carrying an AR into a downtown rally would not make sure he could legally do that. Especially after all the gun boards and all the videos have asked that you not even open carry.   So if it wasn’t just stupidity, he must want to test the law in court, or he is from the other side and was trying to cause a bigger stir than he did.
  3. Just about anything other than obvious abuse.
  4. I haven’t heard any of the details, but my guess is they will get more than a truck whether this goes to trial or not. The cops made a mistake. Those women get a payday; now it’s just a matter of how much.
  5.   I’m not underestimating him, good God the man claims to have an SA-7. I’m just saying that if they get a tip; they will take him out. And yes he is…. He is a common thug. The fact that he was a Navy Reserve Officer (What did he do?)  and a cop for what… a year and a half… doesn’t change that. Highly trained? How much training do you need to execute women and shoot cops sitting in their cars?
  6. I have to smile a little when I think of the cops I know being afraid of this clown. Most would like nothing better than to engage him; I know I would have. Yes, the people he made threats against are being guarded24/7. That’s common sense, if he tries to carry out his threats; that is where he will be. One retired cop on the hit list said he hadn’t been out of his house since the shooting. Does that mean it is because of this, or is that just how the media played it?   Cowards like Dorner feed on fear. So I’m sure he is getting off on all the hand wringing in the media.   But now a Million dollars is in play. The best thing that could happen would be if an armed citizen took him down. Feinstein and Boxer won’t like that.
  7. No kidding. If either of them said this it should show people their intelligence level. Of course once their handlers get on this it will be denied because it came from an intern. EDIT: Oops.... someone didn’t do their homework.
  8. Why did they fire? I haven’t seen any details. Did they just blindly open fire on trucks that came close to matching his?
  9. Send it to Smith & Wesson and get it fixed for free.
  10.   Yes, and he was taken down by a rookie cop while he was dumpster diving, without incident.
  11. The choice in a heavy caliber is generally going to come down to the ammo. There isn’t enough difference between a 30-06 and .308 rifles to notice. The only cheap 30-06 ammo is going to be old military M2 ball, not great for target shooting and not a hunting round. Everything is in short supply right now, but when it lets up .308 will be back in supply, and you will have much more choices than 30-06. I own rifles in both calibers, but if I had to pick one it would be .308. The battle of the bolt rifles is going to be the Remington 700 and the Savage lines. You can’t go wrong with either. The 700 has owned this market for years and the new Savages have been giving them a run for their money. Of course stand by… Smith & Wesson has been listening to their customers and giving them everything they want in the M&P line. They just rolled out a 308 AR, so the next logical thing to do is an M&P heavy barrel bolt. A scope is going to be as important as the rifle you choose. I haven’t got to shoot the Ruger; I don’t see a heavy barrel option which is a must for me. Browning rifles are made in Japan unless you buy a high dollar custom from Belgium. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good guns; but it kicks them off my list. The only thing they make here is .22’s
  12. No one here is arguing that the law that you can’t chamber a round exists…. Because it doesn’t. We are all 100% in agreement. Did the cop say it? We don’t know and neither does the OP. But we do know that all you have to do is post that a cop said something wrong and everyone will jump on it. Whether or not it happened is immaterial.
  13. The same amount of guns is being made. Small shops will be hurt if the distribution network changes. I assume the big stores may get increased inventory, which means the guys at the bottom are out of luck.   I went on GunBroker the other day to see if my 308 AR was bringing the crazy kind of prices people are talking about. They have some crazy prices listed, but when I searched only the auctions that have completed; those high priced guns had no bids. So it doesn't seem to be as bad as some are making out.
  14. Have you read his “manifesto”?   Let’s say everything he claims is true. Do good cops get railroaded? Yes they do, just like innocent people go to prison. Do they go on a rampage and start killing the children of the people that railroaded them? Of course they don’t.   Do we know what happened in that hearing? No, we have one side… his. Will we know? Probably, I assume the media is trying to get the transcripts. Will it change anything? No.   “The people who fear him” are civilians; cops don’t fear him anymore than any other murdering thug. They are hunting him and they will find him. And if they have to kill him they will be accused of murdering him.   As best I can tell this guy was a cop for about a year and a half? He attacked two cops because he claimed they called someone a N*****.  He does not deny that he attacked them and choked one of them before other Officers broke it up. Is that someone you think should be a cop on the street? He should have been gone right then. He follows that up by saying “What I should have done, was put a Winchester Ranger SXT 9mm 147 grain bullet in his skull and Officer XXXX’s skull. The Situation would have been resolved effective, immediately.”  Yes, LAPD certainly made an error in that case didn’t they?   Do you hate bad cops? Read his manifesto and you will see that this guy was one before that hearing or the event leading up to it ever took place.
  15. Unless the broken axel is what stopped the truck I would guess he had another vehicle. He knows that contacting people or stealing a car would put him at very high risk of being spotted. He knew he couldn’t continue to drive that truck and since this is obviously all planned out in advance; I’m guessing he drove out of there. But he did leave weapons, gear, and night vision in the truck; so who knows. He a legend in his own mind, we will see how well that works for him.
  16. He’s a delusional sociopath that executed innocent civilians and ambushed some cops. I don’t see how that makes the LAPD look like fools. LAPD has not refused to do everything they can. He said in his manifesto that if they reopened the investigation the killing would stop. They have done that. To negotiate with a homicidal maniac is a big step for them. He’s just another murdering thug with a gun. That will be his legacy. To think that he can clear his or name or that anyone is going to forgive him for murdering the family members of people he is pizzed off at shows just how far gone his mind is.
  17. If you have to do any drilling, filing, tapping, or refinishing I would get another stock. Kevlar is a great material for its intended applications, but a rifle stock is not one of those.
  18. Note to self… If you work around some of the best investigators in the world; don’t do stuff that will cause you to lose your job and hope no one finds out.   From what I have read of Petraeus I doubt he blames anyone but himself.
  19. I couldn’t get picture of the group because of the trees and how spread out there are, but the suckers are huge. On several occasions there has been a group of about 20 or more flying around. Its eerie, they don’t make any noise, just cruise around. We have some big azz crows n the area, but they make a bunch of noise. Is this some kind of hawk? It has to be at least a three foot wingspan.
  20. A majority of the cost of rebluing a gun is the polish work before the bluing. Find someone that will give you a good price on a hi-gloss blue if you do the grunt work and then polish that to a mirror finish and let them blue it. I did that with a S&W Model 19 and it turned out awesome.
  21. Our founding Fathers were all long dead by the time another group of Patriots paid for States Rights with their lives. They lost, but it was the bloodiest war our country has ever been in, and they didn’t die in vain. The Federal government can’t tell you when and where you can carry a gun unless they are handling law enforcement. That’s what Obama wants, is it what you want? Everyone gets to strap on a gun or States’ Rights; pick a side. I know what will happen if the Feds are in charge; so I pick states’ Rights. It really is not a mystery.
  22. Neither of those cases apply. Tennessee law puts the gun in the hands of the Officers legally, without a warrant or a search. Keep in mind you are in a state where carrying a gun is a crime. If they ask you for permission to run the number you can tell them “No” if you like. I wouldn’t think they would ask you for your permission any more than they would ask your permission to run your license plate number for stolen.
  23. The Officer seemed to be polite. He didn’t check what she was carrying until he found out she had arrests for weapons violations. Out in the desert by an interstate. Could he have been dispatched there because of calls from passing motorists? Could he have just been checking on her welfare or checking to see if she was an illegal crossing the desert That sounds like BS also. What kind of helicopter burns over 300 gallons of fuel an hour?
  24. I think he’s a retired Fireman. Everyone loves them and they get to do pretty much whatever they want, but I don’t think searches is one of them.
