The RIA is made by Amscor in the Philippines and marketed through Twin Pines Inc. RIA is a play on “Rock Island Arsenalâ€; which has absolutely nothing to do with RIA. If you are going to shoot with the Tactical Tupperware guys (I am one of those also, so I say that in a very kind way.) it won’t matter. But if you are going to shoot with the 1911 guys you will get your feelings hurt when you bring your new firearm to the range. Isn’t one of the SA models just a little more than that?

Anything that can send massive amounts of 7.62 NATO down range is cool.

Before I comment…. How much do you shoot? And what will be the purpose of this 1911… Target, Carry, Home Protection, plinking, or just wanting a 1911? Is this the one that is in the $400 range new?

You can’t stop it. Buy used when you start out. That way as you work your way to the top you won’t lose as much money.

It prevents what happened in England. It prevents the federal government from disarming the Tennessee National Guard, THP, or Metro. I am not saying that is all it was meant to do; I am saying that is what it clearly does with no argument from anyone (that I know of…. Yet). Almost all Federal districts have ruled it is a protection for the state; not an individual right. The SCOTUS has not ruled specifically ruled on that issue; they have left it up to the Federal Districts. Please keep in mind here that I am not saying that I believe the 2nd amendment was not intended to protect an individual’s right to bear arms. I am simply saying that I personally have been shown very clearly that I do not have a right to bear arms. There is absolutely no doubt where the 7th Federal District Court (or most others) stand on that. Was what only in Illinois? Tennessee does not recognize the 2nd as an individual right either. The difference is that you have pro-gun legislators in Tennessee. And they will be very quick to tell your carry permits are a privilege given to you by the state, just like a driver’s license. If you are carrying a firearm in Tennessee it is the discretion of the Police Officer of whether or not you are cuffed up and hauled off to jail. But it doesn’t matter. If one state (and we have many) does not recognize it; it is not a right. Now we can all mad about that, threaten to call our Senators, Congressmen, Attorneys, or our Mom. We can yell at the top of our lungs that we support the 2nd amendment and even have it on cool shirts and bumper stickers; but it will not change the facts or the laws. Fight the 2nd amendment fight! But please quit slowing down legislation that could allow us the ability to kill thugs that threaten us on the streets by making it a 2nd amendment issue. I was arrested and jailed. <O:p</O:p Over a period of three years my case went to trial; the Judge threw it out, the States Attorney appealed his decision, the appellate court overturned his decision, charges were again filed, a new States Attorney was in, I made a deal with him and charges were ultimately dismissed. I paid thousands of dollars to have it explained to me by my attorneys and a Judge that according to the 7<SUP>th</SUP> District court I do not have a right to bear arms. <O:p</O:p I have been there, done that and got the T-shirt. Don’t get me wrong I believe I have a right to bear arms, but I do not believe nor do I want to tie that right to the 2<SUP>nd</SUP> amendment. I believe that when I am at a traffic light and an armed thug tries to car jack me; I have the very basic right to protect my life and the lives of my family by being able to repel that attack. Disarming me takes that very basic right away. I am a realist. While you may think that the 2<SUP>nd</SUP> amendment gives you some right to have a firearm; it clearly does not. All but two Federal Courts have ruled it is not an individual right. The SCOUTS has refused to make that decision, they have left it up to the lower courts. Some believe that they may be considering hearing one of those cases; I am absolutely sure in my own mind we will not like the outcome. Tying gun ownership to the 2<SUP>nd</SUP> amendment would be a great victory for the anti-gun groups.

They were subject to whatever laws (if any) the states they were in had in place. They were not acting under authority of the Federal government unless they were in the military. There is confusion on every aspect of the second amendment. The only thing that is crystal clear is that we have a system in place for disputes involving the Constitution. If that is what they meant that is what they would have said. If their intent was for an individual to be protected from either the Feds or the state limiting their ownership or use of firearms; that is what they would have written. “A well regulated Militia†is not exactly how I would have started out if my intent was to protect the individual. However… that is exactly how I may have started it out if my intent was to protect the states right to maintain a militia.

I have never been there, I am going to shoot both handgun and rifle and I have some questions. I thought I read somewhere that they don’t allow silhouette targets; true? That is all I have; do they sell targets? Do I need anything to put up targets… stapler, hammer, etc?? (I’m spoiled by indoor ranges ) Any other tips I should know?

I would love to see <st1:State>Tennessee</st1:State> get it; but I don’t see them giving up any of the money they are getting now. <O:p</O:p I think some states allowed carry in a vehicle; but I have never lived in any. <O:p</O:p

That’s one of the nice things about shooting and collecting as a hobby; any used firearm should be that way. I go through maybe 3-5 firearms a year and they don’t cost me anything but ammo.

I had a guy I worked with that wanted a .45acp, but he wanted it CHEAP… $200 or less. I told him that the only thing he would get in that price range that would be reliable is the Hi-Point. I showed him how to use it after he got it. Butt ugly… looked like you could roof your house with it; but it worked. I won’t give you any grief for buying a hi-point. Why buy cheap foreign stuff when you can buy cheap “American Made†stuff? I will however say that the .380 is absolutely unacceptable as a carry round no matter who made the firearm.

I was going on business trip from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State>Illinois</st1:State> to CA a few years ago. My friend in CA told me I could either bring one on my handguns or he would loan me one and we would go shooting while I was there. I checked the regs and they were pretty straight forward. The young lady checking me in did not know how to respond when I told her I wanted to declare a firearm. She called someone and a guy came out the back and <st1:stockticker>LOUD</st1:stockticker>LY ask “Okay, who wants†to check the gun?†He started barking out the regulations like either I had not read them or thought I would just carry it through in my carry on. After determing that I had followed all the rules he took my bag and informed the lady he would “Take care of itâ€. I got to <st1:PlaceName>Orange</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType>County</st1:PlaceType> <st1:PlaceType>Airport</st1:PlaceType> in CA and I guess it was a good thing my friend and I got there before the bags came out, because when my bag came out it had a big red tag on it that said GUN. I didn’t do that anymore.

I don’t even get a chance to give them that stare. They aren’t seeing many resume's with experience like mine, so I figure it’s either the “agent orange†scare or the whole Vietnam thing is dating me and they don’t want any “Old folksâ€.

Funny this thread should come up at this time. I am a Vietnam era Veteran. I have been sending out some resumes lately and I just told the wife, I think I’m taking my military experience off my resume. I think it is keeping me from getting interviews.

Ammo is the only thing I buy at Wal-Mart. I can’t buy range ammo anywhere in any quantity cheaper that I can buy WWB at Wal-Mart. But the sad thing is I think the pressure being put on Wal-mart will end them carrying ammo. Our local store in Murfreesboro quit carrying guns; I don’t know if the other one over by the interstate still caries them or not.
