  1. Ok, I read the rest of the linked article, and the writer was apparently relating conditions to just 1911s and Glocks. However, I still think condition 2 is commonly used by DA auto users.
  2. Hmmm...I've never seen condition 2 (one in the chamber/hammer down) described as "dangerous." Maybe I read it wrong, but I believe condition 2 is how most double action auto users carry. He doesn't really describe how cond. 2 relates to DAs. While I'm not a fan of DA first shot/SA thereafter and got rid of my SIGs for this reason, I don't see how they can be dangerous. Maybe he is simply describing how the conditions relate to a 1911.
  3. Shot my first USPSA match today. After shooting IDPA for a year and a half, it was different to say the least. Dump partial mags everywhere, shoot out in the open, store mags all the way to the small of my back, no concealment. Had a blast, though. I'm not sure how I did, and probably still won't know when the scores are posted, because I was shooting with a bunch of open class guns w/ compensators and optics who shot several stages with one mag when I was reloading twice (I shot Production Minor with a G34). It wasn't as hard as I have been told it would be. The biggest difference between IDPA and USPSA is that in USPSA, the shooter figures out what order to shoot the targets, and thus, where to reload (if necessary). This adds an extra mental dimension to what IDPA shooters are used to, but having several minutes to study the stage and "airgun" it made it less of a challenge than I expected. Also, speed seems to be a little more important and accuracy a little less important than in IDPA. This fits my game well--I tend to get in a big hurry and get a little wild sometimes. I'm always trying to slow down and gain accuracy, and USPSA would probably hinder that a little (if I kept shooting it). It's just too tempting to haul ass. I doubt I will become a USPSA member/shooter any time soon, but I definitely plan to go back again. Highly recommended!
  4. Been there once--IIRC, it was 100 yards and was free. There is no mention of it on their website that I can find, but here is a link that shows the firing range being just southwest of the park store: http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/NatchezTrace/map.pdf
  5. I wear a Snell helmet, leather Joe Rocket jacket, leather gloves, and Setup riding boots, whether it's 15 or 95. As long as I'm moving, it's not bad. Get caught in traffic, and I burn up (when the temp is in the 90s). When people ask me, "doesn't that jacket get hot?" I say "not as hot as asphalt at 40 mph."
  6. (Walter is the male version of Anne Landers) Dear Walter: I hope you can help me here. The other day I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't gone more than a mile down the road when my engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt. I walked back home to get my husband's help. When I got home I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in our bedroom with the neighbor lady. I am 32, my husband is 34, and we have been married for twelve years. When I confronted him, he broke d own and admitted that they had been having an affair for the past six months. I told him to stop or I would leave him. He was let go from his job six months ago, and he says he has been feeling increasingly depressed and worthless. I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum he has become increasingly distant. He won't go to counseling and I'm afraid I can't get through to him anymore. Can you please help? Sincerely, Distraught in North Carolina Dear Distraught: A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking that there is no debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the vacuum pipes and hoses on the intake manifold and also check all grounding wires. If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the carburetor float chamber. [font=Times New Roma n] [/font] I hope this helps. -Walter
  7. So the real question is, did they use a 9mm or a .45?
  8. Just go to G&A to look at what you want, then go to Range USA to order it. They'll usually get it in less than a week. G&A usually has the best prices, but I'll gladly pay more somewhere else.
  9. check dawson precision: http://www.dawsonprecision.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=SIGHTS+REAR:Glock
  10. Rangemaster- every Friday night (except tomorrow) Range USA- every Tuesday night (range temporarily down) MSSA-2nd and 4th Saturday of each month I rarely miss the MSSA matches and rarely get to shoot Rangermaster or Range USA.
  11. I put these on it: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/productdetail.aspx?p=24483 plain black Sevigny Competition. I'm not a huge fan of adjustable sights, but one of the guys I shoot with has a nice adj. rear sight on his Glock. Evan, you know what Roger has?
  12. You can get a dremel tool and some polishing compound and do the same thing, but I'm lazy...
  13. That's right--the 3.5 connector is the only difference. I'm not sure why they call it a 3.5, because the 34's trigger is more like 4.5 pounds. It's a little lighter and a lot grittier than my 19's.
  14. football, camping/hiking, fishing, motorcycles.
  15. I thought it was hypocritical of him to quit South Park after they trashed Scientology. He was happy to take his paycheck while they were trashing every other group in America, but suddenly changed his mind when his work hit home. Beevis and Butthead was better, anyway.
  16. Have you ever been to Guns & Ammo?
  17. I shoot Glocks competitively because Glocks are what I carry. Some would say a 1911 has a better trigger for competition shooting, while others wouldn't. I like 1911s, but I don't think they are that much better for IDPA. I can take a Glock and hold my own against most 1911s. There are three divisions in IDPA for semi-autos: SSP (Stock Service Pistol) is for DAs and is dominated by Glocks, CDP (Custom Defense Pistol), which is where .45 1911s go, (although any .45 owner w/ eight rounds in his magazine can shoot CDP), and ESP (Enhanced Servie Pistol), which consists mostly of 9mm 1911s and slightly modified Glock 9mms and .40s. The reason I am explaining all this is to point out that most 1911 and Glock shooters technically don't shoot against each other. In reality, everyone compares their scores to everyone else. The Glock 34 has a slightly lighter trigger than other Glocks. I am thinking about putting my 19 trigger parts into the 34, mainly because I am so used to that trigger, but also because that gun has 12 or 15,000 rounds through it, and it is slick. Not light, but nicely broken in. Trust me, you don't have to be a dead-eye shot to compete.
  18. After a year of shooting IDPA with a Glock 19, I finally succumbed to the pressures of competition and got a Glock 34. I also have a Comp-Tac paddle holster on the way. Like so many, I originally started shooting IDPA to test/practice with my carry gear. I held out longer than most. I usually use a leather thumb-break holster, and sometimes wear an untucked polo as my concealment. I have even been known to shoot a subcompact at our local matches. I will still shoot a carry gun now and then just to stay sharp with it, but I decided that I need a 34 if I'm ever going to make Master. Special thanks to canynracer for talking me out of that overpriced long barrel HK P30 and convincing me that Glock is the way to go.
  19. Where can you go hiking where a permit is not required?
  20. Check with Rangemaster--I don't remember how much they were, but I'm pretty sure it was less than $25/6. Also, Guns & Ammo used to sell them individually. Keep in mind that, while you really do want five or six .38/.357s for revolver training, you only need one or maybe two 9mms.
  21. That has to be the crappiest video on the internet.
  22. A friend did the same thing with a Rock Island .38 Super and he had the same problem. He solved his problem by using 10 round 9mm magazines by Metalform, I believe.
  23. That sounds like something Marcel Ledbetter may have said.
  24. One of the guys I shot with recorded me on stages 6 and 12: [ame] [/ame][ame] [/ame]
