  1. This is how politicians decide how to vote on issues???
  2. No, you don't. You wont find any TN laws on this because TN law follows federal law.
  3. If you are a green card alien with a TN drivers license then you are eligible to buy a gun like anyone else. All you need is to put your A number and check the appropriate boxes. The 90 day business is for non-immigrant aliens (e.g. students). Once you are a citizen then you are no different from any other citizen.
  4. And you get a much wider selection of SD ammo. I currently have 5 different ones in stock. Probably 1 .380.
  5. Theodore Roosevelt (whom everybody quotes and no one reads) and Richard Nixon probably did more to create the govt we have now than any Democrat. On topic: Hillary is vindictive as hell. She hates guns, she hates the NRA and she will make our lives miserable. It would be easy to shut down every gun dealer in the country by zealous enforcement actions. This would not require legislation at all, just the right nods at ATF. And she is very capable of doing this. I would caution all those waving the flag of Ron Paul or threatening to stay at home that voting against Hillary is an imperative this time.
  6. Once or twice a week. Boy are you lucky. When I lived in Philadelphia, if I walked downtown I would get panhandled once or twice a block! Usually I just cut them off with a "sorry, I can't help you." If I am walking I ignore them and keep going. This is all behavior I learned from my mother in NYC. That and avoiding bad places.
  7. The 9mm is rapidly replacing the .380 in the small handgun category. So the Kel Tec PF9, the Kahrs and the Walther PPS are all occupying the place of the old PPK, Colts, and Mauser HSc. FWIW, I got my wife a SIG 230 and then brought home a HK P7 and she much preferred the P7, said recoil was considerably less. I would strongly take a look at the P7s since you can pick one up relatively cheaply. The SIG P6s also worth a look.
  8. Nothing obligates you to open the door to a knock at 0 dark 30. I'd wait for them and then start shooting when they come through.
  9. Please show me where I said anything like what you allege. I didn't and couldn't have. I didnt realize you have experience with members of the armed forces committing suicide. I havent read this thoroughly so cannot comment on it. I will say that is not a proxy for the ability of our troops.
  10. This is the issue with "rebates." Most of it ends up getting saved or used to reduce debt, which is the same thing. Thus the stimulus value is nil. We have been down this route before and it doesn't work as economics. It does work as politics, namely bribing us with our own money.
  11. I am sorry but your personal experience doesn't trump overall reality. Do you think we did not get our butts kicked in Vietnam? I do not mean the battles waged but the overall war. If you think we actually won then there is no point continuing the discussion. Do you think there was not massive drug use by U.S. troops both in Vietnam and immediately afterwards? If so then there is no further discussion possible. I'll leave it to someone else with more time to discuss the relative merits of an all-volunteer force vs. reluctant conscripts. I'll also leave it to someone else to point out that we havent seen too many William Calleys in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  12. I am not sure how increasing prices 30% will make them go down. Indeed, one of the talking points is that it punishes consumption. As for compliance, there is massive tax cheating on state/local sales taxes right now. Increase the incentive for that and it will grow at phenomenal rates. Smuggled goods from Mexico and Canada sold via internet would become very popular. How would you like the price of all guns to increase 30%? So teh Beretta Px4 I am selling now for $550 will suddenly be over $700. I hate taxes like the next guy but I dont see Fair Tax as a viable solution. I would greatly like to see a Flat Tax, like the dynamic economies of Europe (former Com Bloc) have enacted.
  13. They already have that ability. Not just the ability, they actually do that. Thus there is an 11% Federal excise tax on firearms and in this state a 10 cent tax on all ammunition (those little greenish stamps you see on ammo boxes).
  14. It wouldn't work because the gov't doesnt encourage necessarily one sector or another. Taxes are used as policy tools to encourage or discourage certain kinds of saving and investment. It is similar to calls to go back to the gold standard. Once you do that, you make the economy thrall to the overall gold supply. With the fair tax you place a heavy tax burden on goods sold. I suppose you could change the rate overall but then you would run a large deficit. Personally the more I think about Fair Tax the less I like it. There is plenty of tax cheating on sales tax now. I can't imagine what it would be like if you juiced rates to 30%.
  15. I'd like to shoot every public sector union leader too. People in hell want ice water. And?
  16. That doesn't really answer the question. The economy runs in cycles. Part of gov't (a large part) is spent smoothing out those cycles. If you institute a tax on sales alone, how can you change it to get the desired kind of behavior you want?
  17. Why? It actually reveals the limitation of the fair tax. How will you use the tax code to stimulate business when there is just a sales tax? The problem with this isn't the idea of using fiscal policy to influence the economy--that's fine. The problem is the proposal itself with its gimmicky "rebate". If they used the money to cut marginal tax rates, esp on business, that would be fine.
  18. Given the lay of the land that makes McCain pretty pro-gun. I'd certainly put him up against Hillary or Obama.
  19. Geez, what a windbag. While I'm not happy with the package either he didnt make any good points or propose something better. But he's still not Harold Ford.
  20. "Let me demonstrate how my gov't mandated healthcare system will work."
  21. I dont know what a GSG-5 is. Sounds like a government rank.
  22. I'd say McCain-Hillary, which looks bad for McCain. The woman is brutal and determined. Of course, she also has the highest negatives of any candidate,so maybe that's positive. I could hold my nose and vote for McCain with a gun to my head. I couldn't have with Rudy.
  23. Good news. Both Edwards and Giuliani are out of the race. You have to look for the bright spots where you can find them.
  24. That was a relief. I thought, I know I'm in TN but even here no one is going to date his own daughter. I plan on just telling the guy "ya know, I've got a shotgun AND a shovel and you'd never be missed."
