  1. I personally think ankle holsters are better than leaving the gun at home. But not by much. They are uncomfortable, awkward, and put the gun out of immediate reach, especially for us fat guys. There are any number of better options, from undershirts with holsters in them (Kramer), underwear with a holster in it (thunderwear), belly bands, cross draws, etc etc.

    single stack 9mms

Not if you carry the right loads.

That's funny, Urse. In Yiddish the word to vomit is actually "brechen." Too close for comfort.

    single stack 9mms

I have a Smith alloy frame single stack and it is one nice gun, esp for the money. Add Walther P5 to the list. Typical German police pistol: 9mm, single stack, bottom euro mag release, DA/SA trigger, head shot accuracy. The singles will fit a lot of people better, and honestly anything more than about 6 rounds is pure affectation.
  5. Look for me heading for the exits unless there is no other choice. Maybe cowering behind steel doors or something.
  6. Has anyone seen this show on Comedy Central? I watched some clips off the website. Honestly, anyone who makes fun of Obama is OK in my book. But they contacted me. Seems they are doing a segment on Doug Jackson, state senator from Dickson, as a hero for introducing legislation allowing carry "in bars." (yes yes, I know it wont allow that). So they want to interview a gun dealer as well, and.... Wondering what anyone's take on that is.
  7. Boy are you dating yourself or what?
  8. O.K. What's your back-up career plan?
  9. I guess now that you sold the Steyr you can afford to plunk down over $800 on a new Kimber.
  10. I was told by my rep yesterday that KelTec has just filed suit for infringement. The advantage of the ruger, which costs about $15 more than the kel drekk wholesale, is that 1) Ruger has a lot more experience with production so hopefully QC will be better; 2) You can get the darn things. So many of Kel Tec's products become unavailable for a while it is just frustrating.
  11. Yup. And now our wonderful gov't is sending money to people who don't pay taxes. So it's a win-win.
  12. What was wrong with the old format? At least then I could find what I wanted.
  13. It was just as illegal in NOLA and that didnt stop the JBTs from carrying it out. But you confirm my point that probably few to no LEs would hesitate if given the order. It's their job. Ours is making sure it never comes to that.
  14. .45acp is a lousy penetrator, fat and slow moving. The hot 9mm is much more effective against armor. If you are aiming a .45 at a guy with armor you ought to hope he is a bad shot.
  15. I'm all in favor of shooting UT alumni. A guy from Vanderbilt, a guy from UT, and a guy from MTSU were all walking along a country road. They came up on a pig that had gotten caught trying to get under a fence and had its rear end sticking out towards them. The Vanderbilt guy looks at it and says "man, I wish it was Giselle Bundchen." The UT guy looks at it and says "man, I wish it was Brittany Spears." The MTSU guy says "man, I wish it was dark."
  16. Steelharp, You didn't object to being the whipping boy last Saturday night.... Oh, and what do you want me to do with your Speedos and the gorilla costume?
  17. My 2 1/2 Smith is defective because they didnt include a lug for the bayonet. But i have another word: Headshot.
  18. It is going to depend entirely on what he wants to do with the gun. A concealed carry revolver is not the same item as a full-sized 9mm. For something just to learn how to shoot and provide home defense, either a Smith Model 10/64 in .38spc or a 9mm 3rd generation Smith or even Ruger would work fine.
  19. I used to poo-poo the idea that an assailant might be wearing a bullet proof vest (or whatever the term of art is today). But I recently asked a Metro SWAT officer how often he runs into that and the answer was that is isn't uncommon. So, given that the likelihood of any of that is slim, very slim, I wonder what an effective response might be. For a 9mm, loading the 3rd or 4th round with +P ball should yield good results. You could do something similar with .357mag or .357Sig. For .45acp people are probably sad outta luck.
  20. And who determines what the Constitution means? You? I think not.
  21. The little Minx is just a cute gun. Totally impractical for self defense, being a single action in .22short but cute and interesting none the less.
  22. I just love threads like this. Gives the keyboard kommandos something to sound off about. Let's start with the impossibility of it happening. It ain't gonna. OK? Is that clear? I'll bet money to anyone on this board on that. Second, let's get the LE perspective. I notice no LE's have responded. Law enforcement does not tend to recruit from the ranks of philosophy majors. They aren't into deep consideration of the morals or ethics of a particular law. That's OK by me, incidentally. Law enforcement officers are sworn to uphold the law. If a bill is passed by the legislature and signed by the executive (or otherwise not stopped) then it's the law of the land. Anyone seeking to violate the law of the land is a domestic enemy. So the military types better rethink their oath. LE's generally take the mindset that they are there to enforce the law. It's actual legality is not really a concern. There were no LEs I am aware of who even questioned the order to confiscate in New Orleans, much less refused it. There might have been one but there was no resistance at all. And there were no LE's who enforced the order who suffered sanctions of any kind, despite the fact that the order was a clear violation of Louisiana's state constitution and an over-reach of authority by the mayor. LEs just don't sit around and decide whether a particular law is legal or not, that is a court's job to decide. So don't count on your local Officer Friendly to let you off. Gun owners are a pretty law-abiding sort. That's a good thing. But it is nothing short of amazing to see people going beyond what the law actually requires. Witness the idiotic document for use between two private parties available elsewhere on this site. The document has no legal authority whatsoever. No law mandates its use. Anyone lying on it is not subject to any sanctions at all. It confers no protection on either the buyer or seller. And yet some people here insist on it. Or the people who will not do a face to face private sale between people from contiguous states. Despite the fact that there is virtually no way for law enforcement to discover it and to my knowledge no one has been prosecuted for it. Or the people who insist on complying with the minimum parts requirements on foreign-made parts kits, despite the fact that the law in unenforceable and, again to my knowledge, no one has ever been prosecuted for it. So now these same people are going to become paragons of civil disobedience and armed resistance? Gimmeabreak! No, when there is a knock at the door and Mr. JBT is there with a warrant to search for guns, everyone here is going to look at his wife/kids and the possibility of either certain death or time in the slammer and tell the good officer whatever he wants to know. I know that doesn't make good internet reading and is less exciting than a Rambo-style blaze of glory. But that's the reality. I personally have no problem with martyrdom, but it's sure not going to be over a gun.
  23. You dont say what you're shooting. Personally I think the problem is that it looks like a 9mm. That's way too much gun for a little lady. Someone could get hurt with that thing, if you know what I mean. No, women shouldn't have access to big guns like that. Maybe a 2-shot derringer in .22 short or something. Just scare the guy. That's really all you need. Maybe some pretty pearl grips on it too--something feminine ya know.
  24. warped minds thing alike. Count me in the roundup category. I'm starting with Gcrookston's house.
