  1. Yes, that's correct. I was told by ATF that I could not sell both an upper and a lower AR to the same person or else I'd be considered a manufacturer (instead of a dealer). the issue is that every firearm produced has an 11% excise tax. This is why building your own AR is more cost effective--you avoid this tax.
  2. Clinton is "Number Two" in my book, if you get my drift. In some ways Obama is better simply because without connections and with a very radical agenda he will get nothing done and be voted out after 4 years.
  3. This is how I strip them.
  4. I didnt know whether to start a new thread or continue this one. People have talked about a Dem in the White House banning guns etc. I dont think this will happen. But consider this: one of the most "popular" measures is the so-called "gun show loophole". It would be relatively easy (relative to other measures)to get that passed. It would require all transactions be done through an FFL. At the same time it would take only a presidential directive to put every FFL out of business, maybe leaving one in each market. That would effectively restrict gun transfers even without legislation. And with Hillary, you are dealing with someone who has the desire to punish her enemies, namely the NRA. Scary stuff.
  5. Why is that a "right" that needs a gov't fiat? If you are doubtful about the product, don't buy it. Very simple. I am reasonably sure that most companies will respond to inquiries as to where their product comes from. I already see companies touting their product as "organic" or "not from GMO" and selling them at a premium. More power to them. I remember once having an issue with some colored bell peppers from Israel. I needed to know whether they adhered to certain agricultural laws. This was a small company in israel and they responded by email in a relatively short time.
  6. Well, let's start with the beginning of the decade. We had our butts handed to us in Vietnam. Our military had a reputation just above drug addict. In some cases no different. Our commitments to allies were all in doubt. Then there was Watergate. It is hard to recall just how scandalous all that was. At one point there was nearly a show down between the executive and judicial branch. There were many fears of Nixon declaring martial law. They had more credibility than anything anyone says about Bush today. Moving right along, there was Ford, not elected either vice president or president. His solution to growing inflation was to send out WIN buttons. Ford got shellacked by Carter, a non-entitity in the next election. The Russians were kicking butt all over the world, signing up governments and expanding theirr influence. Inflation ran into the double digits and unemployment was probably close to double today's rate. Factories were closing left and right as the Japanese took aim at our manufacturing capacity (sound familiar?). Remember the "Misery Index"? Remember gasoline rationing? The meat protest? So today we sit with an inflation rate about 4% and an unemployment rate about 5% and people complain. We are the sole superpower, with influence all over the world. Our military is the best in the business. We compete succesfully in many profitable areas around the globe. Are you still going to argue that the 1970s were some salad days that we should yearn for??
  7. Sure, why wouldn't it be? The food you eat right now is genetically altered. Probably every type of produce was unknown 200 years ago. Now there is a move for "heritage" tomatoes and such. That is simply recovering old species. The new species came into being through selective breeding, i.e. genetic alteration. Whether you accomplish that by altering DNA the new fangled way or by selective breeding, it is the same thing.
  8. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0MMu5_gDN4[/ame] If you weren't there then you just cannot appreciate how awful it was. Is there anything remotely comparable to KC and teh Sunshine Band? No, I tell you. We live in a paradise by comparison.
  9. Pretty cool holster. IWB with outside pouch for the blackberry or a version for a cell phone. Company out of Gun Barrel TX. I couldnt make that up if I tried.
  10. There might be a reason for that, beyond conspiracy theories. It might actually be that there are NO changes whatsoever. We have about 40 years' experience with microwave cooking. Any significant patterns would have emerged by now. They haven't.
  11. Actually the spiral started in the 1840s when we had large immigration from Europe. It intensified under Bush and the "neo-cons." Oh, silly me. Most of the people here are descended from people who immigrated either then or later. And we all know what "neo con" is a code word for. No, there is no death spiral. Things are substantially better now than they were in,say, the 1970s. We face problems different from past generations, mainly due to increased speed and lower cost of communication. I am in no position to know whether the Pentagon's one sole "expert" actually knows anything about "jihadi Islam". I would venture to say neither does anyone else here.
  12. I received this off the uber-liberal E.Nashville list-serve. Of course I immediate emailed my rep to oppose the measure. I pointed out that regulation always imposes a cost, usually on the consumer. In this case the cost will fall hardest on poor and working class people. And of course it is merely "feel good" legislation.
  13. Dude, those "grateful women" from WW1 and 2 are either in their 80's or over 100. I'd talk to the younger ones but their English is probably better than mine.
  14. I'll mention that shops generally won't carry them because they are a crappy low margin item. the parts are even worse because anyone can just mail order them from dozens of suppliers. That said, I usually have Essential Arms lowers for about $110. I currently have a DPMS for $120.
  15. I run a gun shop. Eventually I might make some money doing it. Other interests include home schooling my 13 yr old son, studying Torah, and reading, especially memoirs of soldiers in Vietnam.
  16. I own and manage residential property and invest, primarily in stocks. As a side hobby I also run a gun shop.
  17. A gun used for self defense is potentially always ready for use. Therefore always loaded. A gun about to be cleaned is not.
  18. Sub is not out but the .45 is. I have fondled them but thats it. Cant wait to shoot one. All the reports I hear are great.
  19. Or you could just do it right the first time.
  20. So this morning the weather looked lousy and I didnt think I'd go to Brush Creek for the club match. But lo and behold it cleared up nicely. Since I hadnt expected to go, I wound up at the shop without my equipment. When I made the decision I looked around to see what I had to compete with and the likeliest candidate was a Gen3 Glock 23 in .40 Now, I have to say, that although Fitty Sen, Too Short, and other rappers talk about the Glock Foty, I am the only one on this forum, that I know of, professional enough to handle that----OUCH! Anyway, I have never shot the 23 before. I was using a Predator holster from the shop, an inside the waistband job with an outside attachment for a Blackberry. It worked OK when I got it situated. The gun felt kind of bulky in there. I'm sort of a fat guy so I wouldnt recommend the 23 for IWB carry. It came out of the holster OK. Sights were the standard variety so acquistion was pretty quick. The big downside I found was the recoil, which was way too much. Follow up shots were hard to make. I didnt really notice the trigger, so I guess that was good. The gun seemed like a great candidate for the spray n' pray style of shooting, thus of immediate interest to LE departments. I did fine in the competition, with a zero down stage, a one down stage, and a 3 down stage after the initial getting used to the gun thing. It functioned perfectly with ball, hollow point, and Blazer aluminum cased ammo, something in the same magazine. I found the mag release didnt fit my hand too well and I had to cant my hand around to reach it properly. That of course is an individual thing. Overall, while I admire the 19 (the 9mm version) quite a bit and would probably carry one, I don't see a lot of upside the .40. But YMMV. In all, the Glock would be tremendously improved by the addition of a circular magazine that would flip out from the frame.
  21. Rule #1: Keep guns unloaded until ready to use. Rule #2: Always keep muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Rule #3: Keep finger out of trigger well until ready to shoot. It isn't that tough. Honestly your buddy is a chowder-head if he succeeded in doing that kind of damage.
  22. Your soul is in great need of tikkun, CrazyLincoln. You need a Smith&Wesson to make it right.
  23. The bill makes no exception for law enforcement. That means every police dep will have to comply as well. I'd count this miserable POS legislation as dead on arrival. Geez, what are these people smoking? Last year they outlawed bestiality, like that was a big problem in this state. Now this. You would think they could do something worthwhile, like lowering the sales tax rate and putting in caps on tort damages.
  24. Fortunately Mr. Ruger is on that big shooting range in the sky. And his son is out of the business.
  25. I have had a subscription to the Wall St Journal for probably 10 years or more and read it longer than that. My parents were avid NYTimes fans, being left wing liberals and all. I couldnt stand the paper after about my first year in college and stopped reading it. So this morning the paper carrier made a mistake and threw a NYTimes on my lawn instead of the Journal. I hesitated to bring it in the house. I actually read the editorials. Today they endorse Hillary (surprise) and McCain (usually a good reason to vote for someone else). But the content of the editorials, their smarmy comments and unsupported assertions, made me gag on my grits. If anyone ever wanted to see left wing fantasy in action, go look at the Times editorial page.
