Do you have a clue as to what you are posting? Even Browning didnt think the 1911 was perfection. He said the Hi Power corrected the problems of the 1911. I personally don't know what he meant. I cannot think of a single military that ever adopted the 1911 into widespread use. The Hi Power, otoh, was adopted all over Europe and Canada. What features of the 1911 have been copied elsewhere? I can't think of any. I can't think of any single-action pistols (other than the CZ 52) that have been designed post WW2 for that matter. Virtually all of them are double/single action, and copy the pattern of the Walther P1. If they aren't DA/SA then they are DAO and probably copy the old Colt hammerless design. So I am still waiting to hear how Browning "perfected" the pistol in the 1911 and what features were universally adopted after him.

We discussed that, and polishing the sides. The problem is that high polish will show up everything. Bead blasting is great for covering scratches, gouges, etc And the gun originally looked just like this.

Now you goin down, mutherf****!!!! We gonna mess you up badder than Henny Dog on Saturday nite. Anyway, I would not be pleased that someone recommended a J-frame. I would be pleased that someone recommended someone look at a J-frame. They have limitations and won't work for everyone. There is one guy here (you all know who I mean) who gives the carry permit class and insists that everyone carry a Ruger SP101. Now the Ruger is a great gun and has its place. But they are hard to shoot well, heavy, and someone with a weaker index finger will have trouble pulling the trigger. So when someone asks me, what is the best gun, I respond each person will find what works best for him. For some it will be the Glock, for others a J-frame, others a Smith M&P, others a SIG etc. They are all great guns and deadly in the hands of someone who knows how to use one. As for the OP, I do not think she is a troll. I do think she is largely clueless and facing issues well beyond which gun to buy.

+1. +1,000 for that matter. I think everything constructive that can be said has been said already. The good ideas have been echoed and the bad ideas have (largely) been exposed for the buffoonery they are. Let's move on. Now, when you get your carry permit, make sure to carry concealed because otherwise the state will change the laws and make open carry illegal. And besides, only a noob Rambo-wannabe carries openly.

The Steyr is a great gun--the only polymer gun I've liked shooting. It will do very well in IDPA competition.

Check the rule book on the IDPA site. They list mods that can be done. Anything else is out of bounds. In general stuff you might do for a carry gun is OK. Stuff you do for a race gun is not. I personally shoot the gun I carry, in this case a Smith 19 2 1/2 inch. I think it is gaming to do otherwise.

I'm not gay but people think my boyfriend is....

How much for the little girl?

You wouldn't think an AG from a state not noted for gun-friendliness would be pro-RKBA. But you'd be wrong. No "right to hunting" pablum here. Here he is in today's WSJ:

Dude, you calling me a girl too?

Geez what a stupid question. No, I'm kidding. It's a good question. The answer is that once you turn 21 your parents arent responsible for you regardless of their support. Of course they can always threaten to withold support if you buy the gun since they aren't obligated to you. And needless to say, there is some attorney out there who could probably make the case they were because they have more money than you. But that's a very remote possibility that would only come into play if you did something incredibly dumb. Sounds like you need to engage in some salesmanship with your mother to demonstrate your trustworthiness.

1) You buy the gun that fits you best. If possible, go to a range that rents them and try a few. It's a small investment of time and money that will yield big savings down the road. Or get a friend who's into guns to take you shooting and let you try a few. Try different calibres and styles and see what you're most comfortable with. Consider cost of ammo when making decisions. Yes, the bigger the gun and the heavier it is the easier it will be to shoot. 2) To buy a gun you go to the store, pick one out and fill out Federal Form 4473 which will ask you a bunch of questions. Ask if you dont understand any of them. You will need a picture id with your current address, like a drivers license. There are various things that can disqualify you but if you dont have any felony convictions or domestic violence issues then you're probably fine. 3) I like used guns like I like used cars, for about the same reason. If you dont know what to look for though it can be costly. Yes, guns do wear out although they have pretty good longevity. Somewhere on here is a review of a gun I bought that is about 100 years old. And works OK. The better ones tend to be police trade-ins. They will have holster wear and some cosmetic issues but will work fine since overall cops dont shoot much. Good luck, welcome to the board, and ask questions. The only stupid one is the one you don't ask.

This was some work for a good friend of mine who owns a c-store on Gallatin Rd. So he needs a gun. Or 20. This is his Colt 1991A1. Dad bought it new but obviously it's been thrown around a good bit. And again: So I suggested a nice refinish job to bring it back into something. Functionally it worked 100% (he had concerns about the springs, unfounded as it turned out). So it was just a finish. The first step was disassembly: And then some work with a blast cabinet, courtesy of John at JMR Gunsmithing, Brush Creek. Final assembly and a little polish and voila! (pardon the French): Just like new. Try doing that with a blued or nickled gun....

With an avatar like that you've got friends:D On another note, if you're being treated for the depression fully expect a question about firearms ownership in the home from your doctor. I discussed this once with my brother (a hospice physician who naturally deals a lot with depression) and he said a physician would be negligent if he did not ask such a question. How you handle it is up to you.

I assume RA=Remington Arms, WCC= WInchester Cartridge Company and I dunno about WRA. 42 is probably 1942. I have shot ammo just like that. IN the SIG 220 it worked just fine. Yes it is corrosive. Yes, do clean it thoroughly. I dont know about ammonia or soap and water. People today tend to treat corrosive ammo like it was the plague or something. But how often did troops in the jungles of Borneo get to clean weapons?

What requirements are there other than the class, the fingerprints, the paperwork, the background check, and of course the money?
-
If diagnosed depression were a disqualifying factor I think about 2/3 of gun owners would be ineligible. Even a stay in a psych unit does not disqualify, unless it was mandated by a court.

It depends on the application. You dont see too many doubles produced today. Probably because the market for people who can afford $100k safaris is pretty limited. The bolt is good in all kinds of applications for long range precision shooting. But applications that dont require long range precision shooting (e.g. deer hunting in this area) dont need that and are well suited to, e.g. levers.

I dunno. Double rifle? Krieghoff, Merkel, etc etc. Even in the category of "big game gun" the double rifle has competition from the bolt gun.

Better a Brendel than a Block...

Let's review the law here. Deadly force is allowed to neutralize the threat. That is what happened. Deadly force is not allowed to kill the BG. The purpose is not to kill the BG and heaven help you if you say thats what you wanted. In this case (as in a lot) the private citizen used his gun to neutralize the threat. The fact that the BG got away unscathed with money is irrelevant.

That would be about the only way he's gonna get there....

Huckabee is sort of interesting and funny. If his name were Smith he'd have a better shot at it. This particular ad just falls flat though.

Kosher supervision. And I'd dispute whether canned artichokes really need it.
