  1. NP. Pinned refers to the barrel. If you notice on the pic there is a pin about where the barrel meets the frame. They don't make them like that anymore. Recessed refers to the cylinder charge holes. Notice on the pic how the holes are recessed slightly into the cylinder. The cartrides will sit flush with the top of the cylinder. This theoretically makes for faster reloading, sort of the way magazine wells are bevelled. Smith always did this on their revolvers. It was a little more expensive. In later years the bean counters convinced management that cutting it out would save money and not hurt quality.
  2. Yeah. Who'd want to learn from a lard-ass like this guy?
  3. You got that straight. Go ahead and laugh at this man while you're at it (that's a 19 P&R he's holding btw):
  4. I didn't need that keyboard anyway... Can you say "missing the point"? That was funny.
  5. Excuse me, you are speaking about a pinned and recessed Smith Model 19. From the factory it was about as perfect as guns get. A used Ruger SP101 in no way can compare with this Smith. Yes, this one has had a rough life from the look of it. It has been misunderstood. It has been misused. Given enough love it can again regain it's initial glory and stand tall. What do people spend to recondition an old beater of a mil spec 1911? And at the end of all that they still have second rate. There is nothing second rate about this gun.
  6. My experience is the opposite: ARMs are always a good idea. You just have to know what the idea is.
  7. Funny you say that. In about 1963 the Army (or some gov.ag.) commissioned a study of battle rifles. They discovered that most encounters occurred at 300 yards and less, and that most wounds were not the result of aimed fire. Thus the move to a smaller, lighter cartridge coupled with a high rpm rifle, the AR series. The doctrine of "the rifleman" just didn't stand up. It remains an enduring myth of the military, much as the cavalry charge was up to WWI. Out in the open I'll opt for Cobras, napalm, arty and anything else that can be called in.
  8. Only if it looks like this: Note the half-moon front sight, invented by Browning. Also the grips, invented by Browning. Prior to that people held handguns in their teeth. Really!
  9. That really was a winner. I would post it to the East Nashville list-serve but I'm afraid my shop would get firebombed. People take their pets waaay too seriously.
  10. In competition I shoot 158gr Blazer 38 +Ps through mine. For carry I am using the 145gr Speer Gold Dot .357. I never have a problem with sticking. Clean the charge holes thoroughly and dont oil them. Check and make sure there isn't anything funny going on inside, like pitting and the like. Cases will stick slightly with the shorter extractor rod anyway. The procedure , according to Ed Lovette in The Snubby (a great great book) is to turn the gun barrel facing upwards, spank the extractor rod to eject, turn the gun over and reload.
  11. They'd shoot 5 rounds instead of 6. They would feed any FMJ you could throw at them reliably. They would regularly group all 5 shots in 6 inches at 25 yards. Later companies would modify them to be accurate and reliable, but would charge $2,000 to do it. And their fans would swear it was the greatest design ever.
  12. She's pretty hot looking. Was she like that up close?
  13. Yeah. transparant. Whatever.
  14. Where was this? Do you remember any details?
  15. Says it all.....
  16. I dunno. Is this her? You know any of these guys backing her up? [ame] [/ame]
  17. So Hillary unveiled a plan to solve the mortgage crisis. Of course it will do no such thing. Calling for further disclosure is senseless. It is already one of the most opaque businesses in the country. I don't know of too many business where the seller has to disclose to the buyer exactly how much money he makes in the transaction. [high horse] I worked in that business, specifically sub-prime, specifically manufactured housing, for 9 years. I sold hundreds of adjustable rate sub prime mortgages, many with pre-payment penalties (something Hillary wants to outlaw). In every case I counselled the buyers. I was dealing largely with people who had rough or limited credit. That's why I was there. If not for me they wouldn't have gotten a house at all. I told them: pay your mortgage on time for 24 months. Do not take out any more debt. Pay your bills and save money. At the end of that you will have 2 years of strong credit history with money in the bank. You will be able to refinance into a prime-credit loan and save money. Sadly most of them didn't listen. They continued doing what they had always done and ended up in foreclosure or bankruptcy or both. I remember one loan, on Joseph Street. The lady's husband was in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. She was swimming in debt. We consolidated her loans and got her cash to pay out her husband's bankruptcy. Her total monthly payments were lower by about $500. I counselled her to pay this and not take any more loans. A year later she called. She had quit her full time job to sell Mary Kay. She hadn't paid off her husband's bankruptcy because "he was afraid they'd ask where the money came from." We pulled her credit. In the previous 12 months she had applied for and received credit every month, at least once a month. Accounts we had paid off she had charged up again. She had opened new accounts and run them up. I was totally disgusted. She needs to be a on a cash basis for the rest of her life. The whole mess needs to be left alone. The market will take care of the greedy and reward the prudent. This is what needs to happen. [/high horse]
  18. D-I-V-O-R-C-E. Didn't someone used to sing that, Mikey?
  19. Make fun of it???? Heaven forbid! The ugliest Model 19 outshines the nicest semi.
  20. Actually it sounds like the blast pushed the rest of the gun back and the cylinder was impinged on the forcing cone. This happens. You can take a little off the barrel end. Or my advice: Don't shoot 125gr bullets in the gun! I see no advantage to the load anyway.
  21. The point about each generation is unsubstantiated. The Post WW1 generation was excoriated as soft and pleasure seeking. So was the post Civil War generation, aka the Gilded Age. Polls show that very few people believe Social Security will pay out when they retire. It is a case of a very interested few outshouting the slightly interested many. I do not know that one can characterize a seat belt law as a do-gooder. I have not seen figures on whether instituting the law actually reduced fatalities. That would be key to deciding how to characterize it.
  22. No, Huckabee wont be elected because Republicans are held in as much regard as OJ Simpson. Maybe less. The GOP has squandered the moral authority it held as small government tax cutters. Voters won't trust them ans people are tired of a Republican in the White House. I agree his name, and nickname the huckster, won't help him any.
  23. Sorry. I forgot you were the only one, that you knew of, professional enough to handle a firearm.....
  24. Can we just post this comment the next time a Glock thread comes around? Save us all lots of time and trouble.
  25. The NRA's Four Rules Of Gun Safety: 2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. Found here: http://www.aaof.com/gsr.htm Yeah, a lot of people in 'Nam kept their fingers on the triggers of the M16. That's why "friendly fire" statistics were so high. My mother is a terrible driver and when I mention this to her she tells me, "I've been driving since before you were born." Doing something wrong for 5,10, 50 years doesn't make it right. Glocks are a lot less forgiving of violating the rules than other guns. But that doesn't mean the shooter isn't culpable for basic safety violation. If you want to go around with your finger on the trigger all the time, go right ahead. But when you have a ND and kill someone go ahead and tell the DA about your superior experience. Geez, yet another Glock bashing thread. Where's the barf smiley?
