Since I dont want any manual safety on my gun I would pass this one up.

trading handguns without a transfer
The Rabbi replied to Mike.357's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
A person presenting me with that bill of sale would be told to get lost in short order. I think a simple BOS with the gun's make, model, caliber and serial number noted would suffice. fwiw, I took in a gun from a customer that turned out to be stolen. I had suspected as much when the customer (not my brightest) told me he had bought it out of the Traders Post from a guy who had a bunch of guns in his house to sell. Metro came and picked it up and asked about the customer. I supplied his name and contact info. That was the last anyone heard. I checked with the customer and he told me they had never contacted him about it. People are consistent. A guy with a clean record and a job isn't likely to go out and steal a gun or commit a crime. And Metro is too busy to go weed out the 1 case in a thousand where that might happen. -
This was inspired by the 1911 discussion and some in-store discussions I've had. A customer was looking at a Marlin 30-30 I've got and commented on how the gun is about ideal for hunting deer in this area. He noted and I agreed that the accuracy of the gun, the caliber, and the action were all perfectly suited to its purpose: shooting deer at 100 yards or less in the eastern U.S. This is probably why Marlin/Winchester etc have made this gun in this caliber for probably 100 years. Similarly is the Smith j-frame, usually in .38spc. For its intended purpose there is really nothing better. Any attempt to make it better only takes away something else. Probably why the gun has been a standard for 50 years What other guns out there are "category killers" where any attempt to improve on it only introduces other problems? I am thinking the Rem 870 12ga pump, the .50BMG (is that the M2 machine gun?), and the Mauser rifle (at least the bolt action design). Others?

trading handguns without a transfer
The Rabbi replied to Mike.357's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Nope, no difference. In my pre-FFL days I bought and sold handguns in parking lots over car hoods. I loved it. Nothing illegal. But I would look for that to be the next area of "gun control"--all resales must go through an FFL. And I think the Dealers association is the one pushing it. fwiw, I am personally opposed to any such scheme, just on principle. -
If the video as outdated information it is up to the instructor to correct that in class, citing statute if need be. Obviously the individual is ultimately responsible. But the instructor gets paid for teaching correct information.
-
Would depend when you took the class. If it was within the last 5 years or so then the sheriff's dept hasn't kept up with the law. Imagine that: a law enforcement officer unfamiliar with the laws he is supposed to enforce. Whodathunkit??

Like a bris.....
-
That was the British load of WW2 or so. Their theory was 200 grains is 200 grains, regardless of how shaped. I do not know why the load fell into disfavor. I have a couple of rounds of 200 gr .38 S&W at the shop. I might have a .38spc that way. I think 200 gr as a hollow point semi wadcutter would be an awesome self defense round.

I like to say the gun was designed to be built a certain way and used a certain way. The further you get from that, the less good it becomes. The gun was designed to be made from machined steel pieces hand fitted by trained technicians. Its purpose was to propel .45acp ball ammunition and hit a man-sized target at 50 yards or less with good reliability. Compared to what was available at the time it was an innovation. But if the 1911 had never been invented and someone came out with the design today it would be relegated to the ranks of Lorcin and Raven.

It'll keep popping up as long as politicians can demagogue the issue. This has been on and off on the national radar since, iirc, 1984. It comes and goes as people pay attention to it.

If it ain't a Pony, it's a phony. Welcome.

Aw geez, not this **** again.....

Have you seen the cell phone gun?
The Rabbi replied to a topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I must have one! If they remake Goldfinger that will be what he has. In the original he has a gold cigarette case, lighter, and pen that fit together to make a gun. In today's namby-pamby anti-smoking world a cigarette case is off limits. -
Boston Police want warrantless searches for guns
The Rabbi replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I liked the comment that said "any time police try to do an end run around the Constitution I get queasy." Is there anything strictly illegal about this? No. Does it set a really bad precedent, taking advantage of people's fears and their ignorance to increase police power? Yes. Is this a good thing? No. Parents can call cops anytime to come search their houses. Why they couldnt do it themselves is beyond me, but thats another issue. Sending undercover cops door to door is bad. I get Black guys in my shop and over the summer one complained that cops would come up to him and ask if they could search him. He responded, no, can I search you? OT, how many people would be interested in a one evening lecture on civil rights in every day life, given by a practicing attorney? -
Yeah. But it worked.
-
Nothing is safe to assume. But I would go ahead and get the gun anyway. If you get denied for that, then you'll know you've got a problem. Twenty four days is nothing in gov't time, especially ahead of a holiday.

I think they lost a lot of people on their foreign policy. Or lack of it. It's personal with me since my father in law was a refugee from Hitler's Germany.
-
No, an extra 15%. The money will go for history books for anyone thinking of voting for Ron Paul.
-
Every gun has limitations. But the J-frame is supreme for its intended purpose. Len, keep in mind that Democrats in my shop are subject to a 10% AMT ("Alternative Morality Tax") on all purchases. Proceeds go for the children. My children, that is.

I don't even know where Cowan is. Didn't you have to get some kind of special permit to offer Eye-talian food in the county? Is this a commie Muslim plot to undermine the fiber of America's manhood?
-
Unsolicited advice, worth what you're paying for it: grip the gun as high up the backstrap as you can. This will reduce recoil. Grip it as tightly as you can to gain control. Try practicing with HBWC loads. For further out shots try staging the trigger. Enjoy. They aren't fun guns to shoot really. This is why I sometimes discourage people from getting them as a first gun. But they are the gold standard for carry and ECQB.

Link no work. Plug away, that's what we're here for. Who knows, maybe there is a recovering anorexic on the board looking for a place to bulk up at.
-
I had no idea that was you. If I had known...I would have jacked the price 15%. But yes, firearms are among the least complicated implements in modern life (I have no idea how my daughter's iPod works) and yet people have been cowed into thinking they are only for the super gung ho. Even the idea that "personal protection is your responsibility" (to crib the ad line from Charter2000) has been eclipsed into "let the police handle it."

But when it came out, 40 S&W was the only auto cartridge that really bridged the gap between 9 and .45. Now you've got .40, and .357SIG competing for that niche with .40 pretty well established.

Well said. As the late Tommy St Charles told me about a vest: if a man made it, it can fail.
