  1. There was a Supreme Court case, Thompson Center v U.S. on this. Thompson was sending out kits with a pistol and longer barrel and stock conversion to a carbine. ATF sued saying they were sending out NFA weapons and not paying the tax on it (it always comes down to money). The Supreme Court held that just because something could be configured in an illegal way didn't mean that it had to be that way. i.e., if you have a short upper and a pistol lower then just because you have a rifle lower and could make an SBA out of it doesn't mean automatically that it is an SBA. Based on ATF's reasoning, anyone with a shotgun and a hacksaw could be prosecuted.
  2. Well, Armageddon/TEOFWAWKI/Whatever has been predicted for over a thousand years. And it hasn't happened yet. The notion that "no, this time it will be different" belongs in the category of conspiracy theory where every proof against it becomes further evidence for its existence.
  3. ......
  4. Someone over on the officer forums (forums.officer.com) was trying to sell a Ruger 6 recently. There must be a Ruger forum as well where people buy, sell, trade. The Six series were excellent guns. I've sold a couple and shot one. They are rather heavy for concealed carry though. But to each his own.
  5. My understanding is that buying a rifle and remaking it into a pistol is a no-no. The other way around is probably OK. In either case I really don't see how anyone can determine anything beyond the basic configuration of the weapon. I mean, if it has a short barrel AND a shoulder stock then it is an NFA weapon. If it doesn't, then it isn't.
  6. I have both a DSL line and a dial up connection. I feel I am well prepared for any emergency likely to occur. Oh, and another refrigerator in the basement with some beer in back. Sheesh. Some people take things waay too seriously.
  7. Listen to Urse, he's a Kalashnikovik.
  8. John Harris made a point like that when I talked to him once, that he wasn't in favor of the Feds imposing on states' rights. My answer is that while in theory that is true, in practice the Feds trample on states' rights every chance they get. What is the drinking age in NY? What is it here? What is it in CA? All 21, although it didnt use to be like that. Ditto on the late, unlamented 55MPH limit. So if the Feds are going to abuse states' rights, at least let's make them do it in some constructive way. The right to carry is a right in TN, according to the state constitution. The fact that it is not administered that way is sort of irrelevant.
  9. When you say 7.62, are you talking 7.62NATO or 7.62x39? Big difference there. Do you want a semi-auto or a bolt? What do you want to do with the gun? If it were me, I'd look for a Polish underfolder AK with wood foregrip by Ironwood. But that's me. Price is obviously a big consideration. In .308 the top dogs are the Springfield M14 clones and the HK G3. At the cheap end is the Saiga .308. In 7.62x39 the cheap end is the SKS (I've got one for $150) while the high end is the Arsenal Bulgarian AKs. CZ makes a bolt carbine in that caliber.

    Sig P250

Another polymer-framed sissy gun. It doesn't make my heart race like a SIG P220 SAO.
  11. The world is ending. I agree 100% with Marswolf. I don't see the need for censoring software. On one board you can't even talk about Dick Cheney, much less write n1gger. I thought this is why we had moderators.
  12. Hey, I've been called worse things by the frequent travellers on the Hershey Highway....
  13. For many years a marriage between a Black and White done in New York would not be recognized in, say, Mississippi. This was, I guess, perfectly legal even with the full faith and credit clause. I for one would happily trade gay marriage for universal carry privilages.
  14. I agree with the sign: no HKs should be allowed.
  15. Buckmark was my first gun. Having said that, I'd vote for the Ruger Mark Whatever. Far and away a better design and better value than either of those.
  16. I'm your gun bitch, Urse.
  17. Did I mention I have a scope mount to convert the side-mount rail to a weaver rail? The Tantal is a very nice gun. I would about get one for myself. Unfortunately an AK is low on my want list right now.
  18. What country does this guy live in? This is typical of leftists. Racism is rampant only among the left. Unemployment is at the lowest point in decades. Social alienation? Probably on the writer, who gets left off more invite lists than Don Imus. With such a tenuous grasp of reality it is no wonder he can't understand guns.
  19. No. Black Muslim.
  20. VK, thanks. I deeply appreciate people thinking of me. Really. I will point out that this holiday is Chanuka, not new year's, which was back in Sept sometime. Whatever.
  21. Agreed 100%. But I can't choose my customers' likes and dislikes. I can only cater to them. That is my job.
  22. Steelharp had one. It was the biggest, heaviest gun I've probably held that wasn't made by IMI. I'll pitch it though. It is accurate with good trigger and recoil is minimal.
  23. I would answer honestly but dont want to start a flame war. Let me just say that overall my impression has been that they are not a value proposition for the consumer.
  24. OK, sometimes you are just out of options. I have a customer interested in a full size, hi cap (i.e. more than 8 rounds) .45acp pistol. Carry isn't an issue. Price isn't much of an issue. He doesn't like the Smith M&P--looks. Doesn't like the Springfield--grip safety. Doesn't like the Paraordnance--some reason or other Is leaning towards the H&K, which is about my last choice in a gun. Already has a SIG P220. I might try pitching the full sized Glock in .45 or even 10mm. Any choices I am forgetting here?
  25. The voice of reason. I often say that getting ahead requires some very simple job skills, like being able to show up on time, sober, and ready to work. That sounds easy, yet it is amazing how few people can actually accomplish that (that includes me, btw--I'm always late for work but being self-employed I can get away with it).
