  1. No love for the G29?
  2. What I did not see was any statement about modifications made to the trigger mechanism by user or agency. Is it a different report which stated "multiple pistols could be made to fire without manipulation of the trigger?"
  3. Glad you found a gun that works for you. I am not a fan of open carry or of cross-draw holsters. It's you choice though.

    Sig 226

Great! Am just curious why you are trying to keep the round count down on the P226? That is a workhorse of a firearm.
  5. I've owned one for about 2-3 years. Have no regrets. It is quite rugged and always shoots and cycles. Trigger is "different" but easy to get used to. Good Kydex holsters can be found on Amazon for about $30 or so. I replaced the rear sight with a taller glock metal sight. I don't like how most manufacturers sight to a "combat hold". I much prefer point of aim sights. This Glock sight was not all that hard to install myself My singular complaint is that the Taurus manual warns against carrying with a round in the chamber, except for certain circumstances which they point out. Think that is all legal cya. It seems as safe and possibly safer than any other compact 9 I own.
  6. If it works for you don't apologize for it. Its a good gun.
  7. Personally, I would keep the grips that are on it. They are what most fellas I knew shot with on the K-22's In my experience they are more reflective of what the guns looked like back then. jmo, as always
  8. Something to consider is that you already have a holster and extra mags which word work with a used Shield.
  9. I love red dots, especially the 6moa ones. Good job on that 1911 it looks great. Think its the best adaption of an optic I have seen on a 1911. Well Done! Having said that I love them, no longer carry one for edc. It's not a matter of speed, but for self defense drills and carry I still like a big arse dot on the front sight. For range shooting, yes give me a dot.
  10. Kinda like a Ferrari or Lambo capable though seldom actually used status symbols
  11. I love it....Nice gun and optic
  12. Last word; i find that many of the fat striker firearms are harder to conceal than a 4.25" 1911. My brother in law carried one for a couple of decades in his "agency" days. He was small of frame but knew how conceal it.
  13. I agree with that. Was pointing out that the grip safety is part of the safety system. Not that it prevented all problems. I really dislike that some manufactures are no longer incorporating it.
  14. Just my two cents worth: Never heard of a "free firing pin" Have heard of inertial firing pins on 1911's, and most modern guns. To my understanding these are to prevent contact with the rear of the firing pin by a foreign object setting off the round. Something that could possibly happen on a weapon with an exposed hammer. There is a thing called a grip safety on the actual 1911 design which should keep it from firing unless it is gripped in the hand. A few modern interpretations of the platform unfortunately eliminate that feature. And finally, a 1911 can be made unsafe to carry because untrained persons try to improve the trigger with a file and no brains. Back to the OP's topic. Just find one you like and practice with it. It is a proven platform.
  15. Either one of the Ruger LCP series or S&W Bodyguard would be good choices. Lots of holsters and stuff available for them. HOLSTERS ARE IMPORTANT! Have a LCP II and recently used it for a defensive drill I was trying introducing a friend to. It amazes me how quickly it drew from concealment and put 7 rounds of Hornady HP VERY quickly on a man sized target at 15 yards. What else could you want?* Get one, train with it, and carry it in a secure holster. Am sure Bodyguard would do the same. *Ok, cheaper ammo would be nice!

    Walther PPQ

It is doubtful that I personally would buy either. Just too much competition. More popular brands are easier to get accessories and parts for. Walther's quality on their 22's is not that great in my experience. I briefly had one in recent years and thought the materials used were somewhat sub par. Not looking to start a dispute with those who have Walther's and love 'em. Just saying they would not be my first choice. If you are looking for one check out Bud's Gun Shop.
  17. As it happens; a friend of mine recently got into handgun shooting. He acquired a Rock Island 10mm, I own one myself. His job takes him into the Smoky Mountains and he is concerned about bears. Have taken him to my gun club a few times and he can shoot quite well. Ran through some defense drills with him. Just yesterday he sent a pic of a black bear about 15 yards from him as he approached a house in Gatlinberg. Fortunately, the bear went on about its business without any "convincing." We reflected today how the 38 spl +P and 380 I often carry wouldn't have been much use against a bear. Against people? Would have said yes a few years ago. Not so sure anymore as bullet protective clothing is becoming more popular even with perps. A 10 might not penetrate a vest, but it would probably incapacitate the person long enough to run away. A bear might or might not be stopped, depending on size and shot placement. So here I am 75 years old and feeling like a .357, 10mm or 45 acp are minimum carry calibers. Wow, how times change.
  18. A popular factory mod is the side charging bolt. Personally I like the idea. Other than that guessing you want a stock modification, one piece stock.
  19. Check you owners manual for the proper procedure to tighten lug nuts.
  20. If that is what you want then go for it. While I love the 1911 platform there are a few issues for concealed carry: Size: too big for concealment. The shorter 3" versions seem less reliable (tried a Kimber 1911 45 in 3"). Much more difficult to disassemble as well. Weight, it makes your pants want to sag. Single action with light trigger. I feel safer with a Glock than a 1911 on my belt. If you do get a 1911 try and find a holster with a leather strap which prevents the hammer from falling while in holster. Traditionalists will argue this point, but it is based on my experience. My preferred choice is a 2" snub nose revolver. However, unless you man up to a .357 the power of a .38, even in +P, is marginal nowadays
  21. Sounds like a worthwhile adventure
  22. It may be that 10mm is making more sense for carry. My beloved 38 +p six shot and somewhat beloved Ruger LCP might not have enough penetration. Looks like perps are getting wise and wearing thicker protective clothing, if not out right Kevlar vests. The nine is probably the minimum I would want to bet my life on these days.
  23. Wont know what your handgun of choice is until you try a few. With that said, the Tisas form factor is popular and should work. If you are near a shop which rents guns, try it out first. Try a couple different makes as well
  24. The safety on the M17 is not on the trigger but is mounted on the slide. Sig didn't want to do it but the military required it. It is one of the reasons Glock lost out. Glock refused to put one on.
  25. Yes, mine came with the red dot which went back. My only problem was that they somehow retained my address from over 12 years ago in Sacramento. They sent the repaired red dot there and it was thus lost. They did make it right with an apology and a new red dot. One 1911 went back and came back fine. A p365 went back for a front sight replacement and got it back speedily and properly repaired. Possibly none of that matters to some people. Overall I would give them a B
