  1. Did you make an offer? It drives me nuts when people ask me what my best price is after I've listed what I think is a fair price. The reasonable thing, in my opinion, is to make an offer and negotiate, or not, from there. Just my opinion.
  2. Well, my experience is just anecdotal, but I can tell you that I just sold a rifle within a couple of days of listing it on this forum. On the other hand, I had my choice of several rifles when I was looking to buy something specific (on a much wider market). I think as in any market it amounts to offering up a reasonable price and getting lucky enough to find a buyer or seller who matches up with your offering or desire.
  3. One of the trials I sat on was a murder trial. The murderer was an attorney who had killed his wife. HIS attorney told the jury that they would not present a defense, but that it was the job of the prosecution to prove that the man had killed his wife. They actually did present a defense, but it was based on drug use, primarily. Apparently his attorney was really good, and just before we adjourned to deliberate, a mistrial was declared. I read in the paper that the murderer's second trial was for 2nd degree murder, not the 1st degree that he was originally tried for. And in the end they made a deal in which he pled to manslaughter and he got a slap on the wrist. That whole thing really soured me, as it was plain to me that the man killed his wife deliberately, yet through clever legal manipulation he was able to avoid the just punishment he deserved. In a second case it was clear to me that some of the potential jurors really wanted to be on the jury, enough so that they were not, perhaps, entirely honest in their answers during voir dire process. One of those jurors decided that she didn't want to trust a witness's account because she didn't like his neck tie. Another became quite distraught as she wasn't sure that she wanted to be responsible for sending a man to prison. I found the whole thing disgusting. After that, I did something like Jeb, above, and before selection I make sure to tell the judge that I am a believer in the principle of jury nullification. That's a sure-fire way off a potential jury. Don't misunderstand, juries are very, very important in our system. I hope other thoughtful, objective people will serve faithfully. But my cynicism of the process makes me unsuitable.
  4. I've sat on a couple, and hope never to be called again. The legal system has supplanted the justice system, I'm afraid.
  5. Sold to trndnck pending meet up. Thanks!
  6. Probably not, but I never seem to know about the next thing that I really need. Send me a PM and let me know what you have.
  7. Sold Marlin 1895 G Lever Action in 45-70 Government. The rifle is in excellent condition, and though I didn't keep an account of rounds fired, I am confident that it's fewer than 50. This is the Guide Gun with an 18" barrel. Wood and metal are both unblemished, as it's never been carried in the woods. I really like this rifle and this caliber, but I just bought a Ruger #1 in 45-70 so this one is surplus. I no longer have the box, but I do have the owner's manual. I'm including one box of Black Hills ammo with the rifle. Willing to meet in a public place midway between our locations up to about an hour from Crab Orchard, or pick it up here.
  8. I found one that will work for me. Please take a look at my for-sale listing for the Marlin if you're interested. Thanks! I'm looking to buy a nice Ruger #1 in 45-70. I have a very nice Marlin 1895G Lever gun in 45-70 to trade (plus cash from me) or I can do a cash-only deal. I'd like to be close enough for a face-to-face meeting and I'm willing to drive a couple hours any direction from Crab Orchard. Thanks for looking!
  9. Wow! I can hardly believe these primers haven't sold at that price. If I were in the neighborhood, I'd buy them, even though I have plenty of SP primers. Good luck with your sale!
  10. I'm interested in the 5744..... but you're a long drive from me. Do you ever come north? PM on its way.
  11. I've always wanted to do a cross-country bike trip, but the years passed by without ever doing it. I did a couple of west-coast trips, north to south, and those were fun. I hope you have a great time!
  12. I rode my BMW S1000XR to the Dragon yesterday and made a couple of runs. It was pretty hot on the way home, but what a lot of fun! Comfy AND quick.
  13. Man! For a minute there I thought you were selling special mosquito rounds! JK, good luck with your sale.
  14. I set off on my motorsickle this morning to ride to Cookeville to play some racquetball, as I do most every Monday. I wasn't too far from home when I crested a hill and there stood a big ol' black bear in the road. I stopped 75 feet or so from him. I was on a black bike with a black helmet, and he may have mistaken me for another bear, as he took a few steps in my direction. Let me tell you, guys, a black bear looks a lot different when you're sitting on a motorbike than it does when you're inside your pickup truck. Especially when he seems to have no particular concern about your presence. I've been close to bears in the woods a few times, but I always had a rifle or a bow in-hand. But I tootled my horn and flashed the high beams at him and he decided he wanted no part of me and headed into the woods that border the road. (The Catoosa Wildlife Area) It's amazing how hard they are to see once they're in the woods. I looked hard as I rode past where he left the road, and didn't see a thing.
