  1. Not sure, but it seems to be more prevalent with TN I am learning. Frustrating because for all the good that in Tennessee, well, this isn't good. In my case I hate to blame them because it's due to stupid #### I did when I was young, but it would be nice to clear this up once and for all because I am not a prohibited person. Anyway, as was suggested to me on this forum, perhaps download the application for a C&R 003 FFL and pay the $30, you'll most likely get an answer within a couple weeks at to what is causing this and you can work on clearing it up. There are a few cases of this happening documented here and the folks have been really helpful in my journey to clear it up. In my case I now know the reason and it will be overturned every time I am denied... and since I am from California I'm used to waiting two weeks for every gun anyway! But yeah, still sucks. Hang around, work on it, ask the good people here about it and we'll get through this.
  2. Sorry to hear of your troubles Don, that's really frustrating. I'll bet in your case perhaps a common name, it seems the only other thing that causes this is an arrest and for some reason the case is never disposed of properly in the records dept. Here's an update on mine... I applied for a C&R as suggested here (thank you Dave) and received a letter back from the ATF saying there were a couple issues from 1988 and 1989 that had "no disposition" on record. They listed the date of arrest, the jurisdiction and the charges. I contacted the San Bernardino County Courts in SoCal and got beck a prompt accounting of everything they have on record, nothing disqualifying of course, but also a letter saying they could not help me any any further as they are only required to keep misdemeanor stuff ten years and I would have to contact the CA DOJ for more info and they may have it. I have nothing to hide, it was in another life... but let's be clear, life choices have consequences and this is MY fault. Yes, someone in record keeping dropped the ball, but it was me doing something stupid in the first place that threw out the first pitch and got the game going. The charges were dismissed or plead to a minor misdemeanor, but the fact remains, life choices stick with you. Here I am at age 59 dealing with something stupid I did at age 28. I am going to send everything San Bernardino sent me to the ATF (after making copies and scans of course) and I will also send copies of all that to TICS/TBI just for the hell of it and then contact the CA DOJ this week and see what I can dig up. Stay tuned.
  3. Not necessarily. It makes it well known to the feds that we are in an area that does NOT approve or want gun control. That makes us a hard target instead of an easy one. Look, I came from California, home of MILLIONS of illegal aliens living off the government tit. Totally flaunts fed law and the feds did nothing about it. The times the feds raided tuna factories and almond fields they got the cold shoulder and zero help from the local LEO agencies. The state filed lawsuits against the feds and tied it up in court. Also look at the pot thing. Totally illegal by fed law, but CA (and other states) allow it to flourish and the feds do nothing about it. I'm not saying that local LEO's would physically be able to stop the feds from doing whatever, but the feds don't have the resources to go door to door and prosecute everyone with an AR or an ammo can full of P-mags. If Tennessee refuses to prosecute, then who will?
  4. Welcome from a (shudder) SoCal ex-pat and now Tennessee resident. Make it happen OP, whatever it takes... it's worth it.
  5. Cool thanks, and in turn I'll let you in on a secret. If I was a single issue voter Trump wouldn't be my guy, he isn't any great friend of the 2A enthusiast.
  6. Fresh from California here, you sir are wrong. They will attempt to chisel, hammer, poke, scrape, and eventually demolish your gun rights ASAP.
  7. I was delayed once in CA for a couple days, no explanation but they cleared it pretty quickly. I hear that can happen for all kinds of reasons. Other than that I bought dozens of guns there, other than the ridiculous ten day waiting period it always went smoothly there.
  8. I get it guys, I just feel without them we'll see the erosion of the 2nd even quicker. I have no beefs with anyone that decides to go GOA or any other gun rights org, as long as we are doing something. I'm a GOA member along with a few other, I send them more than I do the NRA these days. We all know about Wayne's suits and travel expenses etc... He's pretty much like the TV preacher asking Jesus for a Lear Jet through your donations. But that doesn't mean the message is necessarily bad right? Let's not forget who it is trying to make him look even worse than he is, we have a true enemy on the left. Yes the "gifts" are repugnant Chicom garbage. I buy USA everything whenever humanly possible.
  9. Were you denied or delayed papa61? Did you send in the appeal then?
  10. Well... to support the NRA. You never did it for the duffel bag in the first place right? Those can be had for $19 on Amazon. I usually accept the "gift" and give it to someone a little tighter on money at the range or send it so someone on a gun forum. I'm wearing my NRA hat right now and after all the years it's probably the only thing I've worn or even used. I just feel we need, depending on our circumstances of course, to throw some dog food to the biggest dog fighting for us. For all their faults, they dwarf any other efforts out there. I don't know if I will ever "upgrade" again, I don't really need to buy a ticket for entry into the next round... had about enough of that. What I've done over the last couple years is buy gift memberships into the NRA for younger folks coming up. It gets the magazine out there and into garages and on coffee tables, and many shooting clubs require NRA membership for their insurance so it can be helpful that way. Most of all it gets word of the anti-gun efforts into the next generation and I pray enough of them hear and carry on. What really chaps me, are the folks that contribute nothing. No time, no money, no anything. It's their right, but many died for it and many more have paid for it to be even to the point of what we have right now. Diluted as it may be, the 2nd still exists I think at least partly thanks to our efforts and the efforts of those before us. You're a life member here and there, you've done way more than most and anything else is just icing.
  11. Yeah no problem. It's like now you're a life member right? So when you pay to upgrade to Endowment life it earns you an upgrade to them begging you to become a Patron life member. When you do upgrade to Patron, then and only then will they anoint you with mailings begging you to pay to become a Benefactor! Finally, you get get to the grand poobah of life memberships... you will be then invited to the Golden Circle of Patriotic Sainthood. I'm not sure if there's and end to it... So to summarize, each time they get you to send another $250-500 they will give you a new title, a new sticker, and a new Chinese duffel bag should you choose to accept it.
  12. Of course I am. I always thought your user name was funny being in the business I am. Are you a heating guy by chance? Especially in the older days of standing pilots the "blue dragon" was a phenomenon that happened because of delayed ignition on raw gas/lpg. Then "poof, no eyebrows!"
  13. I was able to get a 3-man lease on 110 acres in Virginia with stands and cameras in place. My BIL and I, and the caretaker of the land are the only three allowed to hunt there. It's 40 miles from me and Virginny out of state tags will run me about $250. Sign everywhere, plenty of deer on the cameras as well as bear, 'yote, and bobcat. Heated hunting shack on site. Our share was $450 each and that covers property tax, food plot seed, and tractor rental for a few days to plant this spring. I'll be expected (along with my BIL) to spend a few weekends up there fortifying stands and blinds, clearing trails, and planting. I'm excited... really looking forward to fall.
  14. So here's the latest! I found a great deal on Armslist on a Rem 700 I have been looking for for quite some time... Just decided what the hell let's try this again. So my FFL calls last night and tells me the rifle was there and to come on over. I get there and after exchanging pleasantries we get down to the business of the background check, but instead of using the online system he calls it in. He's on the phone for a couple minutes and the subject of my denial and subsequent overturn come up. She asks him (and me) if it had to do with a charge in California many years ago, and we responded "yes, as far as we know." She says "hmmm... hold on a sec" and puts him on hold. Evidently she got a supervisor or something, not sure, but we were on hold for about ten minutes I suppose. When she gets back on the line, she issues an approval number and my rifle is six feet to the right of me as I type. Unfortunately she wouldn't tell me a damn thing as to which charge and which county it might be in. She did say unless the records have been updated I could be denied again, but she didn't tell him if the record had in fact been updated and she did in fact approve the transaction and we really don't know if it would have been approved or denied. Frustrating right? All's well that ends well, and I am sure glad I have an FFL that is willing to take the time to call it in like that, you aren't going to get that kind of service at Bass Pro or Academy that's for sure. I'll proceed with my C&R application, in the meantime maybe I'll just try buying a stripped lower or something somewhere else and see what happens. Stay tuned boys and girls!
  15. Was that an upgrade or a new permit Reefer? I have to say the enhanced permit process and timeline here in TN was downright reasonable. I think it was almost exactly 2 weeks from application to card in hand and the fees weren't horrible. Good class, slightly different (mostly better) laws here. California permit took 13 months with 2 interviews and an 8 hour class with quals. In the end the permit costs about $500 for two years and you an only carry the (3 in my county) the weapons listed on the permit. Renewal was another class with quals and another $300. If you live in the full-on lib counties like LA and SF you will NEVER get a permit so I was thankful. But I think most of us will agree we shouldn't have to beg or be thankful to exercise a right.
  16. I generally just use a CC for convenience and expedience, I really wouldn't have a problem with sending a money order to an established seller... I have a problem with USPS.
  17. I'll only buy with a CC on GunBroker as well, but curiously enough the last two buyers that bought from me both just sent me a USPS money order. I've seen a few of these gun payment services come and go, hopefully this one gets traction. I've tried signing up with GunBroker payments and I keep hitting roadblocks for some reason.
  18. Yeah I was upset no question. I just wonder if by chance something was "fixed" or noted on their end. Wishful thinking I suppose... but the fact two others went through without a hitch I guess I'm hoping it was just an anomaly. I wouldn't be as upset the second time knowing it's going to be overturned again... or am I assuming something that might not be the case?
  19. I'm eyeballing a .223 on Armslist right now Dave, it's in the $500 range so I'm not going to cry if it gets delayed. I think I am going to just try it again and see what happens. My FFL said we'll call it in rather than using the automated online check... he says if they start to deny he'll being this case up and mention they overturned it. Stay tuned.
  20. Luke 2:8-14 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” God bless my TGO friends, and may God bless America.
  21. They never asked me for anything, just overturned it. My domestic arrest never resulted in anything but dropped charges... this is my suspicion as to what triggered the denial but I really don't know.
  22. I have a few... The very best of which is a Winchester 94 in .30-30 made in 1974. Simply because it was my dad's rifle, and it's a very good rifle. Got some post '64 freckles and such, but it's for the most part in awesome shape and IMO the lines of the 94 just make it a beautiful gun. Let me see if I can dredge up some pics here. Here's the '94 This is an 1892 takedown with the octagon barrel dating around 1922 - in .44-40 of course. Here we have what I feel is the best purchase dollar for dollar one could make in the firearms game. A Henry Golden Boy in .22LR Here's one I picked up at the Appalachian Fairgrounds about a month ago. Winchester 9422 Legacy in .22 magnum. Pretty sure it's unfired. And finally we have what I consider to be my Tennessee deer rifle - unsuccessful as of yet. But anyway, a Henry Big Boy in .44 magnum. This is a wonderful gun! But.... the title of the thread, favorite lever gun. My dad's '94 of course.
