  1. You gotta love an entrepreneur.
  2. I missed a very easy shot on a nice 8 pointer this morning. I could have cried. I hope you all had better luck.
  3. Here's why I use a rest when I can. Today I didn't. I thought I could easily make the 40 yard shot on a very nice 8 pointer without a rest. As I felt a little rushed, I decided to throw up and shoot off hand. All I found was a wad of hair. No blood, no deer. I;ll be using a rest from now on. The added excitement of a trophy deer and the anxiety of making the shot before your cover is blown can't be replicated while target shooting.
  4. I'm going with "C". Come and get em!!!!
  5. A lot of the long range shots on deer happen out of someone's mouth sitting around a gun store. I have shot a deer at more than 370 yards, but I don't normally take that kind of chance. Most are well within 100 yards, and still shot using some sort of rest if at all available.
  6. Sir, I have one and love it. I do not like sabots. I shoot Win 209 primers, 2 fifty grain Hodgdon 777 pellets, and a 295 grain power belt bullet. You can shoot them forever and not have to clean the bore. I'm getting 1" 100 yard groups from this combination, and the bullets slide down the bore with just enough resistance to ensure they don't fall out. http://powerbeltbullets.com/ http://www.hodgdon.com/tripleseven-pellets.html http://www.chuckhawks.com/winchester_777_primers.htm
  7. I usually find a convenient tree to fashion a rest from. I also use the front of my climbing treestand as a rest. I never shoot at a deer any further than point blank range without some sort of support.
  8. Don't leave without paying a visit to the Smoky Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville! You don't have to buy anything (you will), just look around. It's really neat.
  9. I used to enjoy the Brass Lantern in Gatlinburg. The Dixie Stampede is also a neat place. Ask a local to give you directions to the bypass there. It really helps to dodge the traffic.
  10. How do you accomplish this?
  11. I've seen coyotes in several different colored coats, but my father killed one today that looks rather unusual. I've seen dark ones, but this thing is black!
  12. I have a Summit Goliath. I would buy it again in a second! The more comfortable you are, the longer you are going to be able to sit still. The longer you sit still, the more deer you see.
  13. Thanks everyone. You have reinforced what I already thought. I'll just shoot my reloads so I'll have empty brass to reload again.
  14. To remove the poopie pipe and the lungs, heart, etc. Without splitting the pelvis, I've had a lot of frustration removing the bowels. Without splitting the ribcage, I have trouble removing the heart, lungs, and other assorted stuff.

    First Shotgun

870 Remington is great. If you can find a used Ithaca 37, you will have the best pump ever built.
  16. I like reloading. Several people I come into regular contact with have asked if I'd relaod ammo for them. I'd like to, but in the litigious society in which we live, the prospect of an accident happening scares me to death. I know guys who do this and haven't had any problems. I fear someone having an accident, my fault or not, and sueing me for everything I've worked hard to accumulate. Do any of you do this, and do you have any suggestions of how to legally proctect myself from frivilous lawsuits if I decide to try my hand at relaoding for the public.
  17. Thank you so much for your input, wd-40. Tandy is where I was planning on going when I decide to stock up on the supplies. Also, thanks for this thread. I've always been interested in leather tanning, and this has been very informative.
  18. Reloading supplies.
  19. RCBS Pow'r Pull Impact Bullet Puller - MidwayUSA This one works fine; just don't overtighten the threaded cap.
  20. I have a question. I am considering trying my hand at holster making. Is there any part of a deer hide heavy enough for this purpose, or am I better off purchasing leather?
  21. I came up with nothing this weekend. Yesterday morning I saw a decent buck loaping across a large hay field. He was at least a quarter mile from me. This morning I ran a deer from my hunting area when walking in. The light wasn't yet bright enough to tell anything about it. Later, a spike walked directly under me. I still enjoyed getting to hunt even though I came up empty handed. Let's see some pictures! I know a lot of you did better than me.
  22. WOW! I wonder if it will make Boone and Crockett once it is officially scored after the drying period.
  23. I just saw a Remington (I believe the model number was 710) bolt action at Wal Mart in Bowling Green Kentucky. It had a synthetic stock and was chambered in 243 Winchester. The price was $357.99. I believe it would satisfy your criteria quite well. You do know that Wal Mart can order a large selection of firearms from a catalog you can find in their sporting goods department.
  24. Sure.....but where's the fun in only one gun? Need is really a subjective thing.
