  1. No, sorry. I've decided to hang onto it as prices continue to climb for Maks of all flavors. In actuality, I had priced it too low, so when the deal fell through I was happy. If you do find one (not the Chinese) in excellent condition for that price better grab it.
  2. The same laws that apply to justifiable self defense would apply here. It just widens the categories that would make such a claim legitimate. Arson is a justifiable self defense claim; so is a claim of justifiable SD when someone is throwing Molotov cocktails into buildings where it's reasonable to expect people to be. Those instances are already covered under existing laws, I liken it to the days in the West when a thief that stole your horse was tried, and if convicted, could be hanged. Why? Stealing someone's horse could be considered tantamount to leaving them stranded thereby committing a grave bodily injury or death offense. Horse thieves knew that stealing horse could result in a capital offense. They had been warned. As always, it would be up to the shooter to be able to meet the criteria of a justified self defense claim. And there's the rub. Few people including gun owners know the criteria.
  3. Why would anyone think it's going to anything but a peaceful, orderly, well-behaved protest just like all the other peaceful, orderly, well-behaved protests of the last 55 years? History is the answer.
  4. At my LGS today. 9mm that was 18 last week is now at 15. .22 that had been 10 now at 7. .45 that had been 35 now at 29. I spoke to the owner and told him he had good prices. He said that in the last week distributors had been dropping their prices on nearly all popular ammo. He said he was marking down everything to move it out, some at close to what he had been paying for the cash flow and would buy at much better prices. So if you're contemplating a big ammo purchase online, it might pay to wait a while and check locally first if possible. Then again, if you're in a big city, you might want to get all you can today at the LGS today.
  5. Useful information to prevent losing your money to scammers. Before your next deal with an unknown source, you might want to check here first. Gun and Ammo Scams
  6. Such a law would come in handy as the riots soon begin. Remember the Roof Koreans in LA in 1992? It's worth while to see how and why civilians can be effective when the police fail miserably and deliberately to stop anarchy. Roof Koreans in 1992
  7. Thomas was a Marxist at one time in his youth. Then he entered the real world and discovered what Marxism really was. He's one of the greats for freedom and a republican (not the Republican Party) small government statesman. He's everything that progressives hate.
  8. With certain provisions, it would be a real crime deterrent to the mass of crimes that are never solved and stop thugs dead in their tracks. Until is passes, no one should however, act on property crimes using deadly force.
  9. Great pistol. At one time it was either a 1911 or BHP in a choice of quality semi-automatics in the US. The BHPs of this eras always had a stylish good looks, beautiful bluing, and striking grips. Someone will be fortunate to give this lovely a new home.
  10. You'd be covered, but would be judged for having bad taste in sodas.
  11. I was talking today with my homeowner's agent about that very thing. My 1 million umbrella policy is up for renewal this Friday that covers SD events as long as the policy holder has 'clean hands." We're were discussing how many times people think they're covered for law suits, but any form of criminal negligence negates that coverage. That's the same for self defense coverage as well. That's as it should be. Keeps policy costs lower and scams to a minimum. If you want to see a great movie about insurance fraud, watch "Double Indemnity" with Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck, and Edgar G. Robinson. It's a film noir classic.
  12. I know of no SD coverage that doesn't have exceptions. Some are more stringent that others or increase the cost for you to be covered in certain cases. Some exceptions are reasonable (not instigating the fight, not prolonging the fight). That's another good reason to be sure of what coverage you're getting before you sign and particularly before you act on false assumptions.
  13. You've got nothing. Just because you've not heard it doesn't make it not so. I'm betting that if you Google the saying you'll discover something new. Then you can read about it. It has to do with flim-flam, scams, slip and falls, and other cons. It's not biased, it's not political - it's a reality. People have always tried scams to get money they don't deserve.
  14. Al can smell money from 5,000 miles away. Passing the Molotov cocktails too. Another violent 'peaceful' demonstration is going to happen.
  15. It's unwritten, but well known to law enforcement and prosecutors. It's been common parlance for at least 25 years.
  16. You'll also hear/see it as non-deadly force. In self defense, non-deadly force and deadly force are the only two options. To keep it simple always read 'force' as non-deadly force. Deadly force is (or should be) written as deadly force. Knowing when one becomes the other is key to an intelligent response.
  17. Here's quick look at Tennessee Self-Defense laws. It is not all, but does hit the salient points you should know and live by to have a legal and justified self-defense event. Tennessee Self Defense Laws At the bottom of that page, you can find out the laws on: Section 39-11-612 (Defense of Third Person) Section 39-11-613 (Protection of Life or Health) Section 39-11-614 (Protection of Property) Section 39-11-615 (Protection of Third Person's Property) It's better to know than to assume.
  18. Some carry programs do not provide coverage for incidents that take place within the home in all issues. For instance, if you have an invited guest that gets drunk and threatens bodily harm and you're forced to shoot him, you're not covered. Your drug-addict son goes wild and attacks your wife and your shoot him, you're not covered. That's the reason to know specifically what you are covered and not covered for when looking at a carry protection program. They are not all the same. These programs are in essence a contract and you and the company are bound by that contract. Read the fine print. That's what matters - not your assumptions or beliefs.
  19. Wondering about your self-defense ammo? Is it the best? What's the difference between being shot out of a 2" barrel .38 special and a 4" .38 special? What's hype and what's not? I recently heard Roy Huntington mention that there's all the hype and then there's science. Roy recommended this site for the science. Brass Fetcher Ballistic Testing The gentleman who runs the site and supervises the controlled tests is a qualified expert witness and has worked with numerous government and private agencies. This is not fluff selling you one brand of ammo over another. This is scientific testing and the results. Frankly, I thought I knew what was best. Turns out I don't. Reading this site has opened my eyes and has changed my mind about many of the ammo cartridges I've been carrying. I let my feelings get in the way of facts but now I know better. There're few things in life more worthwhile than exchanging incorrect thinking for better information. Spend some time on this site. You may have your mind changed as well.
  20. My liability and carry program follows me throughout the United States. It depends on what company you have.
  21. The ceramic knives can't be sharpened as far as I know, least wise not in any knife sharpeners I'm aware of. When you do purchase knives, avoid those that say 'stainless steel'. Go for knives that say 'High-Carbon Steel." Stainless knives aren't easily sharpened and are cheaper to make than carbon steel knives. Victorinox knives are great, inexpensive, and will last a lifetime. Are also easily sharpened. Look for the ones with the Fibrox handles. Victorinox with Fibrox handles They easily outperform knives costing three times the price. Remember, no one ever said, "The dinner was terrific but it would have been so much better if you'd used a $300 fancy imported Damascus steel knife instead of your $30 Victorinox." Let me know what you think of the Accusharp. There are good videos on youtube that will show you how easy it is to use it.
  22. Also look at your homeowner's insurance for civil liability that would cover you for a civil suit for a SD claim. Mine has $300,000 on the HO policy and 1 million coverage as an add on for about $150-175. Plus, that HO policy covers everything that one could typically be sued for in addition to SD. It is important to remember that any claims will only be paid for a SD action where the covered party comes to the incident with 'clean hands.' Some carry insurance policies do not cover you if you are found guilty, plead, or are convicted of an included lesser offence. Then you may be required to pay back all the monies spent on your behalf. Another good reason to know SD law and legal justifications ahead of time. It's too late after the event, but you will be schooled at your peril.
