  1. So, like the AK variant PSL? Does it have front sight post on barrel? I'm betting that is your biggest hangup getting someone to do it. I think on our lathe we need approximately 24" of unobstructed barrel no bigger than around 1"ish to go through the headstock.
  2. For us, that would depend on the length of the barrel from the front of recoil lug to muzzle.
  3. Nice set up. I re-purposed some kitchen cabinets removed from an older home into work benches but mine do not look as good as yours.
  4. Threading is something that can be tricky but can also be done well if well trained. We indicate in off of 2 different points in the bore of the barrel by adjusting front and rear spiders on the lathe. Short barrels (shorter than the head stock length) have to use the Viper jig after indicating that in. All that said to say be careful that anyone says "I can thread that easy" actually knows how to thread and then knows what is important about threading a barrel.
  5. Well, that was an excellent video. Guess we will throw that in to the drill mix. Thanks
  6. Emerson CQC-7 folder in pocket. ESEE 4 fixed These two are workhorses in my humble opinion.
  7. I have always heard the black & decker workmates make a good portable reloading bench. I have never used that setup myself. I would offer that a couple of used cabinet lowers topped with maybe 2x4's and then a layer of plywood work great.
  8. My brother taught me the basics of reloading somewhere around 20 years ago. Since then, my shooting partner and I have tweaked our load development process for our PRS type rifles quite a bit. We can develop a load for those rifles very quickly and get great results (6.5cm & 6cm) and do it "cheaper" than match ammo with better results. I quoted "cheaper" due to components cost being cheaper but the equipment not factored in (presses, dies, annealer, trimmer, chrono, and more). We are currently setting up a dillon SDB (that my brother gifted to me) for 9mm. An early estimate looks like the cost of components at current prices would be $215 for 1k rounds (no brass cost). We also just bought 1k of blazer brass and I think shipped it was right around $260. I am not sure what results we will see but the hope is lower pressure rounds to have fun with at minimum recoil. The cost of reloading is high when you factor tooling and time especially but the reward (as previously mentioned by others) is a customized round to meet a performance level that may not be as easily found with factory rounds. As a side note, we have done some 223 for the AR's but we get results we accept with a couple of different bulk factory varieties but keep our expectations reasonable (500 yards and in with 12" target).
  9. Interesting thread. A few years ago my shooting partner and I decided to buy a mill and lathe. I am not a machinist but my partner is (works as a machinist by trade). We did this so we could do our own "work". I have learned a lot from him and we can do a lot of things. But as mentioned above, "gunsmiths" are few and far between. I send a lot of people to another guy that has probably forgotten more about old revolvers and shotguns than we will ever know.
  10. Tekton has a nice set of gunsmith punches and they have an excellent replacement / warranty program.
  11. New guy here and I have only done this once. What we did was zero the red dot first amd then flipped over the magnifier. The magnifier (and red dot) we were using were both Holosun. The magnifier had adjustment dials. We did adjust the magnifier some to align the center to the zeroed red dot and it did make a difference. Just my experience
  12. New member here and saw this thread but no mention of Mean Gene belts. I have two and have nothing but good things to say about them. No affiliation, just like the belts. https://www.meangeneleather.com/product-category/belts/
