When Shane interceded, Ed just provided him an outlet for the anger he felt at Rick for not valuing Lori and Carl over everything else, including what he felt was right. And Lori's rejection of him for lying to her in an attempt to provide and protect her over what is right. That beating is foreshadowing the violence he wishes upon, and will eventually direct towards Rick.

I can say this about OC spray. If you are really congested to the point where a neti pot or a nose douche won't do anything you can take a paper bag, spray just the littlest squirt of oc into it and wait a moment for the aerosol to die down a bit inside the bag. Then take a small huff of it into the nose. Have paper towels handy cause everything inside those sinus cavities is going to come flooding out in a matter of seconds. Crazy, momentarily unpleasant, but highly effective.
