I purchased a concentrated bottle of permethrin at the local farmer CO-OP and mixed it down to about 5% in a spray bottle. Every year, before spring hunting, I hang my clothes for yard work and hunting in the garage and spray them down (including the mask). I let it air dry for at least a week before wearing. The treatment is usually good for the entire Spring through Fall season. So far this season, I haven’t had 1 tick found on me after being out, and I live in the woods outside of town. Last year, I managed to convince my doctor to prescribe a tube of permethrin cream as a back up. While that seems extreme, it’s actually prescribed orally in Europe. It is also given orally to our pets and sprayed on our farm animals. When I am not hunting for a few days, I also use a tea tree body wash and follow it up with a lotion before bed. Using these steps I’ve had absolutely no issues with mites or even mosquitoes.

As a big user of 16 gauge ammo I feel your pain. I have converted over primarily to loading my own, but when I do buy factory, here are a few places I find occasionally good deals at: rogers sporting goods, online supplier recobs, another good online store Georgia arms, another one I wouldn’t be afraid to check the bulletin board at my gun club or any swaps they organize. I’ve managed to buy 16 gauge wads at the last 2 events at mine. good luck

I went to one a month or so back in Clinton just north a county. My hope being a smaller, less commercialized region. It was a busy as well. Overpriced, little variety, and most everything not new was in poor, to very poor conditions.

Mine seems to be an exact match in 32-20 to yours (although the s&w stamp on yours is larger). Do you happen to have anything related to the serial number available? “According to Smith & Wesson 1857-1945 by Neal and Jinks, heat treating of cylinders began in 1919 at serial number 316,648 of the 38 Hand Ejector M & P Model 1905 Fourth Change. There is another note in the Engineering Changes section that says that May 7, 1919 was when J.H. Wesson ordered that all 32 Winchester Cylinders were to be heat treated.” There does seem to be some debate about guns made from 1919 until 1925. Luckily, mine is from 1923 and has been confirmed to be hardened for smokeless.

Got a couple of M12’s and a riot style 1897 for cowboy shoot’in. I arguably see the M12 and REM M31 (got 2 of them too) as both the top of the pump ‘best ever made’

That’s cool, you might enjoy the story of my own model 1905, 4th change. It was purchased for self protection during the bloody coal mine wars by my great/great grandfather. He was the county judge among other things back in those days. It passed from grandfather to me back about 12 years ago. It’s a .32-20 model, managed to swing a few cowboy ammo boxes for it over the years, but slowly been gearing up to reload the caliber.

We’ve kicked the tires in the local Trout Unlimited group that meets in Norris.

I’m not a huge fan of Mossberg, always found them to rattle too much and usually feel a bit cheap. I’d suggest, if a semiautomatic shotgun in your price range is truly your desire, consider an older Remington 1100. Lots of older, cheap options with aftermarket options.

In the last year we’ve moved from a house primarily of revolvers to semiautos. This seems to have happened for a few reasons: 1 - my father and uncle can no longer handle the pull back motion (arthritis in their hands) 2 - my son and I shoot more and 9 mm & 22lr seem more available and economical 3 - my son’s interest in a future of law enforcement seems to drive him to become more familiar with what he might end up carrying in his profession

My wife and I are starting to learn to fly fish. Any places in W NC or E TN you’d recommend for people starting out? I have no plans taking her to remote places, but something with a decent chance of producing success.
