Just saw the trailer at the theater tonight. I am seriously giddy as hell about seeing the latest & last, Batman movie. As far as Bond goes, I always thought that there would never be a better Bond than Connery, until Daniel Craig. When I first saw the films, before I read the books, Connery's Bond seemed far more enigmatic, charismatic & believable. Since reading the books & figuring out that Bond is basically just a government sanctioned thug in a suit, I think Craig's portrayal is much more accurate than any of the others. On a similar vein, Matt Damon as Jason Bourne was awesome, again, until I read the books. Jason Bourne is originally written as a middle aged guy & The Bourne Identity begins in an underground Casino in Japan! (If memory serves.....)

Worst movie of all time ever, ever? Ghost Dog, Way of the Samurai. Fat, Black, pigeon fancying, boz-eyed Samurai? No thanks. No plot to follow, badly scripted, no dialog to speak of (pun intended), TERRIBLY cast, depressing & pointless waste of celluloid.

Alrighty. You'll need; 6" of backstrap per serving, cleaned & with all the siver skin removed & marinated for 24 hours in; ¼ cup Soy Sauce 1 tsp Tabasco 1 tsp Liquid Smoke ½ red bell pepper ½ yellow bell pepper 3 Portabella mushrooms ¼ cup garden peas ½ stick of celery 2 rashers of bacon ¼ cup toasted pine nuts ½ cup basmati or risotto rice ½ cup Madeira (sweet Sherry or White Port would work) ½ pint GOOD chicken stock Method; Finely dice all the vegetables & bacon & soften in olive oil in a large skillet. Add pinenuts when cooked (If you're nut are un-toasted, dry fry them over a low heat until they begin to darken) Slide a long chef's knife into the center of your backstrap, creating a tube & stuff roughly 1/3 of your veg-mix into the cavity. Place the stuffed meat on a pre-heated grill (250-300º) & baste with marinade. Cook for aproximately 15 minutes & turn. Re-heat the remaining veg & add the rice. Fry the DRY rice until clear (this gets the flavour deep into the rice grains) Begin adding your stock a tiny bit at a time & boil until almost absorbed by the rice. Keep adding your stock in small amounts until the rice is almost cooked. Finish the rice by adding your Madeira (this gives a nice, sweet flavor) Make sure the rice is throughly cooked & all the liquor is absorbed. Your stock quantity will vary depending on the amount of rice you're cooking. Total cooking time should be around 15 minutes. Once cooked, turn off the heat & let sit for 5 minutes & the rice will totally absorb all the liquid, it also gives your venison time to rest before you slice it. Slice the venison into 1" 'rounds' & serve on top of the risotto. It's very well accompanied by a nice, light Red wine (Riocha or Shiraz for preference) Total cooking time is about 20 minutes.

Yup! Stuffed with mixed peppers & pinenuts, served on a bed of chicken & madeira risotto.

I'm not usually one to get all frothy in praise of a corporation but I'm going to have to here. In the recent thread asking for opinions on the Henry .17hmr I mentioned that I'd really like to polish the receiver of my H001 if I could get a matching, metal barrel band. I was told to email Henry and ask & also ask about a replacement front sight. Well, at 10pm last night that's exactly what I did. I just mentioned that I'd like to purchase these items if they were available (they're not on the website) 5 minutes ago I received a phone call from the CEO of Henry Repeating Arms (the "Amurrican Made" guy from the tv comercials) letting me know that the parts are indeed available & that as a valued customer, he'd be more than happy to shop me these items FREE OF CHARGE!!! I'm utterly stunned by this. This level of generosity & customer service simply blows my mind! Henry Repeating Arms, you have a customer for life!

If I could find a steel barrel band, that's exactly what I'd like to do! I could paint the plastic, standard band, but I'd rather get hold of a metal one if I can.

I've not had any dealings with the .17, but I do have a .22 that you'd have to kill me to get hold of. Accuracy is excellent with sub 1" 50yd groups being perfectly normal. My only complaint and it isn't a real complaint, more a small gripe, the paint of the receiver lasted about 5 minutes before it started to chip. I carry my .22 constantly around the farm here & it's accounted for God-only-knows how many possums, rats, skwerls, coons & other potential chicken killers. I shoot open sights & I found that removing the hood over the foresight made this a whole lot nicer. I did have a little 2-7x20 scope on there, but at the ranges I shoot I get more benefit from open sights. I know I can reach it out there & zap pop can sized targets at 100yds if needed, but it takes me a couple of shots to get on target. At 50 yds and under it's an absolute tack-driver. The action is as smooth as oiled glass, although the trigger is a little creepy. However it isn't & isn't designed to be, a precision target rifle. I've never had any kind of failure at all in well over 5000 rounds (probably nearer 10,000 if I really thought about it) It's my go-to plinking, small game, clay-poppin', can-blastin', golfball-rollin', chicken savin' rifle & if & when it breaks or wears out, I'll buy another exactly the same without a second's thought or hesitation.

I managed to hang my tag on another Doe last night. I was sat in my Vertigo stand again (7' ladder stand) when this little lady came walking towards me across the neighbor's field. As soon as she entered the wood I readied myself for the shot. She made a left turn along the fenceline offering me a broadside shot at roughly 45yds. I steadied Thumpy against the rail around my stand & centered the sight on her chest. As the cloud of smoke cleared, I could see a small twig, vibrating like crazy, but no deer. Hmmmm.... I reloaded (just in case) & climbed down from my stand to see what was going on. I figured one of 3 things; I missed & she'd run off, I made a poor a poor shot & I'd have some trailing to do in the dark or I'd made a great shot & she'd dropped on the spot. I got over to the bush & there she was. It turned out that I must've clipped the little branch & the ball deflected. I missed the heart/lung shot I was aiming for but the ball entered her neck, exactly where I'd want to make a neck shot with a centerfire. The ball had severed her spine & she died instantly.

I'm wanting to get my first buck mounted, but unfortunately the taxidermist I have used in the past lost his shop to a fire, earlier this year. Can anyone recommend someone around the area? (preferably south of Murfreesboro)

You could say the same thing for pretty much any rifle. Would you want a double load in any firearm, close to your face or not?

Oh I don't know about that... In .44MAG or .45 Colt it would make an excellent brush-gun for deer or hog hunting. I can understand what you mean about the 28ga though, that seems a little redundant.

No more so than owning a tacticool, pimped out AR. Actually, any AR for that matter.

What scope do you have mounted?

I am DIGGING that little blanket gun in your pic, Rebel! Is that built around a Springfield or an Enfield? I can't tell from the pic...

Ah ha. Did not know that. Which begs the question; So why re-invent the wheel with the 300 BLK when the 7.62x39 is so close? What are the feed issues associated with the x39? AKs seem to do OK?

As an oddly lateral though, how about producing an AR in 7.62x39? I don't know if anyone makes one already, I know less about ARs than I do about Quantum Physics, but it seems like a logical choice to me. A bit more 'hoof' than the 5.56, a bit more friendly than the x51 or x54. More round-weight for long range momentum & higher KE, enough to shoot through obstruction (I guess) & good for the CQB stuff. It has the added advantage of being readily available, cheap & there should be lot's of dead Chi-Comghaniraqui bad guys lying around carrying your reloads. I've had a drink though, so I could be talking out of my bum.

Unfortunately not. The only centerfires allowed are BPCR rifles (Sharps, High Walls, Springfields, Whelans etc...) Sorry! The guy that owns the land has put out that restriction. Most club memners would love to shoot our 'modern' rifles there too It's a stupid rule, to be honest. No-one would bat an eyelid if I turned up with a .45-120, but even a small caliber 'modern' gun is a no-no.

He he! If I'd have smiled much more, I think the top of my head would've fell off!
