  1. I shot a glock .40 of a friend of mines once. But I couldn't honestly say I would have been able to do any better with it. The trigger pull would take some getting used to (for me). Love the .357 sig ... just wish it was cheaper. Maybe we need a .357 sig SHORT! LOL!
  2. Correct... they are allowed in some schools and aren't against the law. (Unlike the Gas gernades. Which is why he was arrested.) But wearing the vest (IMHO) deserves more than just a glance, more questions would be warrented it would seem. I'm all for peoples rights and all... but I don't see where asking a kid a straight out (reasonable) question is violating his rights. But i do think giving a cocky smart remark like "I have my reasons." only cause more problems.
  3. When asked about the vest he would only say "I have my reasons." That isn't good enough for me. Some would say if your not breaking the law you shouldn't have to give a reason... but common sense should come into play at some point. He's not wearing it in his house, he's walking the halls. Talking to Police on how to "defeat" body armor doesn't sound real bright to me either. I'm all for individual rights and all... but being a parent, I think they did the right thing. I would want the kid looked into. If you flip this, and you were the cop at the school... and you see a kid that has a armor vest on, would you not want to ask him a couple of questions? If you found a "Clear out gernade" in his car wouldn't you want to investigate him further? Or would you want to be the one that let it slide? At 18... you gather that much ammo, buy a couple of AKs, "Clear Out Gernades", and Body Armor... don't clamplain when you get stopped and asked a lot of questions and possibly detained. It's like having your tounge, lip, and eyebrow pierced... don't act offended when me and my kids stare, you knew how society viewed it when you got it done so don't expect special treatment or the bulk of society to all of a sudden change how they view it.
  4. For my HK Compact, I think I can only get a .40 cal Barrel. (I could be wrong though.) I know it is all my inexperience and that I just need to shoot more... but I have a hard time with good double taps. I kind of hope that .40 cal would make it a bit easier on the follow up shot. Been bouncing the idea around more and more lately. (But I really can't do anything money wise till after Christmas it seems. )
  5. Thanks for the link "Molonlabetn". Winchester is a bit of a drive for me. But I do drive by there once or twice a year. I'll have to stop by there and take a look around at his shop. I have been toying with the the idea of getting a 40 cal barrel to drop in to help out a little on the ammo costs of playing.
  6. If I can ever get out to one of the shoots you can give mine a whirl and see if you like it.
  7. Didn't see the price, but I saw the box. Had to lean over the counter a bit to see it. Didn't see anyone around. They have that island of a circle of counters and the ammo was on both sides. I missed it at first but as I circled around I spotted the box. I also went by "The Sportsman Store" on the way out of Dickson. They didn't have any large packs, but did have some white boxes witha generic "Civilian marksman" type logo on it. 20 rd. boxes for about 6 bucks. No real .357 sig plinking rounds though. What has spurred this is our congregation is having a shoot in a couple of weeks. One of our members (a police chief) hosts it and we set up a skeet area and have two places for pistols. (Targets, and pins.) I act as one of the range safety guys, so I end up not shooting much until most people leave. (We have a lot of people that don't shoot very often, or not at all.) After everyone leaves I can break out my AR and play a bit, so I don't need a bunch of ammo for it (right now anyway) so I may only grab a couple of 20 rd boxes of .223 and the rest all .357 sig. I desperately need to start reloading .223 again. My kids are older now, and I am starting to get a little more time that I can invest in reloading again.
  8. WOW! That sucker is SHARP!!! Yeah, molonlabetn... I have one on mine and I love it. Feels more natural, and quicker.
  9. (Hey Mods, feel free to move this. Thought about putting it in "Off Topic" but it is kinda' gun related... so you decide.) For the past few years my kids have been going as Snipers for Halloween. Needless to say reactions are mixed. Some love it others are ready to call child protective services. Any hoo... Thought I would post some picts of them. Ben in his first Ghillie... Bryan as the "White Spy" from Spy vs. Spy, and Ben in his Ghillie.... Last year when we made a new one, we took the left overs and made "Ghillie Bears". Ben has since given an oral report for school on how to make a Ghillie Suit for hunting. This year Bryan went as a sniper again, and Ben wanted to go as Darth Maul from Star Wars but also wanted to be a sniper as well... So he decide to go as "Sniper Maul"! If anyone wants to make a suit for their kids I have a rough outline of How I did it and what I used on my site... http://suspiciousmindscomic.com/the-kids-ghillie-suits/ (Agiain... sorry if this is in the wrong place.)
  10. Yikes!
  11. Yup! Went by there Saturday myself. They had a lot more ammo options than the Franklin Wal-Mart. (Should have known that, huh!)
  12. I don't show mine for ID. I did accidently pull it out by mistake once when I had just changed wallets and was at a bank with my kids. I was distracted and just happen to grab the wrong one. (That was back when they were both horizontal.) Most people I know, don't know I have a permit. Only if I am asked, or it is brought up in conversation do I even mention it.
  13. Mine is a Marlin 1894 in .38/.357 My dad bought it for me when I was 16. The reason was when he was a kid, an uncle that they hunted with had a lever action in something like 32-20. He loved that thing. Said it just handled great and he always wanted one. So when a friend called him up one day and said a guy ordered a rifle and then didn't want it, asked him if he knew of anyone who would. One of the best Christmas' ever. I think Dad swas smiling more than me! Great memories with it. Love to shoot it. Put a williams peep site on it years and years ago.
  14. I'll try the super wal-mart in Dickson. I have to travel down there this weekend, or next. Come to think of it... they "should" have it there. More rual, and I am guessing more shooters. The lady at Wal-mart knows me as the .357 sig guy. LOL!!! I think I'm the only one buying it there. ;P
  15. Thanks mugster! The wal-mart here in Franklin didn't have any of the value packs. Just some 20 rd. remingtons. I'll ask the lady behind the counter about it. maybe they are just out.
  16. I bought some Norinco ammo ages ago, and mine didn't like it too well. After about 100 rds it started hanging up. Did a quick clean and went right back to shooting. But i was amazed at how dirty the thing was. Up untill that point I was shooting mainly my own reloads and commerical stuff. Never thought about giving the mags a once over while cleaning though.
  17. Sounds like I need to buy a box and run a test mag through it.
  18. Good to hear you didn't have any problems. The price is real tempting. Hate to hear that's dirty, but I guess you get what you pay for.
  19. Academy Sports is carring some ammo called "Monarch". I'm unfamilar with it. Pretty cheap prices, and they had it for a little of eveything... rifles and pistols. Has anyone has ever used any of it? Is it any good? I'm thinking of getting some .223 FMJ to run through my AR. Just wondering if anyone had any problems with this stuff. The .223 stuff was pretty cheap... about 5 bucks for a box of 20.
  20. I was at Guns and Leather a couple of weeks ago and they had about 10-15 I think. A mix of makers and styles. The trip to see 30-35 would be tempting just to gawk at 'em.
  21. I second that...
  22. Here's mine... Oly Lower, standard A1 upper, 16" barrel, CAR stock, Ergo grip, generic sling, blah, blah, blah... She's around 12 years or so old... been banged around a bit, not babyed by any means, but not abused either. Dennis's (Guns and leather) brother built it for me a long time ago. This is what I would like to update and SBR. So far I'm leaning toward LMT 10.5" flatop upper (per Franks suggestion).
  23. Gotta get the wife a Sig 239 in 9mm... first before anything else. Me? I'd love to get a used PSP before they are gone. As well as a Kimber CDP (4"), and a USP Compact in .45 with a threaded barrel for a suppressor later. But low on funds right now, and it will be after the first of the year before I can do anything. For her or me.
  24. I don't think any manufactor would want the liability of using less QC in production. If anything, like wal-mart does with all vendors, they have a set price point they want to sell at and if Winchester can meet it they will buy "X" number of boxes per year. That would make more sense to me. Winchester would have a set sells figure they could count on. What things they did to offset those costs could be anything. Buying raw components in a larger bulk, maybe transfering production to a plant that has less labor costs, etc. Who knows what they are doing to shave costs. Now that I think of it, the only problem I have seen (around me) was a friend shooting that Yellow box bulk ammo (UMC?). I think it's remington. His smitty wouldn't cycle that stuff for crap. Kept jam'n left and right. Tried different ammo... and no porblems. I mainly shoot "White Box", Sellier Bellot, and carry Speer gold dots.
  25. That was cold man... stone cold.
